  • i think it was fucking funny as

  • this was funny, what's not funny about it?

  • The disappointing thing about this Media Watch episode is the fact that, in presenting their view, they use the same sort of sensationalist, straw man bullshit that they were founded to counter. For example, the comment they cited in favour of their point was well worded, while the comment against was not. In addition, the host's condescension is grating. I don't know where to stand on the issue, but to be honest, I'm likely to side against Media Watch on this one for these reasons.

  • It's making a point that there are bigger issues in the world. Now stop whingeing and go away.

  • @jimztar The reason he was bagging his boss was all about politics. The presenter was far left wing labor party fanatical and the boss was a high ranking liberal party official. Because the election was approaching both parties were trying to discredit the other however they could. So the presenter exploited a gap in the armor that was given to him and he struck.

  • hahaha i found that hilarious

  • I understand the satire, but I admire Jonathan Holmes for having the courage to criticise his own boss on TV.

Still, there's nothing funny about people living in poverty. Maybe if the proceeds from the Logies were going to feed the poor, it wouldn't have come across as so insensitive. But if you think somebody needs to "get a life" because they refuse to laugh at something that causes more deaths in four years than the death toll of the holocaust, you need to get some perspective.

  • Shame on you for not getting the fucking joke....dumbass

  • Did people forget that Chris is a satirist? The sole purpose may have been more than just to get votes, it may have been to get people to do something about the food crisis. That's what they do! Sure, this may not be the case but still, it was obviously a joke!

  • jesus christ people are stupid, i mean it was fucking clearly a joke

  • get a sense of humour, cunt features

  • i hate this smug prick

  • eh... Another person who doesn't understand what the chaser do, or how they use comedy to convey social commentary. Please go back to watching today tonight if you aren't bright enough to understand it and istead of thinking would rather listen to bullshit

  • you've got to give it to the abc. they're the ONLY network imaginable who would give their employees some funding and say "go attack everyone including us". it's pretty admirable

  • Jees people, you are way to serious if you find this offensive. All it is trying to do is paint the plight of the actors without logies as being of the same seriousness as those starving to death, its ridiculous hence why it is humorous.

  • The part that I most disagree with is that I don't think Jonathon Holmes is a hypocrite. Hypocracy is saying one thing and doing another. Yes, he made some weak jokes himself but what he said can't be compared to jokes which show a callous disregard for world hunger.

  • No shame to abc, after all, they were big enough to admit it was wrong on this program and besides, it isn't going to actually cause damage to any charities, in fact, they might even get a few sympathy dollars from this. Who cares about your emotions when you are obviously not a victim. Offence is taken, not given and you chose to take this offensively.

  • Why not critisise Sacha Baron Cohen for poking fun at how easily children from third world countries can be "Adopted"? Or how all gay people are promiscuous? Or what about just about anything seen in South Park? Pull the fuck up and see this ad for what it is, an intentional dig at a major issue whilest seeming to be making light of it and in turn, provoking thought around it. It will be a sad day for humour when the PC totalitarianists seize control.

  • I love media watch and think its a vitally important part of the media, but I think they should stay out of comedy. I think the ad is hilarious and I think plenty of people would agree with me. It's not the job of media watch to decide what's funny and what's not.

  • Have a fucking cry. If you want everyone to be super politically correct, go move to America.

  • so it worked right ? lots of people saw it and talked about it ?

    complained on youtube about it.

    this is how tv works.

  • The ad is a criticism of abc for advertising such a mundane cause when there really are problems, like poverty, in the world.

  • Jesus fuck, you have zero sense of humor. How pathetic.

  • SHAME SHAME SHAME lololol trolololol.

  • What do you expect if you hire Chris Taylor a satirical writer to write adds?! I saw the funny side of what Chris Taylor was trying to say was there are more important things going on in the world than ABC shows winning Logies! Even when you explain it to people they still don't get it! Does this mean these people that don't get it are sad sacks or just plain thick?

  • @Fridgemusa Just plain thick. You'll lead a happier life believing that everyone around you is stupid until proven otherwise.

  • shame on you sentient sight

  • if anything they are just dissing the logies

  • @tjwhalan LOL yehh this ad duz satirise the logies.

it's all about how pathetic the logies are,, and yet it's all anyone cares about on commercial channels.

meant to draw attention to how "frivolous" and "bogus" the logies are XD

  • the chasers arent dissing homeless, they are just stating the facts. SO FUNNY

  • Most people who complain about satirical comedy lack the intellectual capacity required to understand the context in which the jokes were written.

And this annoys those of us who enjoy satire. Use your fingers to complain, change the channel, stop reading, let those of us who enjoy something enjoy it without having to be attacked for it.

  • A lot of the Chasers' jokes are misunderstood. Chris wasn't belittling poverty; that's not what this joke was about. He was highlighting the logies' insignificance. The source of the humour, and its target, is the logies.

If people understood the joke's true target, they'd realise they are arguing about the wrong issue. It isn't whether poverty is funny - it isn't. The real question is this: is poverty so off limits that it can never be used to comment on anything other than poverty itself?

  • Oh jesus, people get on their high horse so quickly. Meanwhile, how many of them do ANYTHING to help the homeless and hungry? Their position as morally superior which they gain by calling the ad offensive is undeserved.

  • Johnothan Holmes is the only person that can make Media Watch enjoyable to watch.

  • Can the moral positions get any higher around here?

  • I found it to be a funny way of commenting on how meaningless the Logies really are compared to things like that. Which in turn was a funny way of promoting the actual Logies.

  • what a douche

  • middle australia doesn't handle irony well.

  • are people not happy unless they're unhappy about something? geez!

  • If you're so upset about it then why not go help some of these people that are starving instead of whinging?

  • Chris Tailors actions here where funny, i think its quite strange how media watch staff can't take a joke then turn around and present a minority view. nearly everyone thought it was funny, so get over it media watch.

  • The ads weren't exactly side-splitting, but I don't see anything offensive in them either. You would be uptight if you did.

  • I never suspect Jonathan Holmes was such a dunce. I love how he uses the media watch office as the barometer for comedy. And since when is media watch just a rant on his dated sense of humour?

  • Funny ad. Anyone under 50 would agree.

  • I'm under 50, I obviously do not agree, hence why I uploaded this video.

  • Well you are quite exceptional then, aren't you?

  • Thanks for the compliment. Not everyday I get called exceptional. Or were you being condescending?

    Have a nice day :-)

  • I'm not trying to be anything. But I could only assume that the most of the people who complained to the ABC were old.

  • my friend, u really need to lighten up

  • @Nahasapasa

I'm 32, been a fan of the chaser's since CNNNN, seen them live etc. and frankly I'm probably alot cooler than you.

I don't find it funny. Not particularly worth hauling anyone over the coals for, but definitely not funny.

Every now and then the Chaser boys cross the line, this is one of those times. When you have to produce jaded/shock comedy on a regular basis, it's probably bound to happen. Props to Sentient Sight for uploading.

  • @jivebungy1st thanks for reminding me of this funny clip from 2 years ago.

  • Chris Taylor is a great guy! I am in love with him- and support him 100%

  • so am i =]

  • Please, Chris is AWESOME, i have a crush on him and you're blaming him you old bastard!

  • Dude, the idea of it is taking the piss out of Logies Advertisements, not taking the piss out of poverty stricken countries. Far out some people are soft.

  • I agree with the comment mad at 5:00. Seriously, world hunger is a problem but really, harden up! Lay off Chris Taylor!

  • Its not that funny yes, I get it, but common, no need to make a big deal about it.

  • Maybe not, but I had just finished editing my video Food Crisis in Haiti, 5 minutes before watching this episode of Media Watch. I was as you could imagine, unimpressed.

  • yeah, but usually the chasers have a higher standard.. usually :P

  • @SentientSight

Your such a bitter person. And just what the hell have you done to help the 854 million starving people that you feel it's your place to be offended? Your sick dude. Point is, 50% of Australia doesn't care about hungry black people, and think the logies shape the future.
