@macheads202 I don't see it's a screamer or some comments saying "that wasn't scary!" or OMG! You scared me!" I can also see that this video has alot of likes. If it was a screamer, there would be alot of dislikes.
K I'm so confused I just got Xcode 4 and it's a lot different than this there's no resources or builder and all that stuff. Maybe I just don't know how to get there but can you respond please and explain
My birthday's coming up on tuesday and i've decided to buy myself the iPhone! (lol) but my some of my friends say to get an iPod and the others say to get an iphone. Which 1 shud i get?! sum1 plzz reply
When I try to perform the steps with the new SDK (4.1) - I get a different screen in the "Main View Identity" (the step where you define the button under "actions" and the text fields under the "class outlets").
Can you tell me, by any chance, how I should continue with this when using SDK 4.1?
@iritgk : I think I had the same issue as you. I found it under Library -> Classes. Select your View. Look to the bottom of the tab and you the combo to change the actions and outlets
@RangeGunner I tried what you suggested, but after doing that - I couldn't see the definitions in the 'Main View Connections' so I couldn't actually link them to the graphical objects themselves...
@syco1986 C++ is the most useful language to learn in my opinion. People will lead to towards C which is also good however OO programming is more important today. That said, learning the basics of C is quite important. If you can have a fair handle on C++ any OO language will be easy and quick to learn. So in direct answer to your question, Yes.
Is there a way to create this application with a new window on the same page. Say for example, you wanted this specific application running in one view and directly below it a new view with a text field in for example?
Awesome tutorial I believe but you tend to mumble in a low voice and speak rather quickly, which to a southern American is a tad difficult to understand and frustrating.

Great introduction Chris, thanks. It looks a lot more intuitive than I was expecting, so I'll definitely be looking into the interface builder soon - also will be sure to watch the rest of yer vids. Thanks for the help!
audio is near-mute. down-sampling and other compression on video makes the text illegible and near impossible to follow. all in all, this tutorial is pretty much worthless.
ok im up to the stage of writing the the super class and when i type in uiview it says "error: cannot find interface declaration for 'uiview, superclass of mainview' "
I have never written a program or used code for anything in my life. I've done websites with iWeb but thats all drag and drop. Is it possible to create an iPhone app without actually writing the code for it? Where do I get started (besides here) to learn the amazing iPhone SDK
Thank you very much for this video. I do not have a mac so I cannot test this out. I want to get one though so that I could start devopling applications for the iphone. Is it very hard to start developing programs that look nice i.e. games? I have coded in python and c++, Flash actionscript, etc. Is objective-C a lot harder?
You see, i downloaded this directly from the Dev team site (apple) and it took a while. After the download and installation, i tried to follow these steps but i couldnt find all the stuff like project things ect. so did you have to pay to make the iPhone app?
You can begin development at no cost however you will need to pay once you want to start testing on your device. The simulator included is good however you will not be able to utilize some features.
Nice work, this was very helpful. For those of you (including myself) having a hard time seeing exactly what is going on on the screen - go over to Christo's blog where he has much better quality videos. Thanks again.
Christo, Thank you for putting this together. I am new to mac and iphone development and this tutorial has not only help me understand the Interface builder tool but also the underlying concepts of building applications on iphone / mac.
The program is free for anyone with a Mac. Unlike some companies, Apple don't charge you for the privilege of developing for their platform.
Thanks for the tutorial, pretty basic but easy to follow. Would be good if it was zoomed in a bit so we could read text, and it could be louder, but still informative.
Nice Tutorial, I can actually see what's going on as opposed to some other iPhone offerings. As a new developer on iPhone it helped me figure out a few missing pieces in the IB. Thanks
