I worked in retail for two years. I dyed my hair every color you could think of,but the minute I ware my nose ring,I was asked to remove it. Could'nt figure that out.
i let the doctor remove my keloid on the right shoulder, and now it is still bleeding and in few days he want to pull the strings ..... ohh my gosh, it doenst look better than before
so i say that you should let your keloid as it is.. either way you make it more worser than it is
To each is own, I say. I always kept 3 or 4 piercings in the ears. When I starting more professional jobs over the years, I had to be mindful of the holes past the first set. Piercing anywhere else seemed like it would hurt. :D I also had family that experienced keloids so that was it for me. I still work in corporate and keep the earrings in 3 sets of holes (Studs in 2 of them.).
My biggest question(s) here is were you still living with your parents at 18? If so, how did they react? I find that I feel the same way about getting my nose pierced now, as you did then. I'm 19, a college student, & living w/ my folks still, but I feel that I should be able to make this decision whenever.
I got my nose ring at the age of 16 lol and I got it done by hand. I don't wear it job interviews...I try and get the job first lmao. Getting a nose ring so old school doe....I wear a stud I always have...now I want a lip piercing but not a barbell, a ring on the side...but I will wait for that lmao!
@ThatSoJamie You know in MOST sports piercings arent advised. I would definitely ask your current coach. Also after an initial piercing there is a lot of maintainence and care to avoid infection . I would call the piecing parlor and take to a professional about their experience piercing athletes and then your couch . Im sure it would be an issue but the initial after care might be difficult because of your active lifestyle. Anyhoo good luck in getting that full scholarship, thats awesome :O)
i feel the same way gurl. it was like having my ears pierced, u know. it enhances my look and style. i was always insecure about my large african -american nose as a child so i feel that my piercing draws more attention to it and shows my confidence that i have now gained wit hage and wisdom. Great vid . let the haters hate its their only 9 to 5... ;)
This is my absolute favorite video of all time!!! I really enjoy seeing your confidence in who you are as a creative being and knowing your place.. you are such a wonderful insight into a much deeper, wiser understanding of things in life, AE. I really love this.
Hey girl:) ? since you mentioned locs. While I was doing my clinical at a hospital (I'm a nursing student), someone there brought up how ppl tend to descriminate against folks with locs? I've had my locs going on three yrs now and never experienced that kind of treatment. I'm also thinking about piercing my nose, but not sure if its appropriate for a nurse to do. Did u feel like you were discrim. against bcuz of ur locs (if u had it) and why?
I've had my nose ring for about 2 years, and I like it! I understand what you're saying about the ring being so small that the skin grows around and it's hard to get the ball out. I like small studs so I have to take my nose out and put it back at least once a week to make sure it doesn't get stuck bc like you said, it's painful if I don't! I graduate in May, and hope I can find a job that is accepting of it! I really don't want to take it out...or my clear tongue ring retainer. :(
Ive had my nose pierced for a year & ill b 18 in a month! I like it,.. it hurts though thts the only thing.. it still hurts at times.. if it gets snagged or something. i dont think it should be something tht keeps u from getting a job if it is small like mine.
i plan on getting my nose pierced too when i turn 18 cant wait! my question is do you have any idea how to keep it from having that dark circle i see ppl w/ (black woman) idk if its jus happens tho. bcuz my ear holes have that also im wondering if thats just how my body reacts to them..
I work in a medical office & have a nose ring. I have a very small gold beamoon that most people can't even see it unless they are looking for it. In 4 years I have not been addressed about it & do my job well, so i guess it's not an issue (thus far). LOL Thanks so much for addressing this.
i also have my nose pierced, for about 5 years now, and love it. in the beginning i did begin to get like a keloid/pimple on it (i picked and peeled it off lol--but it wasnt large, think it was moreso a pimple). i was not about to have it messing up my cuteness..but i do have a keloid on my cartlidge on my ear (really small)....but good video
I have a whole heap of piercings! lol only my nose piercing and lip are really visible. I have small studs in both. I work in a laboratory soooo, people don't care. All the supervisors on my shift have nose piercings and they are like 20 years older than I lol
@MsGorgeousGeek OH, It's not necessarily a "jamaican thing" but u may or may not know that Jamaicans like to join their words together....."wholeap"..then you put the "lol" afterwards so...IDK...I guess it brought back memories for me.
@ AFRICANEXPORT...i am absolutely considering it because like you said it becomes apart of you..the only reason why i took it out is because i kept losing the rings when i'd wash my face
My Bible says in Genesis 24:22 about a nose ring he offered to a woman but Jesus came not to change the law but to renew it. A piercing isn't a cut of markings for the dead as stated in Leviticus 19:28. No matter what we all have a past God can heal and change every and anyone. Many African cultures require nose piercing and Indians also. God is good. Be blessed! AfricanExport you are amazing to me. I love your channel and your style.
I love the nose rings. As far as the Christian thing is concerned...I am one and I find it funny when Christians are dismissing piercings in the nose, lip or somewhere like that and pointing to the bible. I see thousands of sistaz in the church with pierced ears. So .....hmmmmm
pure or mildly diluted TEA TREE OIL will make a newly forming keloid drastically. It has worked for me numerous times (on my nose and belly button piercings) ;)
Sigh.... I miss my nose ring. I also got mine at 18. I LOVED it!! I got the earring knocked out and it closed. I never got it back. I've moved on. I since became a Christian. As far as the Biblical aspect, there is no direct law stated that Christians can't pierce, but one principle we want to apply is 2 Cor 6:3,4 which states that we wouldn't want to stumble others. Especially if where you live, it isn't accepted. That for you is a matter of personal choice & far be it from me to judge you.
lmbo.."MA LOOK WHAT I GOT!" that is exactly what i did when i first got my nose pierced. i was 15 and am now 19. let me tell you my mother was furious but then she started to think it was cute because she has one and she also has lock. so my lil sis has locks so she felt we both had a part of her. i no longer have it and she wants me 2 get it again... lolz
Yeah my mom has keloid skin. She pierced her eyebrow and her nose back then. She repierces on occassion I think....very random when I see her wearing it lol.
I do have my ears pierced...I have never thought about getting a nose piercing....I do have a large keloid on my skin due to surgery and it is not cute.

how ironic that you are wearing cross earings while wearing a piercing because in the bible, it says that piercing is like disgraceful or something like that, and you have crosses in your ear piercing. so, I guess it's like triple irony. lol
"In the Bible, Genesis 25 has a passage about a "golden earring" that is given as a present to Rebekah, the future wife of Isaac. The original Hebrew word used in the Bible was Shanf, which is translated as "nose-ring."
"We will see in Genesis 37:25 where the Ishmaelites are called Midianites, for they were so mixed that the only way to distinguishing between them was through their nose rings."
@fashionbug9880 WOW REALLY! I REALLY DONT KNOW MUCH SCRIPTURE BY HEART, BUT I KNOW THAT CHRISTIANS TRY TO HARD TO DO THE WORK OF THE LORD AS FAR AS HOW THEY APPROACH OTHERS AND SHARE THE "WORD OF GOD" , SO I WOULD BE MINDFUL OF THAT. @AFRICANEXPORT I think a lot of time people want to quote the Bible, but if you don't read it, how in the world can you quote it without sounding like a fool? Those type of judgmental attitudes do turn people off to God because no one wants to feel like they're being judged. I'm a Christian, grew up in church and my dad is a minister, but I know I'm not going to hell because my nose is pierced and I have two tattoos. Some people need to do their research before running off at the mouth:)
@fashionbug9880 You're right that the bible does not condone piercings. However, African Export is correct. Your comment has actually done the opposite, which is push people away from being a Christian. The Lord reveals all things in due time. In the meantime, lets share the love and peace of Christ.
Phillipians 4:7 - "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
the face you made about retail jobs sums up everything that I have ever felt as a 22 year that has worked a plethora of retail for 2 years and has left. I found it hard being an educated sister and being spoken to as if I had no sense. Was not for me. Thanks for sharing.
Girl, Love ya. I finally got my nose ring as an adult, but unfortunately I wasn't clear on how to care for it as it healed. Eventually, I let it close and was blessed to not get any Keloids. So I was going to wait as you mentioned to secure a job before I got it re-pierced.
I am new to your channel, and don't really leave comments, but I just wanted to say that I admire you for keeping it real and being honest because I have not seen a lot of people do this. Thanks and be blessed :)
I miss my nose piercing. I'm one of those people who had to take it out for my corporate job. I still wonder if i could get away with it, though. I have a couple piercings now but they're a lot easier to hide than the nose piercing was.
@CurlyCrazyfulLeah how long did it take for the pain to go away? Was it more uncomfortable or painful? I'm gonna get mine done tomorrow and i'd like to know =)
@uhohitsMiKEY You'll be fine. It hurt for maybe a couple seconds and then it was just kinda sore to the touch for a few days. It's really not that bad. :)
hmm. I have gauges and have not had problems. Although I have to say, they are not as accepted as other types of piercings. But hey, it's not for eveyrone, but it was for me.
@gramz33 Yes i have the hair information at the ending credits of the video. I've started doing that and hopefully it helps some. Its the Enstyle half wig in Faith.
You are on point about the keloids. My sons both got piercing in their ears and had to have their keloids surgically removed. they got huge. I warned them, but they didn't listen once they turned 18. lol I wanted my belly pieced but changed my mind because of the keloids. Good info AE!
I love piercings and your nose ring is very pretty! I have a few piercings myself and I must say that I know for a fact that I will NEVER take them out!!!
@JAZZIIBOO I feel the same way. Girl I feel that people shouldn't be discriminated against because of them// They are truly an expression and extension of your personality.
I love my nose piercing Ive had it since I was 16 (12yrs) and I have no plans of removing it. I haven't had too much trouble with employment because I wear the really small studs. I'm sure I will have trouble with my lip ring.
@BlackWomanScholar yes, my grandmother had them so I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 12 or 13. MY mother didn't want to chance me having the skin of my grandmother.!!! So it was my chose and mom warned me.. I was lucky.
@AFRICANEXPORT This is the same thing. But I have a feeling that I wont get keloids. But my mom doesn't want me to pierce my ears or anything. I'm almost 18 so...idk if I wanna take the chance of getting my ears pierced. My mom and grandma got keloids after they had shots and stuff. I've never gotten any keloid from a shot or any injuries. I have two sort of raised scars, but they are small and confined within the boundaries of the injuries. Do you think I could have a chance of getting keloids?
i love piercings. i have a madonna and tragus and i just took out the dermal in my wrist. i really want my nose done but i know it wont look right with my madonna. it looks so good on you!!
Im 18 and in college and im strongly considering getting a nose ring (a hoop) and im still researching the ins and outs on it i was wondering when you were talking about keloids did you mean on your nose if someone was going to get it pierced???
Im 18 and in college and im strongly considering getting a nose ring (a hoop) and im still researching the ins and outs on it i was wondering when you were talking about keloids did you mean on your nose if someone was going to get it pierced???
Love my nose ring(4yrs) and yours too. I wear a real small stud at work.. and i work in the mental health field. when im not at work i wear my hoop..its me..its who i am..love my nose ring and my afro..keeping it real
I had a nose ring did, it took a lot of guts to get it. I worked for a fast food place at the time and they disagreed with it. I had to take out ring. I had just got it did about 3 to 4 days before getting this employment. After I couldn't keep it. I went to putting a straw in my nose, that didn't work out either. I let it close.
@porkchop745 yes your right!im sure in a corporate environment they would consider that a cultural thing and to avoid discrimination issues wouldn't find it an issue, I don't think they would view it the same way with with an African American... Just my thoughts lol
Oh, I wore a very small stud the whole time. I would alternate with pretty colored stones but kept losing them so I just went back to my original stud. LOL! I couldn't believe I never lost that thing after 6 years.
Most people didn't notice that my nose was pierced unless they stared at my nose or I mentioned it. Man, talking about it makes me want to get it redone!!!
You make me miss my nose ring. I had gotten mine pierced at 18 as well. My momma took me and paid for it... and then she got another piercing herself. LOL. Anyway, I wore my nose ring up until March of last year. I got a job at a bank and it's against dress code. For a while, I would take it out right before work and put it in right after. But I just got tired of it. So... I stopped wearing it. Sometimes I really miss it! *sigh*
I love your nose ring!! I have the "L" stud and ran into the same problem with the bar. I had to go get it cut out and the guy who did it for me told me you have to take it out and put it back in every other day (thanks for telling me this initially??? lol) I also have my lip pierced and alternate btw a hoop and a stud. Whenever I take them out I feel incomplete. I can't imagine myself without them :)
I have a naval piercing. I got it when I was 40. Of course many said I was too old. Oh well. I got to give honey something else to look at besides my scar from surgery. I enjoy the jewelery.
I really enjoyed watching this video (like all your videos)! I have a nose ring too! I got it this summer. Did you get your nose re-pierced in the same spot? Did it hurt more than the first time if you did it? I think I might have to get mine re-pierced (it got stuck when I lost the captive ball).
I want my ears pierced soooooo bad but im scared i will get a keloid i dont have any scars on me dont think they run in my fam so i just dont know what to do!
ur nose ring looks amazing on u, my mother pierced her ears and that thing had a big keloid on it and she had to have it remove. interesting video. i only have a belly ring, tragus piercing and other piercing in ma ears. Finey
Loved One where did you get your hoop I have been looking for one for years. My nose is pierced twice and my daughters also have theirs i am really looking for the right hoop
i love piercings, have had tongue, belly button, lip and wanted eyebrow, but had to give all that up for my job. love my tats though! u r right about the jobs situations, it all depends. looking forward to the video on going back to school as an adult. the nose ring is really cute.
I've had my nose pierced twice, a lip ring, and a belly ring..and I loved them all..although I don't have any of them now..they were a way for me to express myself..and soon I'll be re-piercing my nose!! thanks for the video!
I used to think hoop nose rings were SO tacky, but after seeing your you have DEF changed my mind. It looks so classy and idk what you've been doing lately makeup or lighting or whatever but you are looking FABULOUS
I have always wanted my nose pierced but the jobs(healthcare) that I have had have not been conducive for it. I think it is beautiful on women of color for some reason because I think it is just natural-looking. Gorgeous looking on you as well!!
My mommy has her nose pierced and has for years, I tried to pierce my own and lawwd couldnt get throught the cartilage, it hurt like a Mo Fo... Lol. So instead when I was 32 I said well I will just get a tattoo on my lower back (a big ol butterfly) Dude did the out line and I didnt get it filled in cause it hurt.. lol. I love your nose ring :)
Watching this video is making me want to get mine re-pierced. I took mine out this past September because I thought I was entering the workforce soon, yeah, that didn't happen. LOL. But this is an excellent video!
I teach 6th grade and recently got my nose pierced. It hasn't been a problem at my school at all. My principal and assistant have their nose pierced as well. I'm blessed to work for a school that's extremely diverse.
Girl are you wearing lashes? If so you are rocking them...I am still in training trying to learn to put them on quickly...it takes me waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long to put mines on otherwise I would rock them everyday.
My mother has a nose piercing and hers keep falling out. She is contemplating whether or not she should have her nose pierced again for the 3rd time.
@AFRICANEXPORT LOL, hey at least you are honest and letting him know up front. So there will no be surprises. And like you say....there is no other way than to keep it real...and your piercing is what's real!
Good for you! Funny thing is I have been thinking about getting a 2nd piercing in my ear and going to school for a masters soon. Right on time with the vid! :)

Sister in Christ,

the face you made about retail jobs sums up everything that I have ever felt as a 22 year that has worked a plethora of retail for 2 years and has left.

MyDimpledSmile 1 year ago
you didnt mention plastic retainer rings! ... makes the piercings almost INVISIBLE, even up-close.

It looks GORGEOUS on you, though. So envious!

@CurlyCrazyfulLeah how long did it take for the pain to go away? Was it more uncomfortable or painful? I'm gonna get mine done tomorrow and i'd like to know =)
uhohitsMiKEY 1 year ago
@uhohitsMiKEY You'll be fine. It hurt for maybe a couple seconds and then it was just kinda sore to the touch for a few days. It's really not that bad. :)

hmm. I have gauges and have not had problems. Although I have to say, they are not as accepted as other types of piercings. But hey, it's not for eveyrone, but it was for me.

You are on point about the keloids. My sons both got piercing in their ears and had to have their keloids surgically removed. they got huge. I warned them, but they didn't listen once they turned 18. lol I wanted my belly pieced but changed my mind because of the keloids. Good info AE!

BlackWomanScholar 1 year ago
@BlackWomanScholar yes, my grandmother had them so I didn't get my ears pierced until I was 12 or 13. MY mother didn't want to chance me having the skin of my grandmother.!!! So it was my chose and mom warned me.. I was lucky.

AFRICANEXPORT 1 year ago
@AFRICANEXPORT This is the same thing. But I have a feeling that I wont get keloids. But my mom doesn't want me to pierce my ears or anything. I'm almost 18 so...idk if I wanna take the chance of getting my ears pierced. My mom and grandma got keloids after they had shots and stuff. I've never gotten any keloid from a shot or any injuries. I have two sort of raised scars, but they are small and confined within the boundaries of the injuries. Do you think I could have a chance of getting keloids?

I had a nose ring did, it took a lot of guts to get it. I worked for a fast food place at the time and they disagreed with it. I had to take out ring. I had just got it did about 3 to 4 days before getting this employment. After I couldn't keep it. I went to putting a straw in my nose, that didn't work out either. I let it close.

Don't Indian (South Asian) wear nose rings or studs. I have worked in a corporate environment and I seen a number of Indian women with them.
porkchop745 1 year ago
@porkchop745 yes your right!im sure in a corporate environment they would consider that a cultural thing and to avoid discrimination issues wouldn't find it an issue, I don't think they would view it the same way with with an African American... Just my thoughts lol

Are those your lashes? They are pretty? If not who are they by?
cuttinup97 1 year ago
Oh, I wore a very small stud the whole time. I would alternate with pretty colored stones but kept losing them so I just went back to my original stud. LOL! I couldn't believe I never lost that thing after 6 years.
Most people didn't notice that my nose was pierced unless they stared at my nose or I mentioned it. Man, talking about it makes me want to get it redone!!!
aisoleil 1 year ago
