Only Geddy Lee can kick ass while playing bass, at the same time as singing high-pitched notes, then switch to keyboards in a second, then to jumping around the stage, then use MIDI pedals. ONLY GEDDY CAN DO THAT!
rush are as canadian as maple trees ..no pun intented, and they will always belong to canada, but i'm soo bummed that they skipped montreal on this next tour..half this album was recorded in montreal, and montreal is where they were welcomed with open arms, and true fans..still don't know why they wouldn't come here..they always came...that sucks some serious balls ! but i still love them !
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
Perhaps one of the greatest aspects of Rush's music lies in Lifeson's magnificent intricacies of his interplay, the lush, textural yet crisp jangling sound of his play. It's breathtaking, reptetitive and magnificent. I mean just listen to the intro of Red Barchetta or the instrumental interlude on here and you see what i mean. I think it's an aspect of Rush that is not appreciated at all since it is overshadowed by Geddy Lee's bass playing and Neil's drumming (which are also awesome of course)
I saw them during this concert at the old Boston Garden. They sound better in concert than the studio, and that is what they are famous for---their live shows. That's how they survived early on without radio play. I have been a fan since Hemishperes (78 I believe). Used to be the Best Band Ever!!! Now I don't know with that garbage they put out after SIgnals. A Shame. But their concerts are still the best (R30, Live in RIo, etc).
I feel the same. I come from the Moving Pictures era. I mostly listen to PRE Signals RUSH.
Live in Rio blew my mind away. I think RUSH' song line up catered to what the people wanted to hear. Notice how most of the tunes RUSH played were before SIGNALS.
I thought I would never see NATURAL SCIENCE live....and there it was...One of my favorite tunes from RUSH. I got up and played the AIR GUITAR like a mad man!! hahahha
I feel exactly the same way! Finally someone who understands the beauty of rush. And i have too agree with you that their songs after signals was kinda lousy but you gotta learn too like them :P But seriosly, they are the best band ever. I get goosebumps everytime i hear a song before signals. And i think snakes and arrows is really good too. I love rush. Seriously
i agree, but at the same time it was this transition in their music after the singles era that contributed to their fame so well, it was the fact that a prog-rock band even had that same progression in their career.
Man I can't believe you guys! Thinking great Rush music stopped at Signals. You're missing out on sooo much great music. IE, Power Windows is probably Rush's best album.
@paulatreides123 Greatest Rush music stopped at Moving Pictures, their last greatest album. After that, it was all synth and almost no bass guitar. Geddy is back at the bass in concert lately, where he really shines out.
Jesus....talk about musical practitioners....simply amazing....one of my greatest concert going achievements was seeing Rush in support of "Vapor Trails" at Jones Beach. I gotta tell ya...I honestly don't know what took me so long to see them (save for maybe low funds and bad timing)....but they surpassed everything I'd heard from others who had. Flawless....timeless....world-class act!!

Good post. I might add that the original Taurus pedals pre-date MIDI by almost 10 years though.

I agree...it's one of the best live recordings ever. I think the all time greatest audio was done by Genesis on their Live Seconds Out Album.
Only my opinion though.
Rush Rules!!!
Cheers!
