This game really isnt as bad as its reputation is. I bought it used for like 10 bucks and gave it a spin expecting it to suck as bad as everyone else said. Know what, YES its not quite fallout 1 or 2 and if you go into it after playing 3 or NV you'll be disappointed but for the time it was made, it wasnt bad. Coulda stuck to the cannon more but meh, details are almost always lost.

there are 3 major stages in the game wasteland is start then a ghouls city and then a super mutant infested vault where half of the vault is destroyed after an explosion and another part is filled with mutants

later on you blow the vault to smithereens

FO1 and 2 is god. Tactics went a bit too far and doesnt really have the feel, but still a great game and gives you the option to play multi.

Fo3...slightly different from all the games, i just hate the lifelessness of NPC's and the feel is more like of an anime, but otherwise, not too bad game.

Wasteland is not sidescrolling, it's an isometric RPG. It's also not *technically* a Fallout game--it's set in a different universe, but has similar gameplay elements, and is not part of the series.

Van Burren was never released. Just a demo, I believe.

Fallout: Tactics is not cannon, so it won't help you understand the universe, though you may want to play it anyway because it's kind of fun.

This was the first Fallout game I played, and it really wasn't that bad when you got into it, the story line is better that that of Fallout 3, but Fallout 3 has much better gameplay. As for one and 2, can't wait to try them out.

Hell, I've played F1, F2, and Fallout Tactics and I see Fallout 3 as the game that really brought most of that wasteland "feel" to a whole new dimension. I honestly think Fallout 3 is awesome and is in no way an "insult" to the series.

The people who usually hate it are those that still play the originals yet I don't understand why they would hate a game that brought the old games back in a 3-D format and way more content than the originals could bring. I strongly recommend Fallout 3.
