SHIT! scratch that last comment! i didnt know they had a new album and the vocals on that album are exactly what i was talking about. and finally they have an album with decent vocal production. Anyone who hasnt heard Oblivion Beckons, do yourself a favor and check it out. Its seriously amazing. And now the band is pretty much "perfect"
this band is musically so fuckin awesome!!! i just have trouble gettin into the vocals for some reason. Theyre a lil ass rockish. They are obviously able to scream and growl. The clean vocals arent terrible. If only the cookie monster vocals and 80s metal style vocals were cut out and replaced with more aggressive or more harmony vocal parts, id probably listen to them way more. Any one else hear the cheese metal vocals too? or is it just me?
I had the pleasure to tour with these guys when I was in Arsis(God Forbid,Goatwhore,Mnemic,Byzantine, and Arsis Tour) Byzantine was my favorite band on the tour. Really good dudes and highly underrated. Fuck Prosthetic..you bastards. Love all you dudes,OJ,Skip,Wolf,And Tony!!
@wvmetalmaniac Isn't that the fucking truth. Sure beats Bobaflex. Anyone from West Virginia knows Bobaflex gets all of the local recognition while only the metal scene knows of Byzantine.
So i was looking for stuff like LoG and the Oh-so-amazing Pantera, and came across Byzantine. I love it. My only beef with it is that the singer sounds like Phil from Pantera. His screams dont, just his clean vocals. Some screams do sound like Phil's though. But what's cool is even though this singer sounds like Phil, the band still has a great, unique, and individual sound. Fucking awesome.
I live in Reno NV. and i've loved this band since The Fundamental Component came out. Fucking amazing!!! I would love to see them live, but it's so far away. @krosgood If you ever do get the change SEE them I live in West Virginia so I have seen them numerous times now you know how we feel with all the other bands out there MetaL
@krosgood they are broke up dude they did there like 3 fairwell shows back in march im pretty sure there done..theres talk of them getting back together but nothing is confirmed yet
If you ever get the chance to see Byzantine live, go see them. I am lucky enough to be from WV, and have seen them 3 times, my favorite metal band, and this video kicks ass
They tore this song a new one in Huntington. If this was them with two and a half years or rust I would of loved to see them two years ago, I hope this aint the last we see of Byzantine.
Pantera was definately not overrated. they were one of the greatest heavy metal bands of all time. RIP dime. but i do agree with you that this band is underrated. they are pretty fuckin brutal
groove metal is a metal genre where they play thrash riff to thrash riff, never going back to that riff, and the riffs are always changing.
devildriver, lamb of god, chimaira, throwdown, biohazard etc. most of those bands have evolved into a metalcore sound though, such as chimaira; who sounds really metalcore now. lamb of gods Sacrament closeley resembeled deathcore, but this time around with WRATH they went back to groove. Devildriver is a nice blend of melodic death metal and groove metal.
I really think As The Palaces Burn is their greatest material. I could listen to that album 200 times and not get tired of it, I swear. But Wrath is definitely my number 2 with them. What's your favorite song off of Wrath?
@dime6664ever i think "as the palaces burn" is by far log's best album followed by new american gospel... there newer shit doesnt sound that good to me....
Byzantine. One of the few bands that defied typical metal and made something entirely different, and just to think that they started out using only a drum machine. Absolutely amazing... Keep it metal!

why did these guys break up? I am form oakland california and I caught a byzantitne show in beckely west virginia while i was on vacation visiting some family, how did these guys get a record deal being from wv i know it had to have been tough
they probably got with a low grade record label and then got alittle better one and broke up,but if you really want to know go to there myspace page and ask them.
they broke up because they couldn't catch a break, they kept getting screwed (and continue to get screwed). for example, they were going on tour with Gizmachi(whom were playing Ozzfest that very year) and also Six Feet Under, but SFU backed out of the tour the last minute and fucked em over. plus they had families and bills that needed paying with "real" jobs.
What a drag; been hearing about these guys for months, finally got my hands on a copy of 'Oblivion Beckons' (which destroys me every time I listen to it) only to discover they split. :(

I didnt say you didnt help but seems to me from what I heard, the moneymaker hit the second stage and they were relegated to slug around in a shitty van. It may not be radio friendly ,but it makes me wonder if thier IMAGE did not fit with the label?
We don't have an image our bands need to fulfill. The Byzantine dudes are great guys and they've made three awesome records for us, there's just a lot of work involved from many different places and a little bit of luck for a band to ascend above the 'touring in a van' atmosphere. Regardless, we're proud to have been involved with Byzantine's last three albums and hope you guys have enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy, listening to them.
To be honest, I envy and worship Byzantine for everything they have accomplished. Having been part of several metal projects that have failed myself, its great to even have that chance to put your product out there for even 1 CD let alone 3. Placing the blame on the label itself is poor judgement as they do what they can. Sometimes the band needs to take that extra initiative. I respect the hell out of Byzantine and Prosthetic alike, and always will for the memories. Cheers guys.
I like the fundamental component the best out of all their albums... [other two are serpents and oblivion beckons] I wish I knew how to post songs... Cuz they are badass...
sometimes things like family and children have to come before music. even if it's the baddest shit ever laid down. i'm a fan for life. logan county mother fuckers!!!
we should try to make something all together so we can tell them to please come back! i would really REALLY! like to hear something from oblivion beackons live
Yeah whats even more fucked up is they were like the only successful metal band to emerge from god forsaken WV ( which is were I am, the armpit of society) and had a real great shot of being something huge in metal ,but too much ego floating in that band to do anything more than 3 albums. Lots of my friends know these guys personally, they've all said OJ is just a prick to his band and fans anymore. Which sucks because I really liked Byzantine
dude lots of famous people from here, Blackstone cherry, chum ( who used to be on mtv a long time ago in the 90's), byzantine (of course), zeroking is pretty big now, bloodblisters are big in the goth scene, boba flex, and i can name a lot more especially in some of the other musical genres.
metal mike you fucking dumbass piece of shit, they broke up. my friends used to take guitar lessons off of tony; we know. Get the dick out of your ass and come to reality.

Hey, the singer even laughed when I asked why they didn't play this. It's not that great of a song, and he straight up admitted it.
Kickass band though, or they were.... broke up
