I just bought one...should be good for the Zappa material & blues...I'm not worried about the boost bypass 'cos I'll be running the ol' Mutron III in front of it!
This is really an amazing wah. Why, though, do they not allow the MC401 Line Driver to be activated while the wah is off?? That would make this 2 pedals in one and push an already great tool over the top. Really a foolish design oversight.
This is obviously the best Wah of all time. So versatile and Distinct. The Throat inductor is great for Alice In Chain's type stuff the the other is Fantastic for the Original Crybaby Wah sound's.
@alexmetallicaZFC13 that comes standard with every CryBaby Wah. Just to ensure long lasting wah wah and to make sure moving the pedal isn't a challenge.
I am so glad I bought one of these. I have gad so many wahs from vintage to modern and this one is amazingly versatile for cleans to any amount of gains. q is on the inside because once you find the voice you like it keep it from changing. No big deal. This wah is less than some others I recently had which only sounded good on high gain. This one gets that cool Hendrixy clean tone as well as into Trower and others. Dig it.
How does this compare against the RMC Wizard? And people seem to think this sounds better than the EVH, but when I heard it (here on Youtube), the EVH seemed to have a wider sweep and get into brighter territory than the CAE...
Why the shit would you put the Q adjustment pots on the inside!? I like the pedal but if I buy it I'm drilling holes in the side and rewiring some exterior pots.
this or jerry cantrell wah. i play alot of guns n roses, led zeppelin, funk and blues. i really like the jerry cantrell wah but this is getting really good reviews. i can't go to a shop and try it out because i'm buying overseas and most australian stores don't stock that many medium-high end wahs. so i need some real big help
I was looking at either this wah or the 535q crybaby because of their versatility, which would you guys recommend for things like blues/rock, hard rock, metal, etc.?
@GuitarAddiction7 this would probably by more versatile because it has the dual inductors, so you could cover more genres. the 535q is more vintage sounding to my ear, so for things like hard rock and metal this would probably be better. Overall i think that the CAE is the best, just a personal preference though
@slayerized667 for sure. sold my clyde deluxe and picked´up this one... more agressive, more versatile... the internal trimpots for "Q" lets you adjust the tighness of the wah, so, if you want something more creamy or more agressive you can dial it! besides the dual fazel, one for soloing screaming fucking loud and other one more 'vocal-like' vintage.. put your shoes on it, won´t regret
If you kind folks at PGS want to please a dedicated true fan of yours please answer this- How does this wah fare against an older Budda Budwah (not the new ones, apparently they're crappier now), or against say a Hendrix Signature (the one I own)...or Buddy Guy wah? I mean quality of parts, durability and general sound (its brighter, has bigger sweep, etc) thanks guys, PGS is the best!
Ever since I got my first Crybaby years ago, I've always wondered what that white-ish substance is that's kind of covering the little gears inside the wah at around 0:35. Anybody know what it's called?
Man this is sweet. Andy, your voice is like audible chocolate. You're like a cooler version of Casey Kasem AND with good taste in music. I just bought one of these from you guys and I'm stoked on getting it. Chalk another order up to these awesome gear videos and great customer service. PGS rocks.
I bet you get home every day and think to yourself 'I love my job'. Just letting you know that you do a damn good job of it- even though I'm across the pond I still use the PGS vids to pick out gear! Kudos from 'sunny' England!
@meatloafcomics Now it's out the Jerry Cantrell Signature wah, that is cheaper than this, and it's fantastic. I have a Crybaby 535Q multiwha and in the booklet inside that a Jerry cantrell setting. Look at the 535Q or the Jerry Cantrell signature.
@meatloafcomics Based on what I understand about this pedal vs the jerry cantrell model, i think you'd want to use the red fasel inducter for a darker wah with more low/mid emphasis for more a more Jerry Cantrell like sound. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@ItsStephenSON I really want a new wah, and I really want the Custom Electronic Booster/line driver. If I can use the Boost without wah then I am sold.
This, the Buddy Guy, Jerry Cantrell, Kirk Hammett and EVH wah's are the best out there imo. I'd probably be more inclined to get this over any of the others though, this one has the versatility
I haven't tried copping J's sound for a while, but back in the day I got closest by running guitar into an overdrive into wah into Big Muff and engaging both distortions. I've no idea if this is what J did, but having gain on both sides of the wah gives you that crazy, haunted house sounding wah like on "Kracked" and others. Try it and see if that get's you in the neighborhood.
I'm looking for that same Dino sound. Don't now how J makes it sound like that, but I know that he is using this very pedal... Well he didn't back in the days, but he does know.
@ :56 are those IC's? board mounted jacks? Thanks but no thanks. That circuit board looks like it was populated and soldered by a machine. $170? Boutique price for a mass produced wah? I'd pay 170 for hand wired but not for this. It does sound good though. No qualms there.
Thank you? ColdGreenChili. The main difference between them is that CAE uses two different circuits (inductors are different) for different tones and buddy guy wah uses a frequency filter. In my opinion its better to use two different circuits, but in music - who knows? awaiting my CAE soon...
This thing sounds pretty nice, curious if you can replace the inductors with say a Whipple Inductor? Also wondering if it has a fuzz buffer because it sounds pretty nice with the fuzz (I know some wahs don't)?
remove the silicon on top of the pots, use a sharpie to mark the default position and then tweak it until you like what you hear. Thats all I can tell you lol let me know if you find a better way to do it
I have a Clyde Deluxe and love the tone of it. It's all a matter of taste, both are incredibly versatile. To my ears, the CAE doesn't sound as sweet and musical, but some might prefer the more "in-your-face" sound of it and it's much more mid-prononuced sound, which cuts better through the mix (the Fulltone cuts through the mix nicely as well, don't worry). The only thing in this clip that's steering me away from the CAE is the small sweep with distortion at 2:40 to 3:00.
i think is better before distortion because i tried mine after and it sound horrible when you activate it, it sounds like the wah dominates the distortion and decreases the ditortion power.......at list with my effects
LOL i guess they don't pay you enough Andy !!! you always demo the wah's with the same shoes . guys lets all make donations to buy Andy a new shoes LOL .
thats the easiest problem in the world to fix. all you have to do is take the back off, unscrew the white plastic piece that holds the piece of plastic attached to the pot in place, pull the piece of plastic back, play and turn the pot until you cut out the harsh top end, then put it back together.
Well, Bob Bradshaw (owner) has built effects and switching systems for a few artist that you may be familiar with. Such as: Mike Landau, Steve Lukather, Ed Van Halen, Steve Vai and more.
I have a Fulltone Clyde Deluxe anditwasadifficult choice between it and the CAE 404. By the Way, CAE builds the Bradshaw Rig $25,000+ Satriani uses. Along with 100 other stars.
Its not Clyde Mcoy...(I think at least). It is made by the Dunlop owned company MXR...as for Custom Audio Electronics, I've never heard of it, seems like a company involved with MXR and Dunlop or a word used to mean high class Dunlop and MXR pedals
Custom Audio Electronics is Bob Bradshaw's company, he is a legend in the guitar effects, amp and in particular custom pedal board industry. He has worked with people like Steve Vai since the 80's.
