  • Also, two of the guys who brought heavy squatting to the forefront (both respectively called "the original powerlifter") were Olympic lifters: Doug Hepburn and Paul Anderson.

At any rate, I think I've filled up this comment section for just about long enough. If you or anyone else has anything else to say, then please do.

  • Where was that raw part? 3 miles long knee wraps, belt size of truck tire and probably Inzer power pants too. Also 30 feet wide stands make this lift way easier. If you'd like to see some raw squat with 800 pounds check out "BROZKNOWS". I don't care what is your bodyweight. What about your height? If you're 5'6" midget with T-Rex arms than this lift would be way easier for you than for someone who's 6'7". Seems like everybody forget about this little detail.

  • @m5p944 ...one of the more retarded comments I have seen on here, what the fuck does arm length have to do with squat? Being heavier like Pat from BROZKNOWS makes it easier...

    Belt is raw

Knee wraps are considered raw by many

Stance doesn't mean its not raw, also preferable stance is different for different people. Some people make narrow stance work better for them, some prefer wide... Its retarded to squat a way that makes you weaker on the lift when the goal is to lift heavy weight...

  • @SquirtTribePride Pat Mendes did 800 raw without wraps and belt @ 20yrs old. I'm sure this guy can weigh as much as Pat and still not equal Pat's feat. Pat never needs a spot; because he knows how to squat and dump and bail. But yeah wraps and belt is considered raw by powerlifters...also I agree with you that it's best to lift in the form that allows you to lift the most weight if that's your goal...why would a boxer punch in a manner that makes it harder and slower? so yeah I agree with u

  • @IJIT11809 pat is not chuck norris, sam out squats him using the only acceptable measurement of a squat(the wilks formula) sinclair is for weightlifting(clean and snatch) dummy

sam is indisputably a better squatter, until pat drops below 200 and squats more than 800, or squats a higher wilks

  • @ptrgeorge1

Byrd isn't squatting it olympic style. Until Sam drops all the way into the hole, close stance with no belt and no wraps, he's not a better squatter.

  • @Draykid He's not an OLYMPIC lifter. He is a POWER lifter. What constitutes a olympic squat, isn't the same for a squat in a power meet. A proper squat at a meet is when the hip is parallel to the knee. If those are the rules, that's the way he trains it.

  • @zmaybasser46

Uh, you somehow managed to COMPLETELY miss the point, which is that a squat in the power lifting style a.) allows for more weight, b.) requires LESS depth, therefore enabling further weight increase, and c.) Sam is wearing a belt and wraps which both allow for FURTHER weight increase, as well as taking strain off of the abdominals and tendons. All in all, an 800 squat deeper, with less supportive gear, in the harder style is better by default.

  • @Draykid My point is that he is training for powerlifting not olympic lifting. Most sanctioned meets from federations deem wraps and a belt RAW. Now whether this is appropriate to some people doesn't really matter, because the choice is his. He's a strong person, so why do you have rag on him? Just accept the fact that he did a good set.

  • @zmaybasser46

I'm really NOT ragging on him personally and I never said it was a weak squat- any guy squatting 800 in any form is a fucking monster; I'm rebutting the claim that this squat is a stronger squat than Pat Mendes' 800 pound squat, which you can see an argument about below; Byrd's training purpose is irrelevant in determining the stronger squat. Mechanically speaking, the extra distance makes Pat Mendes' 800 pound squat much stronger.

  • @Draykid Ahh, sorry about that - I didn't see the previous argument. Mendes' squat is just nuts period. Also at 20 y.o. or whatever he is. I apologize for looking like an asshole.

  • @zmaybasser46

Likewise. I reacted pretty negatively myself and misinterpreted what you were saying. Have a good day man.

  • @Draykid you don't get extra points for going lower. if they both squatted in the same meet, byrd would win due to being 60+ pounds lighter

  • @bretchet23

Pat Mendes' 800 pound squat was not a meet lift. Let's assume that belt, wraps and power lifting stance each add either 10 or 20 pounds to a lift. In this event, Pat Mendes would either squat 830 or 860 given some time to train for a powerlifting meet. Furthermore, let's assume (as Fred Hatfield postulated) that a few inches of depth can add or remove anywhere up to 100 pounds to a lift... but at any rate, who would win in a meet is irrelevant.

  • @Draykid you're assuming a lot. so far mendes' comp numbers are much much lower than his gym numbers. he's supposedly snatched 207 in the gym but missed 182 at the arnold's this year. the fact is, oly lifters brag about their squats a lot for people who don't even squat in competition. that'd be like magnusson saying he can snatch 200+ but never actually proving it in front of anyone besides his coach.

  • @bretchet23

I'm only quoting a.) most powerlifters (who say that wraps, belt should add about 10-20 pounds to your lift each), and b.) Fred Hatfield. And if you check, there's footage of Mendes both squatting 800 pounds with complete control, no spotters, no wraps, no belt, and snatching 207.

  • @Draykid neither of which has he ever done in competition. like i said, he couldn't even snatch 182 in the arnold's.

  • @bretchet23

A lot of Oly lifters come up with far superior gym numbers, or false numbers are simply reported to the press. Whether Broz is the type to falsify a 207 snatch or not, I'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself. I do know that a great number of lifters lose lifts that they've made before.

And Koklyaev is an incredibly strong motherfucker.

  • @Draykid also, if you want someone who can actually back up their numbers in pl and ol, watch koklyaev. 210 snatch, 250 c&j, and he's actually squatted 805 pounds in COMPETITION. just because someone's an oly lifter doesn't excuse them from skepticism.

  • @ptrgeorge1 sam byrd is a shit squatter compared to pat mendes. Pat's 800 squat is legendary. byrds 800 squat is wimpy

  • @ptrgeorge1 byrd maxes out on squats once a week. pat maxes out on squats 2-3 times a day. pats got that bitch beat at his own game.

  • @ptrgeorge1 what can byrd squat without a belt and knee wraps??? can't do 800 like pat can...

  • Comment removed

  • @SquirtTribePride

also, don't even think this is a better 800lbs. squat than Pat's. Pat's 800lbs squat is legendary. He walks it out, squats it, and racks it. Alone.

  • Sam weighed under 220 in this clip

  • Stan Efferding squatted 800 raw twice, and then 850 for one rep

  • @1JayCutlerFan1 yea well stan efferding weighs anywhere from 280-300 lbs. so thats like comparing apples to oranges.

  • hell of a lift. With or without wraps, I'm never coming close to that weight.

  • Freaking strong

  • damn strong for sure but not RAW.If we really wanted to see how strong everybody really is,drop all the gear and get under the bar.And no for all you smart asses, that don`t mean get naked.

  • @teufelhunden5811

What if we want to be naked?

  • @BombDonald already adressed that, nothing wrong with being a gear whore,I just thought RAW meant no gear at all...I`m not a monster squatter with or wothout gear, but I do know wraps, belt make a big difference in the weight used.whatever.makes no difference to me...I have done 315 for 33 set of 8 though in an hour.only used a thin belt.

  • @teufelhunden5811 Can we please be naked?!

  • holy shit. that is some serious power.

  • he just recently did 765 in just a belt..what a beast!

  • THATS FUCKED! sam, you are one special person to be able to do that. keep up the hard work. you are an inspiration.

  • Now THAT is a REAL squat....

  • raw . no

  • he was raw. if he was using gear he would be in the 1000s. look at his hips they are a little loose if he was in gear they would not move

  • Awesome squat!

  • Not raw,he's wearing wraps..Awesome power!

  • FYI, its still considered raw with a belt and wraps.

  • Some federations consider wraps raw, others do not.. I have personally seen guys get 100lbs out of a pair of wraps..

  • Total hoss

  • Good to see you always improving sam

  • Unreal

  • Great job Sam!
