@MsAnimecosplayer For a very good reason--some of the same people worked on it. You'll see even more of a similarity between the Last Unicorn and the Hobbit and Return of the King cartoons. Interestingly enough, the author of the Last Unicorn wrote a forward to one of the LOTR books. Fantasy people are all part of the same little world. ;)
