  • A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam. And for a brief moment its glory and beauty belong to our world. But then it flies on again, and though we wish it could have stayed, we feel so lucky to have seen it. In Living Memory of My Mother and Sister.

    Archison Lazarus.

  • Altri pezzi su questo genere ne conoscete?

  • ascolto in silenzio religioso questo pezzo timane in assoluto un caposaldo per chi come me ama sonorita' raffinate...magiche sensuali...tell me why....

  • i think of my dad everytime I hear this : )

  • Was that a tambourine solo??

  • Song is brilliant...but I'm getting a hernia looking at that woman dance...she should take a rest before she pulls a muscle or something.

  • this song is just magic

  • Bit strange the appeal for peace and harmony and unity is accompanied by a dancing semi naked girl. *sigh* Message lost, much?

  • @timbearcub the reason why there is a gogo girl, this clip is from a german music show called msuikladen, its from the 70s, they had gogo girls dancing to every song in this show.

  • @BrotherSoul2000 i mean "musikladen" music shop, was very popular in germany, like top of the pops in uk

  • @BrotherSoul2000 ahh yes I've heard of it, used to show repeats of that late night on TV in the 80s/90s. Still a strange choice I think, but then again TOTP\s Pan's People did some odd routines (Bankrobber?) to some very non-dance music....

  • @timbearcub oh yes of course it doesnt make sense, they did a lot of strange/odd/nonsense on tv in the 70s isnt it? who knows what they thought, maybe get more viewers with some dancing girls...

  • Great Bass pedal work!

  • This was one of the first singles I bought. I was around 10 years old and it is still one of my favorites. Funky!

  • mercy you tube pour la memoire

  • ............I hope they had a Chyropractor on call for the dancer! - Nice riddim tho'

  • THIS IS PURE CLASSIC SOUL!!! Even the Sade version makes me wanna make this world a better place. DJ Emmett from Detroit put this in a soul mixtape last year.

  • The hammond B3...nothing else like it...it stands alone!!!

  • yes cheeeeeezy lyrics but great keyboard play

  • Just heard this on the radio, forgotten how god dam good this song was.

  • She's an 11 on a 10 scale.

  • Man that was almost 40 years ago, but that chick dancin in the background is smokin hot, lol. why couldnt me and her live together, lol.

  • Does anyone by any chance have the Why can't we live together video that was shown on MTV in the early 90's?

The video itself showed a couple dancing outdoors. It was something like swing dance. If you do, could you please contact me?

    Thanks, George

  • @TotalDesignZ I'm looking for this video FOR YEARS.... just came to youtube to check if it is here... *sigh*

  • @skylla73 Well, now you know. If YOU find it, please let me know and I'll do the same.

    George

  • smooth

  • Wow, that chick!!!

  • I do not think that is a b-3. It's a Hammond , maybe A-100 or an E-100

  • Great Electric Organ work!

  • Comment removed

  • WHY CAN't WE LIVE TOGETHER? エロティックでグルービー映像、ティミー・トーマスが唄とオルガンで喘ぐ #jazzm

  • Timeless!!

  • This is a protest song or social song. Why all the cheesy go go dancers?

  • zawsze wiedziałem, że to chodzi o d..y !!!

  • That is a Hohner Automatic-Rhythm-Player beatbox sitting on top of the Hammond @ 2.22

  • @dakarlion1 Cos some mussys want to blow you up brother.. or maybe sister..

  • great song- but is timmy performing at a strip club?? is that cher?! thats pretty lousy actually.

  • Musikladen / Bremen / Germany... fantastic Music-TV Show in the 70´s

  • Deep.....

  • Amazing nobody ever commented on the voluptuousness of the sexy dancer-girl in the clip, lol. man she is hot!, song is amazingly hot to btw!

  • @rhaivaen She's the hotest dancer I've seen in the last few years. Certainly lives the song. Man, I envy Timmy... It was certainly mellow times over in the 70's & 80's pitty we can't bring them back.

  • a true classic jam from the magical 70s.

    WOOF WOOF!!!

  • Why can't we live together?

  • why can' t we live together bella letra y una melodia super feeling que le pone timmy valeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I love this song but who ripped of who? Look up Piero Umiliani White Sand. Both songs came out at about the same time.

  • @statebarajas Thanks for sharing this - I was unaware of the Italiano version. Apparently and according to Piero's web site, Timmy Thomas had released his record in 1972 whereas Piero's was 1973

  • I never heard anyone play foot pedals like this guy. It's funky & sounds like a base player would love to use that bass line.

  • @Cliner98 HELLO! You are correct. There's no sound that can compare to the B3. I also like the mini moog keyboard.

  • I love Santana... but this is the best version!!!

  • Akinek ez nem jön be, azzal komoly gondok vannak, igaz? Hát akkor: Vigyááázz...kééész...tüzelsz?

  • he copied this record off sade

  • @ieatlotsoftoast it was the other way round, this is the original

  • @ieatlotsoftoast This is from 1973 Sade was still in grade school.

  • See the MTV remix video (with the dancers in the street) here:

  • Wow, dieser Musikladen ist ein echter Diamant und Weltkuturerbe.

Zu der Zeit war ich grad mal sechs Jahre alt :-)

    Danke für diesen Schatz!

    Stratos

  • funk me up landlord

  • LOUDER PLEASE!!.............

  • was this played on my grandma's 1967 harmond? lol

  • What a song, incredible.

  • Eu cacei essa música por décadas, thank you tube!!!!! kkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • sure sounds like a B3, can't beat that cheesy classic sound

  • Anyone know if he's playing a famous Hammond B-3 organ on this clip ?

  • @1xcalibur

It is a Hammond, but njot a B-3. Some sort of electronic spinet version. All the more impressive that he gets that sound.

The original recording used some sort of non-Hammond organ that was much cheesier.

    The Organfreak Has Spoken

  • @organfreak - it's a tonewheeler, an M-102. He's using just the Vibrato Small tab, and the pedal fast decay tab. Sounds like they miked the internal speakers. Fun little organs, and they scream through a Leslie.

  • Amo esta rola. Sépanlo!

  • love it

  • Such a simple message, yet so true. Thanks. One of the all-time greats.

  • Good Lord, a slice of the seventies to keep me going...tnx, great song, heavenly body too...

  • Great song, great clip!!! Love it

  • foda foda foda com toda as palavras

    fodaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • W A H N S I N N !!!!

  • top clip to a brilliant song. thanks.

  • good track

  • 3:15 he was going off on the base pedals. Damn that sounded good. Never heard anyone run base pedals like that before.

  • It put a smile on my face that a song that I've long forgotton came on the radio. Of course it was on Sunday. But I youtube it. Wow, memories~ I was 9 years old when this tune came out. 70's was by far the best music. Meaning, styles, people getting along.

  • Tenner says 5 minutes later that lass was back to work on the reeperbahn :o) class tune though, no two ways.

  • excellent....thank you for this unforgettable memory

  • sweet

  • This is an amazing tune, I have been listening to all sorts of versions all day, but the original stands alone. (I could do w/o the gyrating woman, however!) It's true, very mysterious & profound, Jhensy2001.

We need more songs like this nowadays. For some reason, both this song and "Be Thankful for What You Got" ("...diggin' the scene w/ a gangster lean...") stick in my mind as having a similar groove. I feel lucky to have come of age when I did.

  • Once again this is ..the ...Belgian "touch".. from the Van Passel's Brother , also creators of "Rock your baby "(Georges McRae ) ..and " If we can start all over" copied by MJ for ... You're not alone" !

  • master tune, this tune had a second time round in the second summer of love, the rave era 89, i was in this tiny movment as it was then , we thought this was going to be a big change like back then , but shit happens.

  • Absolute classic and if only the world had listened to him years ago. We must find away to put and end to war and hatred. We must find away to live in peace and above all we must learn to respect each other and show love for one another. The planet was given to all of us, let us share it properly and help the poor and starving when we can. God bless all that hear this gem of gems.

  • Remember playing this song on stage in (Senior High School) in Junction City, Kansas (1973)

  • Fantastic! This is one beautiful song, So sad that it can still send out a message today! It shows that the human race has learnt nothing.

  • Absolutely one of my favorite all time tunes ever. This stands alone and it always will. . .

  • One of the most mysterious and profound songs of my youth. It came from a dark and strange place.

  • Hypnotic and beautiful. One of my fav's of all time. I challenge people not to want to sing along. Pure soul !

  • thanks! this buries the studio version in my opinion. this is bathed in soul...

  • this song gets to the minute and a half mark before the vocal, strange in the day for pop radio ...surprised that programmers went with it...beautiful song..thanks

  • Get rid of the FBI., CIA., and the KKK and we can live together.Thanx Timmy Thomas for a great song.

  • FANTASTIC BRILLIANT BEAUTIFUL I am so surprised to see so few comments on one of the most beautiful songs ever. Not to mention the talent second to none of Timmy Thomas.

I have found it at last!!!!

  • nice

  • Beautiful song, thanks for posting!!!

  • this is such a great song. steve winwood's been doing it lately live also.
