  • i wish i went to avon for this alone speedway has nothing like it and i actually care for marching band

  • I was a sophomore this year...I feel so old watching this because I still remember marching it so well.

  • This is an AMAZING SHOW!!! I'm such a band geek :)

  • THIS IS A MARCHING BAND!?!?!?!?! SOUNDS LIKE A CONCERT BAND!!!!

  • Powerful and Impressive. Loved it :)

  • i go there avon, indiana

  • phantom regiment is doing this

  • boston crusaders are doing this this year

  • Their 2009 show was the best in my opinion. Last year's wasn't too great until BOA, then they pretty much had it perfect.

  • Ok, 1st of all, this is a high school?????? I asked that same question atleast 12 times throughout the video. I wana go 2 that school.

  • @koribae You should check out the 2010 Show. It is better than this one.

  • @wire22wire 2009 is the BEST.

  • @wire22wire I agree. But I don't understand why no one ever talks about 2009. That show absolutely floored me!

  • @wire22wire I totally agree that one made me cry because now I have a hero in marching band or a band hero lol I actually know a few people in the avon marching band, they work on their show starting in just then once it gets to july they have a competition that will approve how their show works and the theme and everything then another one in august the once november comes around its crunch time to get their pre show that was approved or changed at ther july show then november 20th is the day

  • @koribae , yes this is a high school, Avon HS a suburb of Indianapolis. They have dominated the Indiana state championships the past several years and rightfully so, they are awesome!

  • @koribae If you really want to experience incredible watch Avon 2009. Com-Uniform-Ity widely considered one of the greatest Marching Band shows of all time.

  • seminole high school 2004, Experiment 33776; An Adventure in Modernism

  • I have one word to describe this show, "wow." The Los Angeles, CA Marching Bands do not look like this :(

  • The arrangement may be "Against the Clock" but the original music is from Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem. I also heard a little of the Mozart Requiem in there.

  • NISHARA BAND DID THIS OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

  • GEEZUS!!!!!!!!!

  • are they singing????? :o

  • this is actually a good performance... but after watching the precision of the japanese marching bands, this kinda look messy...

  • South Carolina Band is More Abstract.

  • Drill is fucking sick dude!! And I love the music. It all fits in real well

  • Last week I saw Avon at state... I wish I was in Avon now :'(

  • This is just like Nishiharas show from 04-05 when they went to nationals

  • where's the end of the props where it had "the biggest mistake was to turn time" shown by the colorguard?! i've been look so long for that part!

  • @wasid13 That was not added to the show until after state finals. As I recall, the first time it appeared was the Bands of America Indianapolis Regional.

  • you won my heart in the first 20 seconds....then you played a note.........and now i'm hooked. great job guys. amazing show, amazing performance, and amazing band.

    keep up the good work!

  • they went from texas style, all gemoetric one giant moving form to copying striaght off a well renowned band's unique style. compare this to 2009 and look at the difference.

  • JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!

  • The Nishihira Marching Band performed this better, but i love that alot of people joined marching band in this school :)

  • i remember seeing thins show at regionals 2007......i was in the band that got silver jeffersonville high school marching band.....we didnt do that great that esp. in the 1st movement.....but you all were amazing really

  • I was there! It was amazing!!! This was my uncles last show before he graduated!!!

  • You gotta be pretty darn good to beat Carmel High School. And wow, these guys are just that. Amazing band program you've got here.

  • OMG I saw this !!!! It Was A Good Show !!!

  • Should have placed 1st with this show. then 2nd in 08, then maybe first again in 09

  • I did not know there was a marching band version of the requiems.

  • What is the Opening song btw? I always it was dies Irae but ... then Our 3rd song is Dies Irae so I'm like .... hmmm?

  • BACK TO BACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONS GO AVON

    Getting better every year

    RELENTLESS

  • Comment removed

  • Nishihara*

  • I heard people say that Avon is getting annoying. That because they are good! I think Avon is unstoppable. Bell just didn't have it this year and Avon was on their A game!

  • Verdi's Requiem: Dies Irae

  • omg is the opening amano masamichi's BR symphony??

  • I would say if this could have been scored in a drum corps competition, they would have easily made semifinals.

  • wow, you guys continue to blow my mind hahaha.I saw you guys last year at grand nationals and loved your show! I'm in the Gateway High School Marching Band. Too bad we got 33rd and just missed semis.

  • This show was life changing. I don't really find avon to be better than any other school...but THIS SHOW in 2007 was the best in the WORLD...able to compete with drum corps. Wish they would do that again...

  • I KNOW!!! everyone says massive was the best show, but i agree this was our best show ever, and we ended not winning nats with this.... i'm sorry flipped on what shoulda won nats

  • i wouldnt say compete with drum corps.. its impossible for a high school ensemble to be on the same level as a drum corp. individually and as a group.. buttttt this was quite amazing

  • Damn that stadium sucks..Couldn't even hear what they were doing half the time. I think I heard the battery about 3 times the whole show.

  • @JetPoweredFace lucas oil stadium kicks ass!!!!

  • Yeah, it's huge, but the acoustics blow nutsack and you can't deny it.

  • that was sickkkkkkk!

  • AVON Marching Black and Gold placed #1 because they are the BEST!

  • Comment removed

  • texas has alot more competition, ld bell, marcus, stephen f. austin hebron high school? ever heard of them?

  • I've heard of Ld Bell and Marcus but not stephen austin

  • Texas does have a lot of competition, but don't count out the great bands of Indiana, Carmel, Lawrence Central, Ben Davis, Center Grove, ever heard of them??????

  • Comment removed

  • Which is why Avon won Grand Nationals 2008 against several Texas bands...

And now I'm scared shitless for our run at it this year

  • Haha u should be we have some beast shows Marcus and L.D.Bell

  • GREAT OPENING!

  • my marching band has 150 or so people and this is just too much....

    you are freaking insane!!!!!!

how much do they practice a week?

they probally live in their fine arts building in school....

  • ohh what a great senior year!!

if u look at the front line on the left 40....thats me. The guy next to me got his trumpet stuck in my uniform right off the start...haha....

  • holy crap you are so freaking lucky.......

  • No Texas is far more competitive than Indiana

  • AVON IS THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!! :D well i think so :P ... i remember that year! VERY FUN THANKS TO ALL SCHOOLS WHO COMPETED YOU PUT UP A HECK OF A FIGHT!!!! love you all! dude ben davis was totally rockin thAT

  • better at what? lol

  • Indiana is the most competitive marching band state in the nation. im a member of the Lafaette Jefferson M.B. in Lafayette... and it's tought, but its always alot of fun. Avon is an amazing band and its always cool to see what they are doing year by year... well ill see you guys at semi-state on saturday!!!

  • Does Avon get a lot of support from the community? Our school district keeps trying to cut our music program...

  • My question is why so much pit equipment? Insane to have so many keyboards...

  • if they all can play well why not have so much mallets?

  • Well if you're using amps to bring out the mallets, you really don't need as many. I would take that same cash and upgrade brass equipment, new uniforms or a nice new set of Pearl drums.

  • We got New Uniforms this year

  • wow this band is just....wow

im in the band that is currently the tennessee small band champions

we are bout 95 people total and just wow

    this band is phenominal

i cant even spell rigt im so star struck

  • my band director thin ks this is the best band in the nation right now. my band has 240 ish i think but we arent nearly as good as this

  • Technically they are, but it changes so much

  • This band is great. Mozart pieces are awesome! How do you all get to be soooo good? Do you dedicate everything to band? Our bands here in NM seem too as well, but we are no where are as good as this!

  • Are you meaning Greenwood only has juniors and seniors? Or Avon? Because Avon has freshmen on up to seniors...we even had an 8th grader last year in the band. Everyone that wants to do marching band is allowed in also.

  • we wish we were this good. im in the greenwood marching woodmen. the only reason they are good is because they have only juniors and seniors in their band. you have to try for band over and over again. if u suk u can tmake it

  • I wish we could be this good

  • One of my favorite openings to a show ever. Though I lose a ton of interest at about 1:30. It just seems like it loses all the pent up energy from the beginning. Don't take offense, though, it takes a lot to keep my interest and the show was executed as well as it could've been I think.

  • Avon is just such a fantastic band. WOW.

  • Comment removed

  • jealous?

  • Funded by the entire city? Uhhh NO! Are you insane? 200 + members...YES and it takes an incredible talent to control 200+ band members on the field. A lot of hard work, ALOT of fundraising and alot of time makes this band AWESOME!!!

  • Actually we are more famous outside of Avon than in our own school, half the kids at our own school don't even realize what we've accomplished.

  • What show is this? I've heard it before but don't remember what it was called.

  • Requiem : Against the Clock

  • @ahsspinner07 You might have heard Nishihara High School Marching Band (Japan) play the music first back in 2004. Smaller ensemble, enclosed field, but there band director was also a product of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, as is Avon's director.

  • WOW

  • I don't get it. Here, in lower Alabama, we do not do shows like these. Our music isn't symphonic in by any means. We do classic rock and pop songs. In fact our 2008 show consisted of Billt Idol, Ozzy Osbourne, Wild Cherry, and so many other artists. Then again, my high school only marches about 78 kids (guard included). lol. Though, small, we're still pretty good. Watch our show. Just type in W S Neal Band and it's the first show (or the show that is eight minutes long)

  • by far one of my all-time favorite shows. up there with the cavaliers 2002 show

  • What a massive marching band! (Especially color guard and brass section!) That is AWESOME!

  • the first thing they played.. was that from harry potter quidditch world cup (video game)? haha i loved that game as a kid!

  • Do I see a little bit of Nisishara in there?

  • i believe u did my friend

  • I wonder how their concert band is.

  • Their concert band is really good too, I believe they win state finals a lot. State Finals is this next weekend, let's see how they do.

  • The best Avon has finished at Concert Band State Finals is second, each of the past two years, according to the State Finals program.

  • yeah, i love it :) lol

  • Is it just me, or is this show better then 08 when they won Nats...

  • im in the guard for avon and i sometimes think that too and i was in both shows...but i guess there was just something about the massive show that made it to Nats standards...and just a fact there were about 8 or 9 freshman in the guard '07 year..we have (well since i have been in it) about 40 guard members...we are really acostombed to having a big guard...

  • @silversax22 I was thinking the same. This show is just breathtakingly amazing.

  • Yalls rifles and guard are amazing. DCI material lol.

  • Amazing lol. There is a school that came to our competition. The beginning of your show music is just like theirs but after that little run, it went into a mallet percussion feature of Requiem For A Dream. Yall would tare that show up if yall played it. Search Upson Lee high

  • amazing

  • That's because the Japanese band kids do music for 8 hours then they go home and practice for another 6. But hard work and a stride for perfection is something that is ingrained in the Japanese psyche.

  • The thing is I much prefer our top 5 nat bands to Nishihara.

  • The other thing is, I find that Japanese shows, albeit perfectly executed and technically intense, tend to lack audience connection, which I guess equates to general effect. (does anyone have a textbook definition of what that category actually judges?) Also, I prefer this arrangement of the Verdi requiem, which is a little less heavy on the traditional brass accents and lets the woodwind runs shine, which, I might add are as clean as bleach.

  • avon marched a great show. they may be rich, and their stuff maybe really melodramatic and showy, but that doesnt mea they didnt pull it off well.

  • It can seem that way, but it's somewhat necessary, at least in terms of funds for instructors for such a large number of marching band members. Incidentally, I prefer Class C and D in ISSMA moreso than A & B because the bands feel more intimate, and the line between style and substance is much clearer.

  • um...thats the Verdi Requiem they start with. For a high school band to pull it off like they did is a result of extremely hard work, and even more so because they're doing the marching work with it.

  • NISHIHARA MARCHING BAND..

    woops, wrong band ;p

BUt video is just as interesting :O!

  • Manzoni Requiem is another name for Verdi's Requiem. It is also correct.

  • i honestly think this show hands down should've won 07 grand nationals.

  • You guys are so good, gosh, I wish I could march in a band this good! Haha.

  • im gonna request my band intructor to play the opener that Nishihara(04-05)and Avon(07) played so the band that im in can win the freaking competitions . . . . LOL just kidding :)

  • it's not just about the songs your performing it's about execution. if you can pull it off do it.

  • I am glad I graduate this year so now when I go up to state, I get to root on Jasper in class B, and stick around to watch the Class A bands later in the day. They are awesome.

  • I saw this show last year at State. It was easily the best show there, and my personal favorite from Avon. I am sad that I did not get to see this year's show, though. It's a pain trying to catch up on A bands when you are in B, and it is also a pain trying to find a ride down to Indy.

Good luck in years to come, Marching Black and Gold!

  • you know what i like about this show?

They arent sitting underneath a sheet for half the show while a little girl does all the work

    Shoulda won, shoulda won

im not a bell fan, well at least not in 07

  • oh my gosh the sheet was over the band for like, 0.0001 seconds! and they still played! and us guard girls don't do all the work, we simply add to the amount of work that the entire band does TOGETHER. dont hate on a show unless you know what its like to work hard for it and be in it.

  • You should have won in 2007 as well.

  • This is THE BEST band out there in terms of visual design. No other High school band can write and execute drill like this.

  • Good job Avon...congrats on winning Grand Nationals!!!

  • good luck at nationals 2nite! i really wanted 2 be there, but tickets were kinda expensive. KICK BUTT!

  • shame how cameras can't reach throughout the whole field

  • this is my favorite show by far <3

  • do you happen to have this year's show?

  • I should have it up in a few days. =Þ

  • yay :)

i loved their show, shame that they didn't win, and i personally ranked ben davis a little higher too, oh well, it was a great year and what's done is done

  • I don't know why, but Avon's State Performances usually have so much more energy compared to their GN appearances. I'm sure they could have taken home the eagle in 07 had they had the same musical intensity they had at State.

  • Anyone else surprised Lake Central got in the top 5?

  • the only thing the same is the fact that we ran off. we were spread across the field whereas they were in tight spacing and they ran off in different counts and we ran off all at the same time.

  • thats why the end of our show it the 'mass exodus'

  • you guys did very well at state this year.

i can not believe you didn't win.

the only thing i could think of would be the "controversial" view of the show.

but beyond that it was amazing.

  • Thank you. Yes the show certainly has a lot of variety to it.

  • me neither. were they jipped or just out-played??

  • we arent really sure what happened. we had a great show. some of the judges just didnt want us to win. whatever. congrats lc.

  • mmk. when's the performance gonna be on youtube? i really want to see it. i haven't seen the full show yet.

  • im not really sure. ive been checking youtube several times a day. ahh anyone else know?

  • I should have it up in a few day. =Þ

  • awesome!

  • LC was clean and sounded good, but I've heard Avon's closer was basically the high point of the evening. It's a mystery.

  • i cant believe they didnt win it this year.

    Lawrence Central finally got it.

  • i hear myself at 5:46!

  • Man, Avon rocks! And don't think I"m just saying that.... I'm a Carroll student. I heard Lacrymosa in there. Loved your show that year. Push was still the best. Good luck this year guys!

  • Excellent! 5 stars! One of my favorite shows (My all-time favorite is Avon in 2006 "Push")

  • that was my favorite to march.. 2007's show is behind.

  • Hey guys, just wanting to say going to start updating this more.

  • TWO WORDS

    Freaking Amazing

  • wow....thats alot of people..

  • Avon is too amazing(saw them last year).lol My freinds and I make jokes about what would happen if our small 60 member band had to go up against Avon.lol yeaa.....doesnt really take much thought to know Avon would kick ass.lol My band has only 40 people(including guard) and we're in class B,and our school is getting so large that by my senior year (I'm a sophomore) we'll be in class A.(hopefully our band will increase in size). If by any chance we end up with Avon... -_- lol

  • and btw this is the first time my band has been in class A and we qualified for regionals again! we'll play at Laffayette Jefferson

  • i play for John Adams HS in South Bend, IN

this is prolly my favorite show of you guys, excellent visuals and great music

im in the drumline, and your drumline is sicknasty! awesome band

  • your drumlines full of jerks! throughin crackers in our bus last week at districts!

  • you havn't seen center grove's drumline then.

  • Actually I have and they are good as well.

  • oh? you mean the drumline that laughed and smiled when they called avon 2nd at state, tell me, what does 7th taste like?

  • WoW i really like this show....i saw you at GN last year and i was impressed!..I wish i was in a big band. Im from Columbus North H.S. Good Luck this year....you'll need it..lol..(jkn)

  • After school practice at Avon must be intense, they never stop moving. I go to Lawrence Central, so I understand completely. I was there too that night, nice show.....you will always be my enemy (nah I'm just playing lol).

  • Oh wow. I saw this at the BOA in Indianapolis and started crying. It's so beautiful. You guys are so dedicated it's amazing. I watched it twice, and it still had the same effect!

  • i go to carmel and good luck this year

  • see attached to valpofan

  • i go to snider we placed 10th this year i had to watch them from the side it was intimidating

  • This is exactly why being in Class A terrifies me.
