Hearing it again takes me back to those good old times. Absolutely Terrific !!! It was on the radio A LOT in the 70s, and part of the tune popped into my mind one day... Now, here it is !!!! Thanks so much for posting it !!!

  • I love this tune! Had the 45 back in the day. It had some airplay in Chicago, but quickly disappeared off of the charts. It's still one of my alltime favorites, and have been able to replace my copy on CD. Thanks for the posting!

  • @mtzimm Thanks for the comment! I'm from complete different culture but this tune somehow pushes secret buttons in me and make me watch in one direction with the look of helpless dreamer... Which feels worm, comfortable and mindblowing at the same time.

Wish in present time someone make this kind of vibes.

    Peace \\//

  • @mtzimm I still have my original 45!

  • I didn't know this band till last week! what a shame...Delicious guitar solo in this song!!! peace and rock'n'roll

  • @razertot

Yes, but Alanis Morrissette doesn't belong in the same mention with the Guess Who, Steppenwolf, Neil Young, and a few of the others you list; certainly not with the Guess Who, who had so many good songs.

  • 100% agree, Alanis Morrissette is not in the same league as Neil Young but looks way better naked!!!

  • @PiggusVomitus

That's right, she had those .... THANGS !!!

  • peace man.

  • the first 1:35 of this song makes me smile

  • Oh...I almost forgot Mandala; Domenic Troiano; Toronto ( with the great Jimmy Fox ); Bruce Cockburn; April Wine; ....

  • Also Grant Smith & The Power; Blood, Sweat, and Tears; Copper Penny; Trooper; Motherlode; BTO; Lighthouse; Chilliwack; Triumph; Saga; Loverboy; Corey Hart; Kim Mitchell; Honeymoon Suite; Glass Tiger; BNL; Tom Cochran; Five Man Electrical Band; The Band; Gino Vannelli, Blue Rodeo, Crash Test Dummies, The Tragically Hip,......

  • @DONGOE

Hey, hey, hey !! You forgot The Diamonds ("Little Darlin") from way back in the early days of R&R !!! They also did "The Stroll".

  • I love Canadian bands...they have been very under-rated in the U.S. !!!

  • these guys kick ass, wow is all i can say

  • i kno u! :)

  • I remember sitting in my mum's corvair, all day with the radio on ( almost killed the battery ) waiting for this song to come on..I finally saved up enough money to by the 45.. One I still have... thanks for sharing this video,, I still love this song ..

  • AAHHHHHH my old high school days! Wish I could go back.

  • Killer Hammond organ btw.

  • Wow such talent. Something you don't find nowadays.

  • Love it man, love it.

  • i found out about this band watching festival express and think they are great truly a canadian classic overlooked band

  • he sings nearly spot on to the recording.

  • the drummer looks like jim james from my morning jacket or vice versa.

  • That's Jerry Mercer (April Wine)

  • Very rare, very genuine!! I was a little kid when I first heard the song in it's Greek version - believe it or not!!:):) It was a big hit in Greece (the original and the cover). I'm so glad I can see now the video

    Thanks a lot:):)

  • Wow, really? What record label was it on in Greece? :\

  • DotChannel, I'm sorry but I don't know which label it was. As I said, I was just a kid and I had no idea about labels those days.... Back in the middle '60s to middle '70's we used to have many Pop groups in Greece. Some of them were bringing foreign songs of that era and putting Greek lyrics on. But the original songs were big hits as well

  • And, DotChannel, if my memory serves me right the Greek group which sang this one was the "Charms" but I have to do a bit or research because it's so long ago

  • If i ever get asked that question on who wants to be a millionaire. . . your in for 10%!!!!

Thanx, i'll lose my keys but remember that to the

    grave.

  • This is awesome to come across this Video. The singer in the yellow T-shirt is my brother-in-law Lou Mitchell who passed away in 2000 with Cancer so this is a beautiful tribute to have of him. Thanks so much for posting.

  • there is anouther video with Mashmakhan includet in "Festival Express"

    I'll upload it soon

    ^_^

  • @acidwear When!!?!?! Great footage.

  • @MrTHCenhanced

    =) thax for reminding me

when my love is calling me, this song plays from my phone and sometimes I wait a bit just to hear "true love" and then pick up and say "never die" to her

  • I don't want to be rude or anything, but I think the singer/bass player is Brian Edwards

  • you're right. the singer is Brian Edwards - my grandfather.

  • You have cool grans!!!

Any offspring taken up music? Just wondering.

  • @kathronholmes i love this band but the singer is brian edwards, there is nobody named lou mitchell in this band unless all the write ups ive read are wrong

  • @kathronholmes I was 13 when this song came out and liked it immediately.

  • @kathronholmes amazing voice...sad to hear hes gone .. this is a greatly underrated canadian classic.. i fuckin love thos song.. sorry for you and your family's loss..tho it aint too well known i assume everyone thats heard this song loves it too.. anyway.. dont know what else to say so im gonna listen to it again before i pass out ..RIP Lou Mitchell..

  • my god, if only we would still come out with this exact style of music

  • Thank you Acidwear for posting this. This is a real pearl from the past but can still be heard on oldies stations from time to time.

  • WOW!....a very unrated band back in those days.....love these guys!....thanx for posting this.

  • Hippy lol

  • good nostaly !!

  • They´re weird and in a way very musically different and almost of a "past era" but OH so very in tune... at the Festival Express. Thank God this footage exist. Hail Montreal.

  • This song rocks!!

  • I use to see this band play in my highschool in the early to mid 70;s in Moncton New Brunswick. I forgot about them and when I looked them up I was blown away. There was another band I liked called Killer Egg reminded me of them as well. has that east coast feel.

  • its Jerry Mercer. I must have been having a bad spelling day. lol

  • Yep, totally. I really dig the extra arrangements and instrumental prowess.

  • Hammond Organ rules the world of psychadelic rock

  • Insightful lyrics! Great song, I was married right after this song came out. I am still married and the lyrics still ring true.

  • Very Rare and pretty cool...LIVE version! This is great, thanks for making my day! Memories, oh my. Thanks a bunch for sharing this!

In Japan, I am not watching video. Provide valuable things. Thanks

  • Jerry Mercier on drums is a show on it's own

  • Kind of got a cool Jewish/Eastern European soul feel if you can dig what I mean.

  • this was a very huge in Israel 1971 !

  • Never caught on in the USA but big in israel as its

roots are yiddish folk music. Tones of eastern european and yiddish (one and same?)

  • @BassBuffett well that's interesting that you say that because the songs reminds me of some of the best American surf rock, like Dick Dale and the Ventures, and those guys were also very influenced by Yiddish and eastern Mediterranean styles of music. Dale's most popular tunes were "Misrilou" and "Hava Nagila." It seems like with this song Mashmakhan found a way to take that surf component out of it but still mix that musical area with the psychedelic beats, very striking tune.

  • Cool, man.

  • Anyone got a bass tab for this?

  • CANADA's rocking good with them.....also with the GUESS WHO from WINNIPEG,of course!

  • Good song from a Montreal group

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • finally i see who they are ! thanx

  • super

  • this song reminds me of winnie the pooh

    : )

    but i love this song

  • Oh well, Cs and Nash are great--but you have to admit these guys were tight, i was playin guitar in 1968 at my junior high in Michigan--and went on to listen and learn good vocals, and a lead axe that still smokes, learned vocals in chorus class in high school, can you play a smokin lead and sing vocal harmonies? 52 years old-i have been doing it for years, walk the walk-talk all ya want my friend! Rock on!

  • The opening is of Gerry Mercer who went on to fame as the still present drummer of April Wine. Check out his April Winev drum solos, especially the one of the solo drum roll with two flaming sticks while waving his arms all over the place. Unbelievable.

  • great song. the transition into the actual song is seamless.

  • One of the first 45's I ever owned. Great to see the band live!

  • I love this performance in the famous Festival Express 1970. I love Mashmakhan and this song is so great!!!

  • Shot at McMahon Stadium Calgary July 4th, 1970.

  • Festival Express 1970 is the Canadian version of Woodstock.
