  • 'MOTHERFATHER, im home!'

  • MOTHERFATHER, im home!

  • I dunno..... this didn't seem very funny to me.

  • HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS A STOOL?

  • I accidently believed that was a phyton sketch, when I searched it here. That's probably one of the greatest honors a sketch can recieve.

  • Truly the greatest story ever told. Happy Holidays everyone!

  • The most painful Mr Show skit ever.

  • Oh man. I hadn't seen this in years and the first time I watched I was BAWLING I was laughing so hard.

  • How they segway from one skit into the next is about as bitchin' as the content itself.

  • Wonder how many times they had to set that up and fall .....repeat ect ect.. to film that.. lol he falls SO Perfectlly.....

  • Nearly impossible to pick 1 single fave Mr.Show sketch but when asked I always think of this one. Greatness.

  • Hysterical!

  • hahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • i laughed so hard. its so funny to watch this old clips

  • epic bread

  • Fuck Mt. Everest, tell us about when you fell and knocked over the thimbles!

  • @kethe

    Fuckin' A

  • HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS A STOOL?

  • Proof than inane repetition is one of the funniest things in the world. Richard Herring would love this.

  • definition of insanity:

doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

  • @Iamwhomadewho yes, because he knocked down the thimble cases intentionally each time.

  • @scandiumtrioxide

no i mean telling the story even though he knew he would end up falling

  • This made me practically pee my pants the first time I saw it. The physical humor is brilliant. Contrast his natural looking falls -- everyone one of them -- to the fall in the silent movie version.

  • This show was so ahead of its time.

  • I was watching this late one night as a kid, and was not supposed to be up watching tv. I was laughing so hard I woke my mom and dad up, totally worth it.

  • NO! no one help him!

  • @oam462 funniest line in this!

  • I think the reason this skit is so funny because he falls the EXACT SAME WAY EVERY TIME! hahahaha you could just edit it and have it be the same clip of him falling over and over because because you wouldn/'t be able to tell it was edited. hahahah

  • this skit brings back memories... amber.

  • this made me LOL for minutes

  • My favorite sketch!

  • The first time I saw this, it was ridiculous how hard I laughed.

  • @ejatz

Me too. I totally didn't expect to laugh that hard.

  • I love how he father shoves his wife at 3:47

  • alternate pressing 3 and 5 for the short version of the story

  • They said it took hours to put the thimbles back

  • From the legendary mid-90's sketch comedy HBO series "Mr Show," starring David Cross and Bob Odenkirk.

  • Greatest pratfall of all time.

  • it's a wonder how he made it to the top of Everest with that kind of grace

  • @irvingcsaltzburg HE THOUGHT IT WAS A STOOL, ALRIGHT!

  • Nah.

  • THREE TIMES! HE DID IT THREE TIMES! YOU WEREN'T THERE!

  • God, Jay Johnston is such an underrated performer. He's so brilliant in this.

  • HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS A STOOL?! IDIOT!

also NO! NO ONE HELP HIM!

best sketch in any sketch comedy show ever

  • HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS A STOOL?! IDIOT!

also NO! NO ONE HELP HIM!

best sketch in any sketch comedy show ever

  • This is the best video on youtube.

  • This was the first episode I ever saw. I was up late secretly watching HBO cause I wasn't allowed and I was laughing so hard I had to turn the tv off because I was either going to pee my pants or burst into way too loud laughter.

  • Only Mr. Show could make someone repeatedly falling over funny.

  • You'd think they would move the drink cart at least the second time that happened.

  • I want to hear a funny story!

  • This has to be the funniest thing I've ever watched...

  • I fucking love this show. I wish there were more episodes.

  • I love how he manages to get his leg somehow, lodged into the cart when he falls.

  • seriously one of the simplest concepts but the funniest thing i have ever seen

  • This is genius comedy - to see the silent film version at the end is just - I can't even describe it, it's so unbelievably funny...

  • Holy motherfucking shit. I just cried my eyes out laughing so hard at this. Just imagine how hard it is to put back all those little thimbles. LOL!

  • jay johnston is incredible

  • 3:45

  • My favorite part is at 4:40 when the mother looks inconsolable (sp?)

  • THREE TIMES!!

  • Three times!

  • Did someone actually call "Fake" on a Mr.Show bit? Lol! It's sketch comedy silly goose! It's not supposed to be realistic.... at all really! like 90% of sketch comedy is based on ridiculous hyperbole!

  • NO ONE HELP HIM!

  • Whatta boob!

  • That cart really was put in a bad spot. hahahhaha

  • Best fall in the history of film.

  • His brother is David Cross. I want my brother to be David Cross.

  • This is why7 I love Mr. Show. Funny in many different ways and on many different levels. A man that climbs Mt. Everest yet can't stop stumbling into a thimble collection over and over again. Brilliant!

  • absolute favorite mr show sketch. just fantastic.

  • fake.

  • I like when the dad gets mad. "No one help him! Let Thomas do it himself this time!"

  • its so funny because each time it becomes more and more tragic to the parents

  • If you don't laugh, sue me.

  • notice by 4:31 the laughter is so reduced; the crowd had to wait for them to reset the thimbles every time he knocked them down.

  • perfect physical comedy

  • the way he falls into it is genius.

  • "3 times, you weren't here!" >:o

  • the story of the story of the story of everest. lmao

  • i laughed out my bong hit when he fell the first time oh man lol

  • Love David's childlike line reading: "I want to hear a funny story!" and "Ho, ho, ho! So that's what you did!"

  • When I was like 17 I came home late at night super high and watched this episode, and seriously cried laughing the entire time.

  • Simple premise executed brilliantly.

  • @houou100 The point is that in the repetition, it goes from being funny, to not funny, then back to funny again. I've heard it called the Sideshow Bob effect.

  • @houou100 it wouldn't be as funny if it was condensed into 2 minutes

  • okie that was fucking funny!!

  • its seems so dumb, but it just gets funnier and funnier

  • "HOW COULD YOU THINK THAT THIS WAS A STOOL? IDIOT!" Best Bob scream ever.

  • Lmao! He couldn't fall more perfectly.

  • I wonder how Jay Johnston kept from hurting himself. That's a good way to break your coxis.

  • I want to hear a funny story!

  • fake.

  • The part that kills me the most is that after the sixth time the parents just look sad and scared.

  • Fucking hysterical. I saw this when i was 13 when this came out, i own the dvd too but i laugh so hard it hurts every time he falls lol. 3 falls-funny, 5 falls=brilliant

  • it's gotten so bad that i don't even need to watch this vid anymore. my flash is turned off. i come here, read the title, look at the comments, and start laughing my ass off again.

first time i saw this (on the DVD, with no warning), i almost died. true story. couldn't breathe.

  • @2ndAsstJizzMopper

    just happened to me.

  • Bwahahahaha! I forgot how ridiculous this sketch was!

    Ha!

  • my favorite mr show sketch

  • the funniest thing about this sketch is that it was filmed in front of a studio audience.

  • ...I cannot explain why this is funny. Its the same basic joke again and again...yet I still laugh out loud at it XD

  • Lost in the clip: It took them 20 minutes to re-set the thimbles between takes. It took nearly 2 hours to film.

You can hear the audience turn against them towards the end.

  • @bignz721 And you know this how? I call bullshit.

  • @MechaJiggabooJones maybe it's in the audio commentary on dvds? also, for the first 5:30, they are doing this sketch live in the studio (ie. not filmed in advance and it's shown on the in-studio tv), so it's likely that they did need to continuously fix the thimbles.

  • @MechaJiggabooJones The DVD commentaries. The book. The fact that there are a billion thimbles to be picked up.

  • @bignz721

One of the few advantages of NOT watching it live.

  • it's the repetition... it get's absurd after a while.

  • Might be the funniest Mr Show.

  • davids laugh at 2:14 is so funny.

  • Like an SNL skit, but funny.

  • exactly!

  • 3:48 NOOOOO!!!!!!

  • goddamn genius

  • Us UK residents are given such a fair representation of US humour: 'Friends' on a constant daytime loop, 'Arrested Development' at 11.30pm, sometimes 12, sometimes 1.30. We got 'Kids In The Hall' at about 11.30pm about 12 years ago though...whoops, Canadian.

And this- never. Channel commisioners should hang!

  • arh, badd spelingz

  • You had Big Train during the same period in the 90s. We in the US didn't get that. I blame Comedy Central and HBO. They could have easily bought the rights to show it here.

Mr. Show was on premium cable late on Friday nights. Hardly anyone in the US saw it, either, while it was on the air.

  • That applies to Big Train too! It's an obscure reference to most British people. Kiss me, Youtube, kiss me!

  • Friends makes me think you're being sarcastic, but Arrested Development and Kids in the Hall are both pretty good, from what I've seen.

  • Haha, my reference to Friends was in terms of the primetime availability of Friends compared to the late-night showings of the others, I was not suggesting parity in comedic quality. I accept I didn't make that clear, sorry. I do that a lot...

  • you know they sell the entire collection of mr show for about 50 bucks? worth picking up for sure. i was watching this show when it was on the air. my friend turned me onto it. i think my favorite sketch is the preacher who drops vulgarities. this is mostly unrelated but feel free to comment on my song and philosophy vids

  • This is hilarious.

  • You are the worst person on planet earth.

  • I realize that the gist of what this sketch is would sound pretty dumb, but I have never laughed so hard at anything else in my entire life. I could watch this a million times and every time I'm crying from laughter. It must be the comedic timing, or else I'm just a goofy buffoon who loves physical humor. Oh, god this is my drugs!!

  • Yeah this sketch woudn't read as funny on paper:

  • @MichaelMullowney I am in 100% agreement with you. I lost my shit the first time I watched it. Goes beyond the point and then some.

  • @MichaelMullowney I'm not even sure why it;s funny. But some of their scetches make le laugh to tears. This and the mustardayonaise

  • @MichaelMullowney It's meant to be over the top.

  • I wish HBO could've saved some of that airtime they now have for "TRUE BLOOD" (yet another mediocre vampire pop culture shitstain soon to evaporate from the air) for some more MR. SHOW. There would have been less stress and we could have been given so much more. The final season is the real capper. But oh well. At least we got ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT.

  • watched true blood for the first time yesterday, so horrible, but i guess teens need something to watch. This sketch proves that Jay Johnston rules.

  • This is the best thing in the world

  • so funny

  • This is the sketch that got me into Mr. Show. The first time I saw it, I played it over and over again. I watched it at least 50 times. Hilarious.

the best is when he's cleaning up, putting the last thimble on the shelf, and he says, "There!"...then immediately flings himself into the wall.

    Genius.

But I thought it was a stool!!

  • its soo stupid yet so funny!

  • odenkirk is truly amazing

  • 3:28 its too funny when bobs characters explode in a sketch

  • I only watch this show high.

  • let him do it himself!

  • Oh man i love this sketch!

  • yeah but it happens six times, which is why it wraps around and becomes AWESOME again.

put that in your pipe and smoke it.

  • I get it! He said SMOKE

  • the guy falling down isn't exactly supposed to be the funny part, it's the reactions of the others.

  • haha you dont get it ha your stupid

  • still funny

  • The best part was when he fell into the thimble collection...

  • totally!

  • oh damn I missed that part

  • best comedy duo of our generation, most underrated as well.

  • Can't believe it's been so many years since I first saw this. I was a teenager and I'm pretty sure I pissed myself. It still cracks me up.

  • I like the part where he fell.

  • lol. that was hilarious

  • "NO! Let Thomas do it himself this time!"

  • Comment removed

  • love how he falls -_-

  • Cursed by his own hubris.

  • This makes me cey!! It is so funny!!

  • NO! NO ONE HELP HIM!

  • Oh god, I do love this sketch.

    Whatta boob!

  • With flattened hands, he can't even use thimbles! That's irony for you!

  • Whatta boob!

  • one of my favs!

  • I too climbed mount everest...what a story indeed! The wind was howling, the snow was violent, the treacherous ascent began and my sherpa guide Talkran turned to me...........

  • Jay Johnson picks up where John Cleese left of (at least on this show)

  • Jay Johnston was always my favorite non-Bob & David cast member. The guy is so damn funny.

  • no kidding, the guys fantastic

  • he's especially great in the Shoecourt interview sketch!!

  • Mr.Show is totally fucking underated

  • fairsley market, cockring warehouse, and this. Fuckin classic!!!!

  • help me out -- sampson?

  • I have watched this shit over and over and everytime it gets funnier. When his mom and pops started ignoring him after da 90th fall is fucking classic

  • Wow, it's true, you do a gag enuf times and becomes a laugh riot. I think i peed by the time he fell the fifth time.
