this is nothing else music then final fantasy V boss music... and square enix make final fantasy too... and the game it self is final fantasy in mario version...
The first time I stumbled upon this battle, I had a huge stockpile of rock candies and the like. I spammed the hell out of them since I wasn't really going to use them on anything else.
When I encountered this boss for the first time, I was also playing through FF4 at the same time frame. I was about halfway through the battle, losing as that's what happens the first time you fight Culex (dreadfully unprepared) before I realized the boss music was all wrong. I was so hyped up about the music, I didn't even care that I lost.
@cabspir And Paper Mario 1 and 2 are excellent games, but not the sequel we wanted. They were completely different from SMRPG in almost every aspect. When people say they want a sequel to SMRPG, they mean an isometric view, 3 party members, weapon and armor upgrading, and all that good stuff we loved about SMRPG. I, of course, include myself in that group. Loved PM, but want a real sequel to SMRPG, ya?

@04deoxys Because it's made by the same developer who made the Final Fantasy games. It's essentially a nod to people who have played other Squaresoft/Enix games (they weren't Square-Enix at the time), which were mostly just Final Fantasy titles at the time.

It took me til a year ago to figure out what the hell the Crystal Quartz did... and I've had the game for over 10 years now. Still nothing beats FF4 music in a Mario game.
First time I beat Culex, I knew nothing about the Lazy Shells and I beat him, took a very long time too. It wasn't until years later when I felt the urge to play again that I discovered the Lazy Shells on my own. Felt so different fighting Culex with them.
@silverfan2k The People who made Final Fantasy, decided to make a game with nintendo, though not the very most successful idea. I guess they wanted their boss in it.
If you beat Culex, you obtain an item which you clearly no longer need because you beat Culex.

@spacekamen Yeah? to have the fiasco of the recipe? no way Super Mario RPG was a good game but not for the cooperation between Square and Nintendo (a money problem)

@spacekamen Yeah, that's a good point! Just because Square isn't a first or second party of Nintendo doesn't mean they still can't do stuff for them! If they can make Mario Hoops 3-on-3 and Sports Mix, then they can make Super Mario RPG 2! Fun Fact: Paper Mario was actually called Super Mario RPG 2 at one point. But was changed to Paper Mario for copyright.

It took me til a year ago to figure out what the hell the Crystal Quartz did... and I've had the game for over 10 years now. Still nothing beats FF4 music in a Mario game.

First time I beat Culex, I knew nothing about the Lazy Shells and I beat him, took a very long time too. It wasn't until years later when I felt the urge to play again that I discovered the Lazy Shells on my own. Felt so different fighting Culex with them.
