  • "Accomplished what it wanted to do"? Well it was one of the best selling games of the system but that doesn't mean it's good. Back then there were no reviews so people didn't know which games were good. Since the E.T. movie was such a big hit people expected the same for the game. And the sells it made STILL weren't enough! Plus, people would return it back to the stores asking for a refund. This is why gamers today shouldn't complain about bad games. This is the real definition of "bad".

  • i don't get it ._____.

  • Considering this was made in 6 weeks in 1983... it... well...

  • whats so bad about the game?

  • i love to hate that game

  • i dont understand everything

  • haha that was fucking hilarious! i have no idea what i just witnessed.

  • Great game back then. To bad spoiled kids of today are to stupid to realize that there would be no video games of today if it wasn't for this and other games like it. Go suck on your bottle. MORONS.

  • If this game were treated the way modern publishing houses create games, the Great Video Game Crash may never have happened, and some landfill out in the middle of New Mexico could be full of Members Only jackets and disco music.

  • What the eff is going on?

  • Wow, there's alot of people who hate this game just because it's politically correct to do so. Don't get me wrong- games not great- (the ditchs are horrible), but it's not as bad as todays gamer magazines make it to be. I actually remember enjoying this game as a kid somehow (although only on easy).

  • Glad to see the ending O_o...ha!!

Wow good job! but totally unnecessary

  • this is shit!

  • @ZeR0Zx01 . That what your mother said the first time she laid eyes on you.

  • When they tried for more advanced designs they often ran into complications. It helped when designers were able to sort of let the player figure things out on their own a bit, or at least have enough text to explain it. There were other 2600 games with a bunch of weird symbols that you had to read the instructions to know what they did, and they didn't do that well, either. In a way this game was ahead of its time, but the collision detection on the holes is diabolical.

  • wtf just happened?

  • E.T! All the fun of playing a 1 minute game that's full of glitches that you payed $40 for!

  • Only internet sheep seem to hate this game.

  • If you like this game because you want to be different, it has to be the only reason anyone would like it. When this game was released and people began hating it, the sheep were still being led by television and not the internet.

  • @S0CKet2me "If you like this game because you want to be different, it has to be the only reason anyone would like it." You, my friend are small minded. I can name games infinitely worse for the 2600 such as Pac-Man, Starfox, Karate, and Spiderdroid. At least all the characters in the game are multi-colored with good animation. Not to mention that the sounds effects are very good too. The gameplay is good as well.

  • KILL THIS WITH FIRE!

  • i got that virus once in my computer it sucks ass!!!!

  • i dont.... i mean..i cant....WHAT??!!!... that was the most fantastic thing ive ever seen!!!! :D

  • As a kid, I liked the E.T. game. As an adult, well, it has nostalgic value. I know a lot of people hate this game but believe it or not, there are worse games out there. This is the Atari, after all. But as far as bad Atari games go, I wouldn't count out Pac-Man. It's a prime example of how to screw up Pac-Man and I didn't think it was possible.

  • i think i just got cancer watching this....

  • LMFAO you just wasted 1:21 seconds of your life

  • that's it? thats the end of the game?

  • well afterall it has a end. how many atari 2600 games have one?

  • I think about 3 games had endings.....

    E.T Pitfall, and Crystal castles.

But I believe E.T was the first.

  • @metal1531 Adventure had an ending... that was made in 1979. It had possibly the first easter egg too.

  • i dont see such a big problem with et. its just an old school game and not much worse then other atari game. i even know alot atari or later games which are worse. u just need to know what to do. and u dont need to run thorugh so fast cause u also can increase your score with the candy dots. so i dont see the big deal. doesnt look so bad for an atari 2600 game. besides its one of the best selling games for the 2600

  • yeah best selling game cuz ya know other games had millions of shit copies burried in a giant ditch in new mexico

  • when they melted them and dumbed them there also where copys of pac-man donkey kong and other games with them. they still sold 1.6 million copys. thats the reason why they are still so many copies out there. its still not a bad game. you just need to know how to play it.

  • im to scared to download this in case i turn into a pycho

  • well, at least 1 person in the world understands this piece o' shit game

  • they need to put this game on psn and xbox live with hd graphics lol

  • :D rofl

  • a game so crappy u can beat it in less than 2 minutes. piece of shit game

  • By that logic Donkey Kong, Myst, and Masters of Orion 2 were even worse games than ET and Super Mario Bros is a little under 4 times as good.

  • @lilked3 indeed, but you have to consider when it was made...a game like...uncharted 2 back then would've been to much to handle ^^

  • @lilked3 its NOT a shit game. only because AVGN says? simon says eh? comon . I loved that game as a kid. and I spit at you for not complying.

  • Wtf, who the hell would be ballsy enough to do that infront of me? They'd get there atari fucked up aswell as the game.

  • how is this worse than most atari games?

  • ...WTF did I just see?

  • was that the ending of the game?

  • ET go to home~

  • I love this game

  • Worst game ever.

  • was that the whole game

  • o god im using an headphone these sounds make my ear go crazy ARGH

  • I have no idea what is going on right now.

  • this game was made by a teenager in his garage and it took him about.....10 minutes to make, he only used a toothpick, some dog fur and some belly button lint.

  • who the fuck made this game?

  • ET was a massive widespread success, and they assumed that the famous movie would cause the game to sell well. They manufactured hundreds and thousands of useless copies. Not only that, the game itself was made by one designer in four weeks.

  • i wanna see avgn review this

  • i feel like im dead in side

  • the sound effects are horrible!!!

  • the sound alone makes me want to end my life

  • What a bad ending for the suffering.

  • when i played this pixelated piece of shit i got diarhea for a week.

  • OMG, you actually played this piece of shit until you figured it out?? All you do is collect the pieces of a phone and that's it.

  • You also have to find the phone home tile and then the landing zone tile while avoiding the agent until you've phoned home. If you are going for high score you also need to collect Reeses and give them to Elliot.

  • PICK A CHAINSAW TO BEAT THAT CRAPPY GAMER EVER!!!!!

or find other waaay coolest method:

1- buy some dynamites bomb remote..

2- return home and pick that crappy ET game

3- go to the abandoned place

4-place explosive weapons u bought onto the catridge.

    5- DETONATE THEM

6- have FUN WATCHING GO BOOM.

  • @hydrolisk1792 "OMG, you actually played this piece of shit until you figured it out??"

I think it's funny that NOBODY reads the manual apparently.

Every game is entirely explained in the manual unless you have an exceptionally bad game, and even though ET was a terrible game, the manual explained the whole damned thing.

  • @fuzzywzhe LOL, yeah :) Sorry, I love atari :)

  • @hydrolisk1792 the game is quite good

  • @shairaptor Moving on. . .

  • @hydrolisk1792 no really, I had much fun as a kid. From todays standpoint, it's as shitty (cheesy) as most Atari 2600 games where :D

  • @shairaptor p.s. sorry, were not where

  • @shairaptor Lol, that is funny, I still play Atary now adays!! It is funny that the console and games have outlasted a few of my xbox 360's. Something is wrong there . . .

  • @hydrolisk1792 LOL exactly! I also prefer some Atari games over todays PC and console games :-)

  • @shairaptor Lol, yeah, nothing can compair.

  • @hydrolisk1792 yessir! :-)

  • how the hell did you work this game out to even attempt a speed run lol

  • I read the manual.

  • This is like my favorite game ever

  • same here.

  • same as same

  • It's a masterpiece I will love till I die.

  • I tjink an apple is as ecciting as this game when i played it. This game is at the same level as an apple

  • Wtf so now you're using hax to beat ET even. You've ruined so many games wiht ur fake speed runs when will you stop

  • OMG WTF BBQ HAX!!!11!

Seriously, it doesn't look too hard once you know what to do and how to do it.

And how do you ruin a crappy game?

Also, please tell me what "wiht" means.

  • I want 1 minute and 39 seconds of my life back.

  • WOW!

  • wait, the detective didn't take his reese's pieces at the end; i thought they were only used to bribe him and he took them each time :\

  • rofl ok ty

  • i.....ummmmmmmmmmm.......kinda.....didnt get it

    was that the ending?

  • Yes, that was the ending, although once you've beaten it once the game starts over again. It's an Atari 2600 game. Most of them didn't even have endings.

  • That ending sure does answer all the questions.

    hahaha

  • Now this looks like a quality game. Breathtaking visuals, powerful soundtrack, and stellar gameplay. Pure genius.

  • @Jinsek I think they took all the RAM up in the beautiful (for Atari & that era) title credits when you turned the game on. The rest of the game was an afterthought! lol. Speaking of weird games, has anyone seen a speed run of Atari's Raiders of the lost ark? Same sort of deal there too.

  • @Jinsek ya breathtaking cause i exhale as i turn my head away

  • wasn't this game rumored to be in stores one day and went off theshelves the next day cuz it was so bad?

  • I was less than a year old when it came out, but was still able to get my hands on it roughly 5 years later. There are a lot of rumors about this game which are untrue, but funny and realistic. According to Wikipedia it was actually the 8th-best-selling game for Atari 2600, probably because return policies weren't as lenient back then.

  • lol. my friend said that the copies were rumored to have been sent to a dump in nevada. made me laugh.

  • It wasn't Nevada, it was New Mexico. It wasn't so much of a dump as a tomb, imnsho, for what is considered to be the worst game on earth...

I think think they should've melted the carts down and turned them into a statue instead of burying them, but hey, that's me...

on topic, that's a rather good run of it... sadly, if you haven't played it before, or won't read the book, you probably have no idea what's going on...

  • Nice
