RIght after the month of EL Nino storms back in 96-ish? 97-ish? Sullivan Canyon was sweet. Great drops, washouts, ruts. The trail was completely different. Then the DWP took a dozer up the trail and wiped it out.
any of you tried Sycamore State Park, on the west side of these SM mountains??? theres PLENTY of trails, been there probably 100's of times mountain biking.... Guadalasca Trail downhill seems better than this one... I got some videos of this area on my page, SHAKY because I have no helmet cam!
@gamrkidd Yup. One of my other videos is the Wood Canyon Vista Trail (aka Backbone Trail) which is in Sycamore State Park. I haven't explored that area much since it's a bit further drive but I do plan to go back and ride some of the other trails. I haven't been down Guadalasca Trail but comparing Wood Canyon and Sullivan Canyon (before it was bulldozed), Sullivan was more fun overall. I'll make sure to give Guadalasca Trail a try. See you on the trails.
This is my backyard. I ride this trail every week. Been riding it for 12 years. I've actually wound up in the hospital because of this trail. Good times.
I say climb it to get the lay of the land and then fly down. Take the 405 to Sunset. Go west. At Mandeville (3 miles) turn right. First left is Westridge. Wind up hill to Bayless. Turn left, park on Bayless. Get your stuff together and peddle down Bayless until Queensferry - left. Half a block and there's a gate you go around, head down hill and you're at the beginning of trail going right. 4.5 miles of heaven (tough last 1 mile, but worth it.) Google map Westridge Rd 90049 to see the layout.
Hey, I'm a good guy and all, but there aren't any one-way trails in the Santa Monicas and I'm not giving up one of my favorite climb.... Sorry 'bout that.
We always ride up. Getting to the top of this trail still requires some pedaling from where the car would be parked. Once you get there it's all downhill. But of course you'll have to get back to the car somehow. ;)

Ride up the fire road so you're not in the way of everybody coming down.
