I think they both have about the same coil space. I know our 84 Trane has a double layer coil with 2 fans!!! It is also 5 tons and is a package unit

Those old Rheem units would have lasted longer than the new ones. And they are most likely 12 seer, not 10.

@MattRisinger I'm not certain about coil size but the new outdoor unit was huge compared to the old one.
