  • acording to A. L. Webber this is a remake of the chaney version

  • this movie blows, give me the hammer version, hebet lom

  • @cubsfaninstlouis: that Is the problem w the world today. People love modern, boring music, sung by breathy voices, but despise beautiful music, sung by strong, rich voices. Especially the opera Marta.

  • good movie but can't live up to the lon chaney version. this one seemed more like a romance while the 1925 film was much more of a horror film.

  • like mr burns would say, interesting....

  • I love this movie. It is better than the Lloyd -Weber musical. I love that opera Martha which is sung by Nelson Eddy at the opening It is the greatest comic opera. Unfortunately, it is not popular today.

  • The music in this version is simply delightful!

  • This is my favorite Film Version of the Phantom of the Opera.

  • well....atleast it's in color :) lol

  • Lovely version i love the orchrestra at the beginning

  • Truly a fantastic film. Even though it is a remake, it is a good one, and it still contains that eerie Universal horror.

  • today's my phantom day.

    I watched 1990's today

    I'm watching this one today

I'm watching 1925's, 1998's and 2004's today as well (: phantom day FTW! ^-^ (and i might finish the book for the 2nd time today :P)

  • @xJoycexVampirex Love them all too :D 1990 is my favorite, next to the book of course :D which I have read at LEAST 10 times...masterpiece :)

  • @JdeppHatter17

I like Erik's hesitation with Christine in 1990's. I like how he can have a conversation and relationships with people in that one.

    I love the book(:

  • @xJoycexVampirex Yeah..:cuddly Erik" as some have called him haha. The singing is great too..after watching them sing the trio in Faust and looking up the translation makes me want to learn french :)

  • @JdeppHatter17 haha cuddly(:

i'm actually in french right now and i still have nooo clue what they're saying XD

  • I really love this movie, especially the orchestra at 1:22 through 6:28. The singing and the music are so great, a pity that you can't find music like that in movies these days

  • Wasnt the set used originally for the 1925 Silent Film Version of Phantom of the Opera starring the Man of a Thousand Faces Lon Chaney ?

  • @WDI2008: I think so.

  • @WDI2008 Yes it is, although they white-washed it.

  • @WDI2008 YES SOUNDSTAGE I THINK 20 OR 28 I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TORN DOWN BUT THEY WERE AFRAID BECAUSE SOME THINK ITS STILL HAUNTED BY LON CHANEY GHOST

  • Omg, thank you so much for uploading this!!! I've been searching everywhere for it, on DVD, on other websites... I seriously love you so much for doing this!!

  • hummm... why are the character's last names different?!?!?! and why is Raoul an inpecteur intead of a viscount!!! this is like so different compared with the book itself!!! personaly i don't understand why this movie is called an ADAPTATION! anyway it's cool to see how old movies like this one were made! thanks for the videos!

  • Yeah, it's a bit weird how they change the names so much. That said, they do that in most of the movie versions.

    And you're welcome! :D

  • @LerouxsPhantom True -- just look at the all the different Dracula adaptations. They always switch characters or even composite them. This movie is great, by the way, thank you for posting it!

  • "Based on" does not mean "adapted from." Check the credits at the beginning. More or less, it draws inspiration from the original story, but takes it in a very different direction (and an interesting one for being made when Universal wasn't in the habit of taking any risks). Of course, this all depends on your interpretation of the film. I would consider it the most interesting story in the Universal monster line-up.

  • I agree. I think that if all the Phantom films followed the same plot and had the same interpretation of Erik, it would be pretty boring (and there would be no point of them adapting it so often).

  • It is a little higher than on my DVD copy, but its not that bad. I LOVE Nelson Eddy, btw. :D

  • @EmilyGreene1984: Glad to hear it's not that bad. It sounds okay to me, but I was wondering where these comments were coming from. :S Me too! :D

  • Thank you so much for posting this! The sound is perfect for me, it doesnst sound like chipmunks at all. Thank you once again!

  • to fast sound like munchkins

  • Sounds like a PAL transfer, wot? Edgar Barrier sounds like a chipmunk.
