Embedded software developers will like lightweight solutions, such as older Ubuntu Karmic Kaola and earlier, some of those distributions came with XFCE. It's quite powerful indeed, supports animated background, very handy with some Mac style laucher bar, or the Netbook Starter, ... For those who own this small bit, gOS 7.10 Ubuntu, or MoonOS 8.10 Ubuntu, both not only look great, but also run fast on Pent-III memory as low as 64MB, and please replace this noisy hdd with an ATA SD-Card Adapter...
@netwho07 Transmeta Crusoe ... I have a lifebook P1120 with a TM5800 crusoe 800Mhz and radeon graphics (like half a notch up from rage 128 graphics lol) runs Gentoo Linux, XP and Haiku :)
I have Windows 7 Starter (Not so good) on a Toshiba Libretto 100CT.It has Windows Vista BootScreen so I thought it was Windows Vista,so I said to the man.He says:"It is actually Windows 7.Please wait for a while." and it was!
First time I didn´t read all your text and was wondering how much faster it is. Win 7 is too slow on the C1VE, see my video about the comparison to W2K and XP
@All: Obviosely this is not native ;-). Yes the carouse chip was one of these power saving - like sped step - type of CPU's. Linus Torvald was one of the heads behind this company.... hmm however I had a hard time to get Windows XP stripped down to run smoothly (with 192MB) on that device. It came with Millennium pre-installed. After XP worked I just installed the Citrix Online Plugin and connected to my hosted windows 7 dekstop (VDI).
I just found an old magazine which reffered to Transmeta's Crusoe, and I remember that story. Crusoe was a CPU that supposed to be targeting internet applications, supposed to save power, and propably these netbooks of that era were the anchestors of the modern netbooks. There were mini notebooks. Unfortunately Crusoe failed form establishing and dissappeared from the market, today almost none remembers that story except if he reads an old article or PC hisotry. So Crusoe can run Windows 7 I see

Hmmm... I recommend using the Lite version; it's more easier on older machines.

This is the future of computing. Carry a small, convenient, low-power device that simply relays info to and from a large, powerful mainframe.
