  • Yes, you are right. Thanks for your comments.

    MA

  • Dietrich, human kind is in debt with you, You deserve to be known about your extraordinary genius. Bravo !!

  • The part just after 1:12 reminds of a pop-song that I cannot quite put my finger on.

  • BuxWV?

  • If you want to know where J S Bach learned to play the organ, this is it.

  • @turbonelli You are right. I also think that a lot of Bach's compositions such as Passacaglia are heavily influenced by his visit to Buxtehude. Do we have a picture of Buxtehude's daughter who Bach did not agree to marry.

  • @mahmadm14 He had 7 daughters (poor man) and the one offered to JSB was apparently neither young, beautiful nor bright! There could easily be a picture of the daughters in a museum or private collection somewhere, but i doubt you'd find it on the net.

  • @turbonelli Thanks for this info. I did not know that Buxtehude had 7 daughters.

If JSB rejected the daughter, then i do not think we are missing much.

    Kind regards

  • @mahmadm14

The custom back then was to either marry the daughter of the retiring music director. Buxtehude's daughter was almost twice Bach's age putting her in her early forties. Earlier, Handel & Mattheson had traveled to Lubeck to apply for the same position but when they realized that marrying Buxtehude's old maid daughter was part pf the bargain, they left.
