  • There only one master off guitar. MARK KNOPFLER!!!!!!

He is the very best of all!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Edge, Kirk Hammett, Keith Richards, Stevie Ray Vaughan: all great guitarists. But, Mark Knopfler is the best of all. Really nice solo playing style. Awesome.

  • I thought that the Wembley version of Tunnel of Love 85-86 was the best but this one is beating it. No words to describe what his being channeled. This is just so beautiful

  • Unbelievable, unbeatable, incredible...and, oh yeah, tremendous.

  • Thank you Mark!

  • Mark Knopfler = God

  • immortal

  • Great!!!!!! I love the solo in the studio version. This one as well. What a fantastic guitar player.

  • MK - Genius!

  • Those Marc Knopffler's are pretty nice pants !!!

    LOL

"COME ON AN D TAKE THE LOW RIDE WITH ME GIRL!!!"

  • unreal. x

  • I think is 1986, during the brothers in arms world tour. You can tell by Mark's guitar and clothing and also by Jack Sonni being in the band...

  • Mark Knopfler's music is totally imortal!!!

  • Which year was this?

  • I think Mark missed in 7.17. It sounded ok anyway

  • MARK 1, AND THE ONLY 1, EVER.

  • Another great solo of Mark. I like his style like no other.

And you can seach on youtube, but none of his solo's are the same. Does he just improvise when he plays?

    That's a nice idea ...

  • From about 4:15 on it is truly some of the most inspiring music I have ever heard...Wonderful.

  • Definitely the best guitarist on earth. Itd be awesome if dire straits reformed and toured the world, but every concert would be sold out

  • Fucking epic. Knopfler is such a badass.

  • I just learned to play this. Very hard, but no-one in the world can play anything ike the masterfull Mark Knopfler. Is there a video on here of Telegraph Road from the Alchemy album?

  • Normally I don't like the 80ìes but this is a song, that drives me into another land and this Video is a picture of that - I must tell, there was a video better than this - althogh everything I must tell - this song (or piece of music) is a masterpiece at all - I don't can find another description!

    By my name Lilly!

  • So unique!

  • Brilliant! Enough said.

  • Ahhh to be able to give a performance like that...well maybe next lifetime....pure genius!

  • Mark Knopfler is a music genius :D

  • Heh guys they are f..king great! Both 1985 or Alchemy... Life and music is a constantly changing process. But things come around again like fashion, food fads, wars and famines. Remember what Dire Straits did in 1986? Same stuff is happening still. Seen the starving kids in Ethiopia yet? Both north and south areas are this time hit by drought. Mark Knopfler was one of the leaders in fund-raising 25 years ago. Ideas anyone? Or do you just want to log in to a good song and block out the rest?

  • I'll just take the good song thanks. Oh and maybe some fries as well.

  • To bnopler: that was your answer a year ago...Is the credit crunch treating you well?...

  • Yes thanks. I'm doing better than ever. Thanks for your kind enquiry.

  • drummer is from other galaxy...fantastic...

  • MK fronts and deserves every ounce of praise but the rest of the guys just kill it, too. A+

  • alchemy was 1984, this one was in sydney 1986. there were not 10 years between this! but anyway, this one is the very best of all tunnel of love-solos.

  • Love the alchemy version but the solo in this one for me is matured, Richer, Fuller, Refined. But Mark was probably 10 years older when he did this one.. a different stage of life.

  • For me also this is the best version of this song. It´s simply perfect. Strenght and elegance.

  • I went to about 4 of these Sydney concerts. Camped out overnight about 6 months ahead of the concerts just to get the tickets. At the time I didn't like this version of the song. Now I must admit that the guitar solo is one of his best. I think I will pull out my 2 schecters ( red strat and sunburst) and start learning again.

  • this is there best,i still prefer the studio version,it has a little more punch, the outro solo is amazing to say the least, incredible guitar player,

  • I think Mark mastered the guitar like noone else in that he could make it sing like a human voice. It wasnt just another instrument but live emotional voice in the song

  • Now I can't stop watching...Hmmm no mistake in the interval run he does from 7:14, the only small mistake is at 8:02, where he doesn't hit a note cleanly. Apart from that it's flawless. Geez I love from 8:14, beatiful piano from Alan Clark and Knopflers wonderful contra-melody subtley changes to contra-harmony then he explodes at 8:41.

  • Yeah this is April 1986 at Sydney Ent Cent, the last of 19 sold out shows!! The whole show was simulcast in Australia and NZ. I stayed up to tape it on VHS (still got the original which i cherish). Still remember my reaction when I saw this song, particularly the final solo. Most expressive piece of guitar playing I've ever seen. Just beautiful.

  • that´s the absolutely best version of this song and there is no mistake in 7:14.

  • yeah its the best version of all i have heard, this was the last concert on the tour that last over a year, so he had played it a lot by then. it sounds as he never get tierd playing this song, then he played sultens in this consert he had not the same enthusiasm

  • Just Timeless! As good as it was 20 years ago~

  • The final solo beats everything in my opinion, even Alchemy. I've heard dozens of versions of this song, and nothing comes close to it.

  • Sorry, Alchemy version is better, but who really cares, this is a wonderful song by a great band and excellent guitarist

  • @Ruiggie: Overall I feel that the rest of this version lacks a bit of the rhythm of the studio or early live versions, but the final solo, it just blows me away.

  • So is that an agree or disagree that the Alchemy version is better?

  • Hmm... I'm not such a big fan of the alchemy version, I like the 80's and 85 versions better. And I learned this version on my guitar, so this one does it for me.

  • Have listened to both versions in the last hour and still prefer Alchemy, but its all about opinions isn't it! Am listening to Paul Carrick singing Another Cup of Coffee at the moment, try that. Totally different from Dire Straits.

  • True. I used to collect every piece of live material I could get my hands on, and many have "special" moments/parts - that's live music. It's all about taste, and even that may change over the years :)

  • para mi ésta es mejor, pero son gustos. A mi me encanta el ritmo de ésta, el perfecto ensamblaje de la banda, que suena como un reloj.... los punteos.... para mí ésta es la mejor.

  • one of my favourite songwriters, his guitar lics are awesome, and that tune he made for the film princess bride....... just incrediable..

  • i love the part at 08.15 then the piano starts an knopfler fade out the guitar. first he makes a silent tunes then he plays the same tone lika a ecco ant continues further. you can hear it if you listen carefully

  • 07.14 mistake? you mean the blues chord he makes at 07.16. thats not a mistake its a A chord, and the song goes in Fmajor. the chord ist not in the basic F-scale but by adding it you get a bluse scale.i think it wonderful and exactly at the right place. it knopler making art.

  • it's definately sydney 86, best version of this song i think! It's from another planet!

  • no mark is from another planet... i mean look at the fingers of the man how fast he is doing that! beautiful!

  • For me too this is the best version ever played. It has something special. The final solo is incredible.

    Go Markus Go!

  • check this one !!!

put this string into the you tube address..

    watch?v=OZ-4mtgID2o

  • or even wembley 85

  • this is not as good as the alchemy version, but my personal favourite is wemley 85.

  • mark...sei fantastico!!...grazie di esistere..

  • And he writes good lyrics as well! Just read "Angel of Mercy"!

  • This man is not human...I think God made him for something special. This man can be only loved...The best,by far.

The best solo of unnel of love, better then Alchemy version...Sometimes Knopfler plays like a violinist, not like a guitarist...I love you Mark!!!I have no more words to explain how much I love this man!

  • Try the alchemy version.. it's the best! It's on youtube cut in two parts

  • i have full version

  • yes-its a classic

  • Great, this must be from the Sydney -86 consert... he wore those pants there

  • Simply amazing!!!

  • How good is the solo at the end of this song?

I absolutely love listening to the greatest guitar player ever

  • i can't believe it, i thought i was THE only one who thinks tunnel of love and telegraph road are their best songs. my other favourites are single handed sailor, ride across the river, lions and once upon a time in the west

  • Outstanding.

  • Last 5 mins were totally Sublime. Incredible.

  • great vid -- what consert is this from?

  • thanks for sharing this video and song with us.

  • Oh my god! Or should I say "Oh my Knopfler!"? Thats by far the best version of this song. That ending solo was incredible, I can't find words for it.

  • Best;

1.Telegraph Road, 2.Tunnel of Love, 3.Sultans Of Swing, 4.Rome Juliet 5. Your Latest Trick (Live)

    Worse;

    Walk Of Life

    Brothers in Arms

  • youre retarded if youve just said brothers in arms was his worst songs.

    best solos:

    1- telegraph road

    2- tunnel of love

    3- brothers in arms

    4- sultans of swing

    5- calling elvis

    6- you and your friend

    7- private investigations

  • Yes, they're all great songs, and the list goes on...

  • Yeah, Telegraph Road is probably the best song ever. But this comes a close second!

  • My favorite is by far "Telegraph Road". I think many of you serious fans will agree.

  • I definitely agree! I love Telegraph Road, but Romeo & Juliet & Tunnel of Love are awesome as well. They are my top 3 favourites.

  • I think you can't really say which one is their best. My favourite songs are Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Skateaway and Hand in Hand. You see, my favourite album is Making movies. But I like every song they made.

  • WHY so many people keep saying that sultans of swing is their best song... I do not get it.

  • Knopfler is God.

  • i have listen this song a lot of times(cd version). if you watch exactly 07:14 then you see he makes a little mistake, and hil show his reaction also. anyway, its live concert so happens even with the best ones :P

  • you're right, but it's a little past 07:14, isn't it?

  • this is really really good song. its weird that from the moust popular dire straits songs, its not one of the first one, if you ask from people they say sultans of swing and romeo&juliet, walk of life.

  • The best song of dire straits

  • Amazing.
