This is one of the few scenes in media to legitimately give me nightmares (the only other one I can recall at the moment is the ending of the All Grown Up movie 'Interview With a Campfire')
if you watch this film carefully its like a freeaky horror like the umpa lumpa's are controlling willy wonka cause he always looks scared but tries to hide it and they slowly get rid of the children ....................... i have always been afraid of them..no lie.. i dont think it was made to be a family film i think its like a twisted horror:L hehe
I loved this movie!! this scene scared me when i was a kid. I love Johnny Depp, But there was no one like Gene Wilder. He played this part so good and creepy!
I thought one of the scenes depicted on the tunnel wall was a chicken getting its head cut off. I remember that from watching this as a kid. Was that scene removed from later editions of this movie??
because its awesome and creepy and fits well :P i was listening to through the loop and i had flas backs of this scene so i decided to youtube it. what great fun :)
On Marilyn Manson's Portrait of an american Family, this is the first song. ^__^
I've seen the movie but never put the two together because I saw the movie on TV and it was cut from the movie! Why? This is one of the most interesting scenes.
What other creatively spooky things did they cut from good childhood movies? Is there a version of Cinderella out there where she orders all of her singing mice to attack her stepsisters? I bet there is! ^__^
actually... cinderella... the original story is that the step sisters cut part of their feet off to fit the shoe and than the prince beleives that its the stepsisters who is cinderella untill the birds point out the blood.... but of course disney would never put that into their movie
Yeah!!! ^__^ where the stepmother insists that they cut their feet, because as a princess they'd be carried around anyway. I read the original in 6th grade, my teacher thought it was necessary to do the character voices.
He was all- -"Trim your heels, trim your toes...!" ugh.
my ma bought me an antique grims fairy tales book and i read it when i was a little girl... haha... i actually found it interesting about all the stories that disney made all inocent but were actually gorry and not for children... lol
There's no earthly way of knowing [umm... what?] which direction we are going. Not a speck of light is showing, so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of hell a-glowing? [*backing up*] Is the grisly reaper mowing? [*fearing*] YES! THE DANGER MUST BE GROWING, FOR THE ROWERS KEEP ON ROWING [*backing up some more*] AND THEY'RE CERTAINLY NOT SHOWING ANY SIGNS [*feared some more*] THAT THEY ARE SLOWING! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH [AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!]
Is it raining? is it snowing? (Um..No) Are the fires of hell a-glowing? (MOM!) Is the grizzly reaper mowing? (MOMMY!!) 'Cause they certainly are not showing any signs that they are slowing! (AHHHHHHH!!! Just get back to chocolate and singing!)
I saw this movie on tv today and was dissapointed to learn they ommited the entire boat ride from the film. Are people really that threatened by this scene???
Love this scene. The mood quickly changes as it becomes apparent Wonka is a, er, frigging nutter. Absolute chaos and great acting by Wilder and Kinnear.
me and some girls were sining this on a bead, acting drunk! i said if i had a camera this would be the hottest video on youtube, they said we should record this and put it on youtube
ABC Family had to edit for G rated audiences, when I was 7 this scene scared the crap out of me esp 1:46 the creepy picture of mr. slugworth. I believe the movie is PG and they did this for the G rating. If it aired like on HBO networks they would play it.
Why on earth did Tim Burton think that this film had no darkness? This film had more darkness than Dahl's original, this knowing psychedelic surrealness. Burton's film was not needed.
Fucking amen. Tim Burton is a butcher. (and he CLEARLY does not know which way the river is flowing, as there is no earthy way of knowing, although he would probably have you believe he DOES).

No, I'm not referring to balls. I mean "Nuts" can also refer to crazy people. So he coulda ment he works with nutjobs.
