I noticed from the specifications that MP 640 does not work under Windows 7 and that it prints via Pict Bridgeonly from photo cameras compatible with the PictBridge functiob. I need ALSO these 2 features too. what can I do please, what printer should I choose at approximately the same price ?( I read on Tesco website that canon pixma 5250 is rather slow and sometimes it prints with some marks on the picture...Is it true please ?)
I'm hesitating between mp 640 or mx 870. I guess I want to know if the mx 870 can match the photo print of the mp 640 because the latter does not have a document feeder. Love the cd / dvd printer capability
A warning for users who want to buy this printer because of its (fast) duplex printing. If automatic duplex printing is enabled then the mp640 will print the text much lighter. Black text will then look more like dark grey, which is much less convenient to read.
In duplex mode the printer will definetely also use the pigmented inkt (PGI-520). It is easy for me to tell because I have printed duplex more or less all the time and the PGI-520 is already half empty, while the 521 Black is still "100%" full. I believe this 521 Black is more meant for photo's.

can you use this printer to print on transfers for a t-shirt?
folleyisgrandmababy 1 year ago
@folleyisgrandmababy I suppose. You have to buy inkjet compatible T-Shirt foils and check the compatibility with the ink.

@SandaFlorentina I believe that the MP640 is actually not the most recent model anymore. Please check the MG6150 model if you wanna go with Canon.

Well, I wouldn't say it's not black, but maybe not the blackest you could get :-)
In duplex mode, the printer does not use the pigmented black, just the "normal" black, since the pigmented ink takes too long to dry.

When you print onto CD, can you print direct onto the plastic, or do you need to stick a paper label to the CD first? Thanks.

Neither, you have to buy blank CDs/DVDs with a printable surface.
