I think its disgusting that Tesco are giving people the choise of where they shop! They are giving people cheaper food which will just destroy the pompus atmosphere around North Street. What makes me most angry is that North Street hasn't been looked after for 40 years, and now Tesco are trying to move in and change OUR area for the better! What annoys me even more is that most traders want the Tesco because it will bring more buiness to the area and that will make the streets busyier!
people like Tesco thats why they go there. If individuals dont like it then dont go in but MOST people DO like TESCO. Dont blame Tesco they are just giving communities what they want ;-)
Excellent film, really well produced and very enlightening. You MUST share it around more, though. I don't live anywhere near Bristol, I've never been to North Street and I still felt moved by this. It's gotta be seen by more than 2,500 people. Others on a national level WILL take interest, so good luck!

Local shopkeepers? Fuck 'em, More choice at sainsbury's- and cheaper too. The days of little shitty shops are well and truly over. Go out and do a proper days work you namby pamby loafers.
Your predicament here is sort of (in a wanky metaphorical way) , a bit like the movie AVATAR. Load of Corporate Turds coming into your natural home to drain it of it's resources to make lots of money for themselves, while at the same time, fucking a lot of good honest people right over, whilst caring very little and pretending to care a ruddy great lot.
James Cameron don't got shit all on the ppl of North Street, south Bristol!
Conflicting messages in video. North Street offers something different, this is true, something totally different to a supermarket. All the same things were said when Aldi and Sainsburys moved to the area and the street has flourished since. Tes? YES!
I like to shop in north st but can never find a place to park.Tesco will have no impact what so ever with 2 big supermarkets less than 10 mins walk away from north st already a 3rd can only bring more bussness to the st.
Perhaps you'd like to share with us, a greengrocer, a butcher & bakery that got MORE business when a superstore selling fruit & veg, meat & bread opened 500 metres away from them.
You've got it in one! As soon as a few of the shops loose a bit of trade, but their overheads don't drop,They close. People then HAVE to go to the supermarket.
There is no other shopping street like North street left in South Bristol , is there?
Brilliant film. Very professional, heart felt and something that all parts of Bristol could do to show what's great about this City. To use a film to campaign is a genius plan. Nice one. Good luck with the Tesno campaign.
Right, good film, points well made (very biased, mind) ... but tell me this, if no one wants Tesco, how is Tesco a threat? Let me suggest that in fact, rightly or wrongly, people do want Tesco. If they didn't, why would they want to open a store?
I agree that another large superstore in the area would be bad for the little independants in the north street vicinity but as for the stadium, we need it. Bristol City needs a new stadium to be able to have a stadium which Bristol can be proud of and maybe host world cup matches and maybe one day premiership football.
Brilliant filmwhich needed to be done, nobody wants another s/market it will kill North St. we don't need abigger stadium in Ashton Vale either, that will cause even more traffic and pollution than Tesco. It,s all about greed, i doubt if Bristol City Council will listen to local concerns anyway!!!
Great film. I didn't really have an opinion about the issue until now. But having wandered around North Street today, and having been directed to this film by the Simply Southville blog, I'm fully behind your campaign now. Good luck!

nice video. shame most of the tesno campaign posters seem to be in the windows of those who will end up shopping there anyway.

Great video - let's keep Tesco's out. Let's replace one old sporting ground with a brand new sports complex for the community...

If these shops are so good then why is everyone worried about Tesco?
coakesy 2 years ago
Everyone is worried about Tesco cus they've seen the shops in most other negihbourhoods wiped out.
Its their experience of what happens.
