Thanks. The scale length is only 16", tuned GDAE-double octave mandolin- so the tension isn't bad, but it's still a problem. I am currently using polyurethane strings (the other video) so the durability is good, but on my next one, I think I'll build it with a 15" scale so I can go back to the silicone string. Problem there: the low G may become a little floppy. I guess I'll find out.
I ...really... like the design. How well do the mandocello tunings work with the Ashbory bass strings? If I'm doing the math right, you would have an FCGD tuning at the typical 18". That means the second string is tuned to the same tension and "G" as the Ashbory. So how are you getting the smallest string to tune up that high (a fifth above the Ashbory tuning)? That's the string that always breaks first. I still love the styling. Please tell us more about the instrument.
Amazing. Nice one it shows this bass as being great!

Nice try.
Did you build this instrument? It doesn't look like any Ashbory bass available out there...
It looks wonderful!

Yes, it's one of my creation. I rather play well, but alas, I'll settle with build well.

Thanx 4 your quick answer.
Do you sell what you build?
I really love the violin shape of that instrument, reminds me of the Hofner bass played by Sir Paul (and you're left-handed too, like him !).
It would be so cool in a 18'' scale though (and with standard tuning) !
Send me an e-mail if you don't feel like talking business on this page...!
Thank you.
