it might be worth noting that the late, very great shel silverstein wrote this song, and that as far as i know he was not gay (not that it would make a damn to me if he was), and was most certainly not a woman. but shel did write 'a boy named sue' for johnny cash, 'cover of the rolling stone', and many other wonderful songs both humorous and sensitive, and i bet he's up there enjoying this vid. good job!

I was a housewife for 11 years before the ass left me and my kids. I was so depressed the last year of us being together that I would sit and listen to this song over and over and freaking cry..I didn't realize that it ended in suicide until I that year...Isn't that freakin scary?
