Good job, though I'd cool the sapranos abd altos and let the tenors shine through, same with baris and basses, its the same with my chior in Iowa, but anyway, it is a beautiful song done beautifly.
@MusicalMindAssault I sang this arrangement of Oh Shenandoah in my Texas high school choir back in, oh, 1979-1980. It was also on the All-State choir song list that year. It is truly a magnificently delicate arrangement. I'd love to hear the Texas All-State choir's version from last year!
great job - ya'll are super tight - rehearsed to death i'd say - bueatiful tone in the beggining melody only part - then when they come togetger. . it's like a breath of fresh air . in spring time. and yo'ure in love. hahah
great memory. Our high school from Kenai Alaska did this on tour one year. Truly a beautiful piece of music, best done with full part harmony, full choir
i love this song, and i love those shirts...man i wish i went to school in hawaii...i really really want to go to college there! at least for one year...
i just sang this one last year in my Concert Choir, and i loved it. I love hearing the different ways the directors changes things to ake it their own and unique to thire choir. Bravo!!
what are you talking about? this song is very hard to sing because one its meant to be slow! if you sing it fast it takes the essence away. the men and women did screw up a little not being entirely unified but they did a good job. they have pretty good sopranos and tenors altos but there seems to be little or any low bases which is essential for this piece. overall they did a good job
yup dynamics make all the difference.. and unison is difficult because it is hard to get everyones voice (and for some people their vibrato) to sound as one voice
I think your choir sounds good, However for this song I think that you should teach your tenors how to better support their middle range. The sopranos sound good but they sound more as if they are just mimicing each other instead of supporting.
Its Soprano heavy and too light on the Tenor Line...its supposed to stick out more then it does....But John Rutter is a musical genuis when he directed this and thats how he wanted it...its still fantastic....right in time and everything, and the soprano alot call and response is beautiful and flawless....now if only i could get my choir to sing it like this we'd be set for state comp.
I just sang this tonight four the Eastern Regional Concert, it was amazing. We circled the audience and it was just amazing. It's too bad that this perforamce is so beautiful and there are people caushing and sneezing int he audience along with cell phones and babies because this is wonderful.
We sang this when i made All- Region Choir in 98'. Such a marvelous song indeed and we flat ripped it that year. I love this performance, they did an amazing job! This is such a beautiful song indeed. Thanks for posting! GO MORMONS!
Beautiful job everyone! The chords at the entrance of the full chorus gave me chills.... perfectly in tune. I love Hawai'i's tradition of great singing, whether tranditional Hawai'ian or standard rep. The Islands are magical.
they are good but listen to this i just went into the 6th grade and im singing this song and we gave the same vocal arrengements

Where are the basses?!
Tone down your sopranos, and balance the other parts. And use some dynamics...

supposed to be super slow lol.
oompaloompa52091 2 years ago
It's supposed to be sung with a pure tone... the sopranos and others are giving it way too much vibrato.

I know what you mean about singing just a melody line in unison, can be very boring. But there's your challenge--to use dynamics to give interest.

My sister's high school choir is performing this for regional festival..
they did the Erb arrangement, so the first two sections are a soprano and and alto solo, she's got the soprano and it sounds amazing.
