The GOP dun goofed. When it decided to abandon simple conservative principles in favor of polarization, the die was cast.
It's HARD to pander to racists, gun nuts, Christian fundies, anti-choice kooks, homophobes, secessionists, corporate fat cats and lobbyists all at once, while sounding reasonable to centrists and independents. The strategy of exclusion is self-defeating.
If the GOP wants to be relevant, cut loose the lunatic fringe of the party and give thoughtful conservatives a chance.
