that was not shrapnel, that was a whole damn tank, those tanks have safety plug on the bottom that melt away when in a fire & acetylene burns at 5000 degrees. when the tank catches fire it WILL take off like a rocket so when you see one on fire you better be in a good position to run like hell.
Love to know more about this what was the fuel stored there. Looks like 55 gallon drums from a fuel depot. But to have them continuously go up like that is something I have never seen before , usually with a fire of that intensity they would all heat up at about the same time and all blow at once.. or eventually all blow at once.. The pilot of the helicopter was most likely far away from the thing and taking footage with a telephoto lens on the camera..
i remember watching this live on tv. it was pretty cool. i only live like 20 minutes from dallas. jeez check out that tank that took off around :47-49
Wow, crazy how far those tanks were launching. That one did a cool spin before it took off. Shame that people's lives and property are impacted but what a spectacular series of fireballs. Thanks for sharing the video.
i passed by the warehouse today and its weird cause its litterally right behind a Sigels liquour store, but tthe liquor store is virtually untouched.!!
OMG I was thinking about the same thing, its so crazy how that liquor store survived. I must go there and buy a bottle of liquor now....its only a little scorched on the back but not bad at all.
My dad's been a Dallas firefighter for 30+ years and he said he's never seen anything like that fire. They found tanks 2 miles up the road on the other side of the highway. They are lucky only 3 people got hurt and no one was killed. I use to vol. for a fire department and we had a junk yard that caught on fire and there were acetylene tanks in there. Before they blow they let out this LOUD hissing sound then they get so hot they are like rockets.
I work fo a courier service and I went to Industrial Blvd for a delivery half a mile from the site and I heard someone there say they had shrapnel hit their warehouse.
This was a full on facility. I have a small acetylene tank I used to get filled there. There was o2 and hydrogen there, but the sound of explosions one after another lasted more than thirty minutes.
I still can't believe that more people were not hurt with all of the gas tanks flying everywhere. They said that those suckers landed over a mile away
there was shit the size of bath tubs flying onto the highway while burning

What wouldve been great was if it had culminated in one fuck off huge explosion that decimated 10 city blocks.

i work fill acetylene for airgas. that was only an acetylene fire. if oxygen or hydrogen were present, it would have been much worse.
