how much is repairing the bodys of carvins? mine was chewed about an inch into the little spot that comes out of the body and is next to the neck its the bottom one opposite the strap holder
@thebeerfest2008 Carvin started selling 24 fret versions of the double cutaway earlier this year, but I don't think they do it in the single cutaway (yet.)
@thebeerfest2008 - IMO, not overly large. But nowhere as thin as say an Ibanez Wizard II neck. But not quite as thick as modern Fender C neck either. Honestly, it really reminds me a lot of the neck on my Taylor 314ce acoustic.
Nice guitar man. Curious about a few aspects of it as I'm currently CS6 shopping right now. Mine is gonna be aesthetically like the Manhattan Blue Gibson LP from a few years back. I was wondering if your inlays were abalone or MoP, and also about the stop-tail verse string through thing. They say string throughs sustain better but it seems a bit iffy to me. What are your thoughts on that since you have a stop-tail version?
@HabitZero - Those are abalone. I've had guitars with both stop tails and string throughs, honestly, if the guitar is well made to my ears there isn't much difference. I've got an Eric Johnson Strat that will vibrate throughout the body up to the headstock as much if not more than than the Carvin or any Les Paul, or any Paul knock off I've had.
I sure don't have any issues with the Carvin sustaining as long as I need it too. Personally, I don't think the LP style guitars look right with a string through body.
Great tone...great playing. Did I mention...I love that Carvin. Of course...if I was playing it...it would probably sound like s**t. I'm having fun watching these!! I wouldn't be surprised if a Chupacabra bit me on the arse.
Pretty much the only differences are the cutaway, and on mine I have the Stop Tail (the S in the model name), and the Les Paul style 4 knob layout. I don't think you can do the 4 knob with the CT series, but I could be wrong. But pretty much materials and construction are going to be similar - other than the uniqueness of the woods used of course.
@superstringbender You mean other than the fact they are completely different body styles? lol. With Carvin, you can't really 'compare' guitars. Because everyone gets them with different woods, finishes, pickups, necks, etc.
Nice guitar. How does it play compared to aan Gibby lp? I know you are more of a blues player, but Could you make a video of some more high gain tests with it? Im curious of how hot the pickups are and how versatiole the guitar will be.
Mine was $950 shipped, custom made. Amazing American made guitar, flawless build quality. Took 6 weeks for them to build and ship it. Comes with a tour quality hardshell case too.
im completely sold on carvins at this point, single coil, double coil, set neck, bolt neck, all of them. Im not goin to get rid of my gibson or my fender but but i definately want to match each up to its carvin vertsion. very nice.
Sounds killer! Blue, Green, and Tiger eye were the colors I had to decide from. The next I get will be a quilt with either that new green they offer now, or the tiger.
When you get some photos of it, please PM me or get me a link to see them.
I just ordered a CS6 which is just stunning and will be here tomorrow. Those s22 pups are killer and some of the best IMO. I am rocking with a X212B combo which is STELLAR!!
Thanks for making these vids. I'm planning on getting either a cs4 or a ct4 and was curious what one of the california singles sounded like (theres like no vids of them!)
That's in the nature of a single coil pickup. But I don't find all that much hum in the Carven when in single mode. I get alot more from my Strats in the 1-3-5 positions.
I've compared it with a 2002 LP Standard with Burstbuckers and IMO the string/note clarity is more defined in the Carvin. I haven't A/B it with '57 Classic pickups, so I can't comment on those.
I cant believe people could say carvins pickups suck. That sounds great. Thanks for solidifying my decision to get a CS. 3rd carvin guitar here I come! A few questions. Would you recommend going with the 2 tone and 2 volume knobs? If you go with just one volume and tone can you still get the split hum-buckers option? Lastly, What finish is that? Thanks for the vid!
As far as the knobs are concerned, I just wanted to go with what I was more familiar with. It was as simple as that really. I also like being able to split one pup and not the other, and being able to use the middle position on the selector switch to give you two more possible tonal options. I don't believe if you go with the two knob layout you could do that, but the both buckers will still split.
As far as the finish, this guitar is Deep Blue Triple Stain on a Flame Maple Top.
I think the guitar AND amp are nicely matched . If forced to choose I would say that the GUITAR is driving the amp a bit . I may be partially biased , I was a painter for Carvin and I've been playing guitar for 35+ years . I've owned 50 + gtrs , but overall I think his sound and pairing for the style he's presenting is fantastic !
You have me extremely interested in Budda amps, but damn they are pricey!

What do you think about their M22 pick ups?
zonie9872 1 year ago
@zonie9872 - I've never personally played a guitar with them. So I really don't have an opinion of them.
bytor1975 1 year ago
@zonie9872
Much smoother sounding then the C22s. The C22s are a bit harsh. Also, generally more pleasing to listen to for some reason.
