    Published: Tuesday, October 24, 2006 northern Saskatchewan has been put in doubt, after efforts to contain a flood at the Cigar Lake mine failed Monday morning.

    Mine engineers from Cameco Corp. were unable to get one of the mine's huge bulkhead doors to seal properly and stem the fl ow of water that had been pouring in at a rate of 1,500 cubic metres an hour since Sunday afternoon.

  • Yeelirrie is Australia's second-largest undeveloped uranium deposit, with more than 52,000 tonnes of resources, behind only the mothballed Jabiluka mine in the Northern Territory. BHP Billiton plans to produce an average of 5,000 tonnes of uranium a year from the deposit, with a mine life of more than 30 years.
