My dad served along side with the rok and he's told me some real shit about them on. Once they had a bunch of vietcong POWs who killed a bunch of US Soldiers. Rok came through and demanded they hand them over to them which they did. They walked ahead and didn't see them until the next day, hung up and skinned from the trees they was hangin from. The rok soldiers were just sitting their eating their lunch.
The South Koreans are a very proud people and strive for excellence in everything they do. I have a few other militaries in Europe to compare them too. I was stationed in Italy and Spain. I would say by far as for military bering, appearance and professionalism. Hands down I would rather these guys have my back than anybody else. I was in the USN for 12 years active and 3 reserves. I have drilled and trained with these folks, Foul Eagle excercise. These guys rock!!
Koreans dont worry about what this haters say. We Koreans have 5000 years of history. We do not care about this kids say. We are best as we say the best. And why go vs USMC AND ROKMC? there is no point. US won't survive our cold. Korea won't survive their bombs and attacks. Simple as that.

Difference between the USMC and ROKMC is that while USMC is volunteer based, ROKMC is selective group. USMC is the largest marine corps in the world and ROKMC is the 2nd largest. But you have to compete to get into ROKMC vs USMC is really based on anyone that applies and physically fit enough. So if the USMC is "good enough" selection, ROKMC is "best out of every 20." Yes, chance of getting into ROKMC is 1:20. But of course, Marines are made, not born. Good thing te US and Korea are allies.
Actually the best comparison would be the US Marine Corps.
The Delta Force (which formal name is 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta) is an elite and secret military unit comparable with the Korean 707th SMB (Special Missions Battalion) of the South Korean Special Warfare Command focused in counterterrorism and counterinsurgence.
