Why are the Turkish dudes dressed like shit? Very disrespectful. They play great, but its almost all chops, and no groove. I'll take a good Egyption or Lebanese player any day of the week over a chop happy turkish dude. Egyption playing is very, very clean.
Lehmann108, first of all, the clip is from the 90's, where all of us dressed like this, relicts of the 80s i think. Secondly, these two are the 2 greatest masters on the planet. They are beyond the "commerce" level you are talking about, in thir own sphere, making music for the connaisseurs. Little bit like Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix style...
Its a matter of personal preference. I like groove drummers that play deep in the pocket and when I started playing the darbuka I liked guys that could really hold a rhythm and improvise around it. I'm just not into this technically sophisticated (no doubt about that) but grooveless playing.
Why do you have to be a vise ass and Mr. I know it all and just cant appricitate a good rythim. If you think you can do better then step to the spot light and show us. This guy is a legend and u should learn to show some respect.
Who said anything about knowing it all. I just can't stand his stupid rapid playing that is technically incredible but musically empty. Of course I can appreciate a rhythm. I'll listen to Said all day but this split finger crap is grossly over-played and over-rated.
masters!
