As a referee in ireland watching this video for the first time, the red card was totally justifed, no intention to play the ball with the onli intention to be 2 coz damage to the opossing player, and sum 1 needs to tell that complainer of a manager that it is not the responsibillity of the referee to keep players on the field or to ensure the game flows but those responsibillities lye in the hands of the players and mentors of those players. referees are there to do their jobs, not yours!!!!!!!!

Simplest red card to give for Shields to give as you can see, studs up, wasn't going for the ball, you could see the intent, he had his head down looking at the guys leg, no way that he was going to get the ball, he bends his knee and extends showing the studs. Mark Shields had an un-interrupted view of only 7 meters away.

simply put it - red card.

The only reason it got out of hand was that the people at the stadium didn't have the luxury of viewing it over and over again from different angles.
