the problem with having Nerdfighteria as a physical place, like an island, is that it means everywhere else ISNT Nerdfighteria. With the actual incorporeal location of Nerdfighteria, being everywhere there are Nerdfighters, makes for a much bigger and inclusive Nerdfighteria.

I was watching this and thinking "Seriously, why couldn't we do that? What if Nerdfighteria really could become its own sovereign nation? I'm sure we're all clever and resourceful enough to make it work! But I feel like something's missing from this picture..." Then I remembered that if we were a sovereign nation we'd probably want to have a defense army of some sort so that Decepticon nations don't try to kidnap our awesome... and that would require citizens with physical prowess.
