  • Sorry, one more thing: what's the diference between Zoom H4N and Marantz 671?

  • Do you think the sound quality of zoom H4N is better than MXL 990?

On the beach rec I listen to much wind sound; is it possible avoiding that?

  • @MaximoBrazil2000 well i was considering getting the 990 but then i discovered HOW MUCH SHIT YOU NEED TO TAKE IT AROUND WIT U:p get the zoom it is same if not better quality more options (obviosly) its stereo AND has loads of features and effects built in its a studio in the palm of your hand! get it :)

  • Clean & Beautiful Sound.

    Worth the price. Cheers! :)

  • Will you recommend this or the H2N for recording at concerts? I know that the H2N has 5 build-in mics, but honestly, there must be a reason for the H4N to be more expensive. I'm tilting between the H2N and the H4N and I don't know which to pick. I want the best sound, so what are your experiences with the H4N? If you have any comments to this please advise me :)

    Thanks in advance!

  • @EltonJohnGigs Honestly, I don't have any experience with the H2N so I might not be the guy to talk with ;-) I can tell you the H4N will do the job perfectly! You'll get crystal clear sound. But if you only intent to record at concerts my guess is the H2N will do fine. The higher price of the H4N is mainly because of extra features, for instance the 2 XLR inputs which are pretty much a 'must have' during studio recordings.

  • 2:14 Did your Zoom H4N eliminate from TV sound?

  • @RomanticPopPunk No not really. I wish it had a feature like that ;-). The TV was still on, but we did turn down the volume.

  • can it record a noisy jam in a rehearsal studio? if the sound and levels are good to the ear at the time, though loud and busy, can the hn4 reproduce this or will it be too loud?

  • @nickynunn This won't be a problem for the h4n. Adjust the recording levels a bit and you'll be fine. But it might be a problem if there are huge differences between the soft and loud parts in the jam. If that's the case, my advice would be to adjust the recording level to the loudest parts of the jam. The H4N mics are sensitive enough to still capture the more soft parts of the jam, but probably you will have to increase the volume a bit while editing in post.

  • i you used a good windscreen...

  • @poundpit $295??? Go to ebay

  • setting it on the beach to capture the waves is absolutely genious. i should do that as well

  • so you synced the audio from the Zoom with the video in post on the computer?

  • @zvaios Yes, I synced in post using Adobe Premiere.

  • So which is better, the H1, H2, or H4n? I want the best quality for singing and piano and pretty much just the best quality, I don't care too much about the price.

  • Hi there!5 years back I started writing a Folk Metal project which is yet to be recorded, let alone finished as far as writing process completion.

Anyway, I wonder if this would be any good to for instance take it to the woods, and capturing you know, birds singing, the wind blowing and such.

    Thanks!

  • @Archeron33 Yes, I definitely think the H4N is up to such a task. The mic's are very sensitive which makes it capable of recording all those wonderful sounds form the woods. I'm not sure about recording the wind blowing though. I mean, you will want to use a good wind cap because otherwise you get those well known crisp sound-peaks on your recording. But it might well be that the sound 'wind blowing' as we know it, is actually the sound of wind floating across all those trees and leafs.

  • @Archeron33 I just remembered this particular 'wind blowing' video. This video also helped me deciding to buy a H4N or not. :-D.

    vimeo dot com / 5587973

Sorry for the weird url, but YouTube did not want to accept my message otherwise.

  • I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video and reviewing the Zoom H4n!

  • my h4n gives me lots of hiss in when recording, is my unit damaged? its a new unite

  • @vZamfir : I'm not sure. There's always a small amount of hiss. The better the quality of the mic, the less hiss.

The H4N shouldn't produce much hiss, so if it's really that bad I suggest you take it back to the shop. The only thing I can think off which might be the reason of this problem is that the recording volume is set too high.

  • Great demo video! Could you tell me the sample hate you used?

  • @MauroPavanelli : Thanks! This demo was recorded at 128kbps. Not the best quality, but good enough for this video. Youtube will compress the audio anyway... ;-)

  • @gtclaan

thanks a lot! Afther I saw some great demo videos like yours I bought one for acoustic guitar recording/study it´s really a great tool. Thanks for your atention.

  • @MauroPavanelli : I watched your video Beaumont Rag. It sounds awesome! Buying the H4N was an excellent choice ;-)

  • ZOOM H4N ....what a small superstar :)

  • How would the H4N compare to the Q3?

  • @flubas2mace: Well, I think Zoom aims at a whole other customer group with the Q3. First of all, the Q3 is mainly a video recorder. Other than that the H4N has some features which takes it really to a more semi-professional level. For instance: 4-channel recording, true build-in X/Y stereo mics, 2 XLR/Hi-Z/Phone connectors with phantom power supply.

To be honest, a choice between the Q3 and the H4N isn't really a choice ;-)

  • Good idea, thanks! Very helpful...

  • Please address this one issue I heard : Background hum during the flute recording and none in any of the others .

  • @oldjty : I guess what you hear is the fan of the pc. There was a pc tower on the same desk as where the H4N was placed, just 50 cm to the left.

  • lovely stuff!

  • thanks again gtclaan; if you ever pass by Cap de Creus; Cadaqués in Spain, you´re invited to a bottle of well treated grapes..!!

  • yep, we´ve got Media Markt here - thanks a lot man, very kind of you - cool!!

I´m gonna use the H4n to record myself when I play at the Cap de Creus, a usually quite windy place, maybe I should wait for a day with little wind..; )

  • Your welcome. A windy place shouldn't be problem with a good windcap. The standard one will not be sufficient, but there are some better windcaps out there.

  • @gtclaan I just saw a nice one on another vid. its called the redhead. check that out

  • @pzero111 Thanks! I know this one. My father has bought the redhead windcap a few months ago. It works like a charm, really wonderful sound! Just haven't had the time yet to make demo with it... But if you're interested, I can absolutely recommend it!

  • great demo, thanks..where I get this little footstand?

  • @fierstared62: It's a Hama mini Tripod. I bought it for about 10-15 euro at Media Markt. I think Media Markt is also in Spain.

  • could you please be so kind as to tell me what kind of format you used? (mp3/wave/ Kh etc..?)

    I would be very gratefull!

    Pascal.

  • @Qpidon: I recorded mp3 at 128 Kbps, 44.1 Khz. Not the best recording quality, but this was recorded specially for uploading to Youtube.

  • thank you !! many thanks indeed!!

  • I'm considering buying one, thanks for taking the time to make this video and sharing it with us.
