@Mat397 there s alot of developpers now... There are apps for productivity, entertainement, games etc... just tons now.. Android Market just getting bigger and bigger. The best way to find out is to get an Android OS device, connect it to Internet and go on the Android Market then you'll get to choose whatever s handy in your daily life, calendars, reminders, to-do list, just anything about anything at least that's what I do... Apple has a lot more apps though.. But Android is tailing ..

@Mat397 PDAnet is an app enabling data share of your phone's with your PC's via tethering tech is basically what that thing does. It can turn your phone into a remote device for your PC pretty handy too.. But Tethering means having your internet phone turned into WIFI hotspot for any WIFI devices (laptops) around your phone pretty cool tech ... but the thing it's open network meaning anybody can use your phone Internet connection unless you secure your network...

Earlier commenter said Android 2.1 would NOT let you disable network usage- that is wrong, at least with my htc Eris. Probably most if not all 2.1 devices WILL PERMIT DISABLING OF NETWORK DATA (so you can avoid overages or in my case just use wifi while at home). Heres how: from home screen Menu/settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/data enabled (click to uncheck it). HTC has a widget built in for 1 click enable/disable from your home screen. See HTC instructions for adding widgets.

To avoid data roaming just uncheck the data enable button on the nexus one at least... + guys that are several Internet tracking consumption apps on the Market for sure pretty handy when you re in the country telecommunication costs sucks a-- like mine... anyway...

If you buy the phone unlocked from Google, you do not need a data plan and with the newer OS Froyo 2.2, you can turn off mobile-data -- with 2.1 there's no way to do so.

The Nexus is an awesome device and it's worth paying a few hundred more for an unlocked version. I'm still iffy on a data plan, since I work from home and all of my clients have wi-fi.

Heads up, some apps do require a data plan to work, without one, these apps are unavailable on the market.

Depends on how you use your phone. In short:

iPhone is for the advanced user who just wants a phone that allways works, and doesnt mind that someone else (Apple) makes most of the choices.

Nexus is for the advanced user who likes to tweak his phone and in general uses more than one app simultanously.

I had an iPhone for a short period and loved it. But i multitask a lot, so sadly it wasnt a phone for me.

A company like HTC or Samsung can take Android and modfiy it and put in any phone. That dont make it a google phone. it just runs there OS. Now Take the G1 or nexus It was Dev by Google, With just HTC hardware. If im right. the samsung moment back cover saying Powered By Google not With google
