I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs + injection and tank clean and rustfree

it sounds like a car god frankly, but its clearly modified right? my uncles got one and it makes one of the nicest sounds i have ever heard to be fair. all you've done is kept the looks and upped the performance on something made from BL which was codswallop frankly so hats off to you. Well done
I dont think there is anything wrong with a Rover V8 engined Stag, although an original Triumph V8 in fine fettle does make a glorious noise. Like people have said, the main point is enjoyment of the car, and it has to be said a Rover V8 does give piece of mind towards the owner
sounds great !!! love stags, and don't mind the rover v8 conversion.....but like to think what the stag would've been like if british leyland hadn't been in strife and developed the triumph v8 engine more, namely two dolomite sprint engines together instead of normal dolomite engines,32 valve,4 litre, ohc v8....nice!!!
Thanks for reply, will try to get along to Prescott next year, something I've not yet done in my Stag + we can compare "exhaust noises" (very worrying), cheers.
where did you got the rover v8 from?

use 1% two stroke oil in your fuel to prevent fuel system corrosion with todays ultra dry eco fuel (E10)

That sounds quite beastly!

Brilliant sound!
It only needs one more noise to improve it, at the end - see Stag Hoon.

I was more asking whether this car was fitted with a Rover V8 as it sounds very much like one.
The original Stag engine, the one you describe, sounds ten times better in my opinion.

I am going to give the same exhaust treatment to my Rover P5b with Buick 5.0 V8 and ported SD1 headers - no room for anyhing else under that hood !

The best Aural pleasure I have ever had on a Sunday morning.
I had 4 outlets on a previous stag. Looking to do the same on my present one. Any underneath pictures available?

Great sound - I run an SD1 V8 in my Stag - what exhaust setup is this - I'd love to do the same, thanks

Definitely not a typical European sound! Very, very nice. Wouldn't mind at all getting my hands on one over here!
