@fox428 Ferrets do nip, but its usually an attempt to play, and they can be trained out of it. A ferrets jaw is powerful enough to crush a human finger bone, but they do not. This is because they don't want to hurt you, they do not understand at first that it is 'rough' from a human perspective when they nip.
@kashicommodore ferrets bite not only when they want to play. If you count a bite as they play, then you have never been bitten. I do not count nibs when they play, they dont even hurt skin.
@ylovShirona065 High quality cat food. EVO cat and kitten is a good one--I feed my fuzzies a mix of that and Ultimate 8 in 1 crunchy (for ferret), with a little Zupreem (for ferret) mixed in now and then, although the Zupreem seems to make their stool loose and on the smellier side. :p
Whoa, that's a big fat boy!! Is he young for his size? Mine used to do that when they were young, I think they were dreaming of nursing like cats sometimes do, and make the same face and mouth movements. :)

My albino used to bite really hard, but now i can kiss him as my other ferrets :) I dont think youll need a doctor after a bite, but it is painful. Personally I have NEVER wore gloves, and would never recommend to wear them,they only do harm.

They do understand that you are there master, and they do love you, not like a dog, maybe more like a cat, but show it a lot less. If you will have a good connection with a ferret, it will sleep with you, but everything depends on you and an individuals character.
Do they like cuddles as pets? Am not allowed a cat or dog in my apartment, but small animals are fine. there's some at the SPCA just now and am thinking about it.
@musicalemba It depends on there age, young there very active and dont like to stay on hands. But when you get your ferret and the first time he sleeps on your hands that means he accepted you as his family :D Older ferrets stay on hands and like to be massaged and stuff :)

Usually a male ferret should be more than 1kg, up to 2kg. Femle's are usully small and weight less than 1kg, some may weigh up to 1,5kg (this is rare, ussually they weigh about 800-900g)
@sweeterthencandydeco when euros brought us over we decided to go back into being feral and got big as a large cat. biggier then a house cat. maruading farms killing dogs chikins and the like. huge 50 pound feral ferrets roaming the fronteir.
A big ferret is a healthy ferret. My little boy was on kitten food before I adopted him, then when he came to live with me I started feeding him Ultimate Crunchy by 8in1 and he sized right up. He's a healthy big boy now.

@Al123456ize try Marshalls premium diet . And your vet is an idiot. Never feed a ferret fruit! Fruit is baaaaad baaaad. Ferrets need a balanced diet with high protein, fat, and low fiber. As for your ferret being obese...not good either. So maybe that will go away with a good diet and lots of exercise! They as you know have tons of energy :D A way that you could control how much he eats is to only put in his food dish the amount he needs. and then when its time to eat again do the same thing.
I got Houdini from women that kept ferrets, she didnt feed him as he needed, weight 800g when i got him t 1 year, now hes almost 2kg. He was dirty and smelly, now hes a roan mitt with silver grays, and he was dirty yellow :) My albino Torres, had oridinali very small parents, i took him in a family which grew ferrets in cages outside... :( hes 2,5 kg now :) 2 times of a size his father was :)
Ferrets play hard and sleep even harder. Ive seen them actually chew in their sleep. But open their cage and out they come without a moments hesitation.
hills you can find at your vet, or pets at home, im not sure which country your from. First try finding on google Acana praire cat or Orijen for cats (meet version) on google in you local area, or internet shop. Hills is not to good but better then ferret pellets. Acana and Orijen are best as they have meat based proteins. Orijen beter on it but the poo does smell and get soft, so I personally feed Acana now (green). :)
@fox428 Good advice. We also feed our homonculi Orijen and Acana prairie. We also use Organix cat & kitten, Fromm duck, Natural Planet Organics, Go Naturals trout, and Ziwi lamb. We mix it all up in equal parts and they love it. The only one they were not keen on and so stopped buying was the Evo Ferret. Wysong pheasant is good too but hard to find. Cheers. Nice post. =)

@fox428 hello man cute ferret ;) !!! i was just wondering since you said owning a ferret would be better keeeping it out of the cage permanently, if it would be ok to keep it out of the cage in my bedroom at night? The only time its in its cage is when im out of the house, and hopefully at night he would come and curl up with me on my bed ahaa :P ... ?
It depends :) i know many ppl that let there ferrets free all the time, and sleep with them, but my 3 boys wouldn't let me sleep so i keep them in a cage at night or when im not around. But the cage is in my bedroom and there trained if its night time and there in a cage it means they have to sleep :D
well, it all depends on how you will train it :) i wish you LOTS of patients :)
i beat my ferrets. they are so scared to even wake up to eat. one of them committed suicide by drowning itsself the other day :(

That may be true they are out about 6 hours a day. When at work they are in their cage.

Just spend more time with them :) train them and love'em :) if there young, there get closer to you when they get more mature :)

@fox428 hello man cute ferret ;) !!! i was just wondering since you said owning a ferret would be better keeeping it out of the cage permanently, if it would be ok to keep it out of the cage in my bedroom at night? The only time its in its cage is when im out of the house, and hopefully at night he would come and curl up with me on my bed ahaa :P ... ?

It depends :) i know many ppl that let there ferrets free all the time, and sleep with them, but my 3 boys wouldn't let me sleep so i keep them in a cage at night or when im not around. But the cage is in my bedroom and there trained if its night time and there in a cage it means they have to sleep :D
well, it all depends on how you will train it :) i wish you LOTS of patients :)

I am so jealous my ferrets will only sleep in their cage and never on my lap!~ Too hyper all the time!!!

Usually there hyper active if you dont let them out to much. I keep my ferets in cage when im not around and night time. The cage is in my bedroom :)
My friends ferrets live cage free. Actually ferets should live free like dogs and cats.

Yeah :) I got another one recently, poor guy was skinny, now hes put on lots of weight, healthy and clean, a happy pet :)
