Love john williamson, ive been going to his shows for about 15 years now, first one I went to was when I lived in the Northern Territory, took my young kids also and they have been big fans ever since, have met him on 7 occasions and am about to go to my 8th concert of his on July 15th, he is playing with the West Aussie Symphony Orchestra, should be another great show done by John, a true aussie legend
I live in a NSW country town pop 300 the same town as my username,The country is a special place she can be very beautifull and breathtaking but she can also be very cruel,I have seen some magical things that city people will never see,Originally from Newcastle I can appreciate both city living and country living,And country living wins everytime if I see 5 people a week that is a busy week,If I see more than 2 cars down my dusty old street a week its considered Pitt street. My land is my life.
Every word JW writes is perfect and this song is no exception, it captures the heartbreak and beauty of drought in a rural community without flaw. But now that the drought's over I reckon it's time for him to take a trip back to Quamby and give us a song about floods!
The real power in Australia isnt the government it is the board rooms of transnational corporations that pay little or no tax and can pull the strings to get even more from the public. Thanks honeymunchies for commenting.
I bet this is on Opra's I pod with high rotation.Should be on some of our polititians ipods as well. If you dont love something then its so easy to sell it off and cut it down.dig it up and send it overseas.
@TheGrunge619 Well said. The fabric of Australia is changing so much, so fast. We're losing what it means to be Australian. We lack, as realistically any government in the world lacks, a set of politicians with a nation's interests at heart rather than their own.
@1zakbrudda I don't know what it is but I always cry when I listen to this song too. there is just something about it. I think it just stirs up pure pride within for this country.
@SaveTheSnakes yup and there sure as hell is a lot to be proud of if your australian. the amount of blood and sweat that went into the foundations of this country makes you wanna just burst with pride
Thankyou for reminding me just what a great country that we are lucky enough to be part of, I hiked this great country of ours as a young man, your vid and this great track, brings it all back. I'm a very proud Aussie!!
aaahhhh.....always love listening to this & several others sung by John Williamson, with his 'pure' accent (mine too!). The true essence of our wide brown wonderful land, thank you for having it here for me to listen to, have 'survived' the last drought intact, saved as many animals (native & domestic) as I could & JW's songs calm me down & reassure me our "spirit" lives & always will !
the picture at 2.26 is my friends sheep station out at Winton Outback QLD, thats taken out at Eskdale, no doubt about it i'd never forget that =) Her Aunt even painted it.. Ah Correct me if im wrong but im highly sure of it!!
that was nice, wasn't the black and white photo a woman from the american dust bowl in the 1930's? this williamson fellow is a lot like america's john denver. i'm not normally a fan of folk, more into your ac/dc and silver chair, but this is pretty cool.
one of the scenes in these clips, is from Kalgoorlie.. brings back memories from there when i was working a week on the nickel smelter out there.. i went for some beers at that pub
I have traveled this contry all-over and the memories of past plesures, pain and lost friendship's.... the memories salvation and self reliance wilst camping on an isolated pice of the beloved murry or the noise a hundred dingoes can make on a big moon in the NT outback with nothing more than a backpack and swag.......... This clip put tears in my eyes!
im a country lad through and through. born and raised in the country but now livin in a concrete jungle of the city. i find there are to many people in the city who don't understand or admire the country folk for wat they have done and still are doing for this country i.e. australia used to ride on the sheeps back.. it breaks my heart to find people who have never been outside the city limits to wonder at what a country we have
the more of these Drongos who never leave the city limits mate, the better, who wants to see 150 Kia Sorrentos that " didnt rate a tow" lying along our tracks. Thank God for small mercies. Cheers
@casperlamp It's so true. If you think about it, it is the farmers that keep this country alive. if it were not for agriculture and farming in australia it would not be worth living here. I'm from the Blue Mountains but most of my family history is out the back of Dubbo. I still have family out there who farm. I love going out to visit as often as I can to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I can relate to John's other song "a bushman can't survive on city lights"
Hi all!! What a tops song, fair bloody dinkum this is music mate. The world could do with a lil bitta ol' ozzie style. Laid back, chilling out, cool - but never cold!. Come have a visit and OZ will change ya outlook on life. Next song to listen to is... "and the band played Waltzing Matilda" Dinner is a BBQ and the next drink is VB. You can all stay at my place when you visit.. Just bring a few T bones, snags & slabs. See you when you get here.
I was lucky enough to spend several months in Australia. I loved the country and its people and still do. I hope you all stay yourselves and don't give in to American or European cultural hegemony. A beautiful land with beautiful people.
Search for "Raining on the Rock" here also by John Williamson. You'll like that, and it is one I favourited.
Last time I was in the USA was 2004-5, enlisted in the United States Army. My infantry training company 1st Seargent in Fort Jackson, S.C. was of some Native American nation by heritage. I never found the propriety to ask which.
@xxsatchitanandaxx dont worry most of us aussies wouldnt go the american way for reasons most people can understand ,,as for european ways ,,,it wont happen ,,WE WANT OUR OWN FLAG..
i just wish australia would stray australia instead of bending to everyone elses "religions" serioursly when my local shopping centre cant have a santa coz it "offends peoples" its just stupid i love my country and i just wish everyone would stand up for it and keep it the way it is just listen to true blue john williamson sung about this change long before it happened and now its to late :( love my country love his songs hate losing my country hate seeing it get taken over :(
Well done i come from not far where John grew up and trust me the drought is hurting real bad, but looking at this clip makes you love Australia and the Mallee no matter what it throws at you
I love this song. I spent some time in Australia and fell in love with the place and people. I hope you keep being independent and stay true to yourselves. You are not yankee sidekicks or second class pommes.

We have been given the privilege of living in this country,by birth or by migration.
With that comes opportunity and responsibility.Among the nations of the world Australia was birthed for a Divine purpose.
At our peril{and it would be shame if we do not take up the challenge} we we Australians ignore by default that heritage we owe this world.
May our leaders respond to that challenge to steer our ship for the benefit of mankind.
May men + womenarise 2 run with integrity where none exists.
