@JimTLonW6 apparently the locals knew, but since there were posters saying that "careless talk cost lives", it wasn't really talked about even though they knew about it. Bit of a threat and quite ironic, considering the current UK government's aim and policy is to be a govevrnment after peace and satisfaction of her civilians. But yet, there was a war going on.
Very interesting; one question, if thousands of people were working there didn't people in the area notice this? I know they managed to keep Bletchley Park secret; but this didn't fool a train driver who told a party of Wrens who'd been sent there that 'The Wrens all get out at Bletchley'!
nice to watch but not news to me, my Grandfather Frank Ives, used to work on the electrical systems and one of my aunts worked in the factory on the machines. The nearby unfinished tube tunnels were also pressed into service as makeshift factories.
@wogify Why call him a fool? I think anyone that takes an interest in his area, environment and in history is no fool. Anyone that wants to enhance their knowledge is no fool. Fools are those that don't know much and don't care to increase their knowledge. By the way, you didn't know what his badge said, it says WITH KNOWLEDGE WE SERVE. QED
Yes, you can... After the war the tunnels were put to their intended use and became part of the eastern extension of the Central Line. This extension was planned and part built before the war but not finished till afterwards. If you look at the photos in the clip you can see the cast iron tunnel lining which is common to all tube tunnels of that time. Standing on the platform at Redbridge you are at one of the access points. Other disused/unfinished tube tunnels were taken over for war work too.
Harry Harris tells a porky pie at the start, he tries to make it seem like the Luftwaffa were out to intentionally cause civilian casaulties and industry was an after thought.
That is projection of guilt my friendly limey friends.
Your profile told me that you were living in the UK.
And you seem to be the definition of irony. "You sound very stupid" yet you spelt saudi Arabia wrong, and have to say "u r" instead of "You are" it isn't a challenge, they're both simple 3 letter words. And "over debted"? the U.S is more in debt and Iceland is bankrupt.
And I ain't english, i'm scottish.
And Saudi Arabia is better than the UK? LMAO yeah your right, it is better if your a professional wife beater
And if my country is so shit then why do you live in it? oh right, I forgot...it has a benefit system so clowns like you can rant about how bad we are whilst you get £80 a week.
Unlike poor African countries we have a strong military, a strong economy, good living systems, DEMOCRACY, probably the reason why you came here in the 1st place and we have OPPORTUNITY.
This country maybe shitty but it bankrupted itself fighting the second world war so that pricks like you could make comments without the fear of a firing squad!!!
Rather baffled by all this supposed 'secrecy'. I lived in Redbridge for a few years; upon moving there did usual research of the area I live in and found out very soon about those tunnels being sensibly used to build aircraft components. Seemed common knowledge to me. And it's something that was done throughout the country, so no great surprise to anyone surely.
(Like your style rabbitspliff, hope the prick got the message!)
Top Secret ...then the first person he meets.. knows all about it!! (and there's twelve million people in London).
I think if I was about to buy one of those houses in Eastern Avenue, my first question would be..."What the fuck is that huge brick monstrosity ouside the house"
There are (abandoned) facilities like this all over Germany, England and the US, including one near where I live, and they have only come to light in the past few years, and people say that about all of them, and yet, they only get noticed after the site becomes declassified. Cool video, once you get past the accent...
