All this Anglo/Irish bickering is quite reprehensible! One should be both proud and grateful that the noble game of cricket has managed to partially civilize the unruly Celtic hordes.
@YouPubeist In his classic 19thC sea-faring 21 novel Aubrey-Maturin series,Patrick O'Brian has his protagonists bluff English Captain Jack Aubrey being a major cricket lover, who engages in many a friendly, playful spat with his friend the intellectual Irish Doctor Stephen Maturin who cannot stand the game, especially it's length.
And..urm.. I've got some Irish blood so 'civilize..unruly Celtic(sic) hordes.'? Pogue Mahone,ya patronising Brit gobshite before I turn yer napper into yer arse. ;-)
once saw mister hanlon supporting robbie williams at nec, had to leave after mr hanlon's show 'cos robbie would have been a real downer after such a class act.
Just pure genius, I love the retro trumpets or whatever they are, Neil Hannon is without question - as of yet - the greatest and most innovative songwriter to have come out of this wonderful island of ours.

Neil Hannon is absolutely brilliant, a genius! And I'm lucky enough to be living in Dublin so I see him hanging around town every now and again; a few months ago he played just outside HMV in Grafton Street with the Duckworth's singer, they were absolutely amazing! Besides I was born exactly the same day & year as himself, which adds to the fascination of the character:))
don't be offended if people don't share everything with everyone. believe me, you only want to know it because you don't understand it. it is a public space, but that doesn't mean it has to be reachable to everyone. hajrá petőfi rádió!

Don't be so pedantic! He was born in Derry (not londonderry). You should look at the way thing were then. He had no choice of what passport he could have, not like now. He's an Irish citizen, living in Ireland. Wolfe Tone was a prod, did not make him a West Brit.
Derry is the UK whether you like that or not my increasingly shrill West Brit friend.
Just like Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington who of course at times lived in Dublin (as he was born there) & many other places while serving our great Union.
Come now, I can sense your blood stirring with West Brit pride.
I'm sure an archive trawl will net me many more fine West Brits.
Oh thanks, I put special effort in just because I was writing to an old English fart! Any royal blood in you?
You see my name? Can you pronounce it? Your country could not destroy our language nor our culture. Which in most part I find ironic because your country is devoid of a culture, unless you class soccer on a Saturday and Sunday a culture. So, if you do claim that as a culture go to a match and have a nice pie my lumpish friend!
Go n-ithe an cat thú is go n-ithe an diabhal an cat.
Bruised? Sticks and stones mo chara! If one likes Shinty, does it make him Scottish. If you find that ironic, is there much irony in the amount of English in Ireland? .I am beginning to think that perhaps your a man with a chip on his shoulder. Did you not get enough hugs?
No everytime I see Ray Houghton score that goal against England makes me proud!
I see you agree on the fact your devoid of a culture.
Orthography.....who really cares? It just goes to prove that you as a Brit would rather say something that looks nice written down, but really what you say has no substance.
I've had enough of your British 'pride'. I know a lot of British people and there sound, so I know that your just a Brit who thinks your high and mighty. You sir, really are just an arsehole!

your a rather backward minded person! Both proud Irish men you should know!
macionractaigh 1 year ago
Am I now ...
1) It should be "you're a ..."
When correcting someone it helps to have correct orthography - you don't. In fact you're backward.
2)Hannon is a UK citizen & born prod so he's little choice in being West Brit.
3) Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington was the greatest of Britons & Irish too.
Your ( NOT you're) move my West Brit friend.

I sense you're feeling bruised by our jolly dialogue. You're quite sensitive which is of course a most beautiful thing.
The upshot is that 2 of your countrymen are besotted by something like cricket - I'm not surprised your sense of identity is so fragile.
I like your language - it's an enjoyable curio.
What I find ironic is that so many proud West Brits have come to live on the mainland - it must be an unconscious pining for Union.
Seeing Rooney in an England shirt surely makes you proud.

Me thinks you are rattled - your orthography's slipping again.
It's ironic you venerate Ray Houghton - a Brit of mixed lineage. An affirmation of our shared British communion.
Yes there have been many Brits in your land. None greater than Saint Patrick himself - a Brit who is part of your cultural DNA.
You're welcome.
It's become evident that the more you resist me the closer I get. It's a matter of timeless comity.
