Doug gilmour was charged with rape, and most overrated player in NHLhistory...or maybe 2nd,Wendy Clark might be first...come to think of it,Clark might have liked Gilmour to attack him in a similar manner
@carla531 17th overall in scoring, yeah I'm sure he's fucking underrated. Also, it was statutory rape, which means the underager was willing. Go back to the kitchen to fucking dish washer.
Thanks Dougie for those great memories. Those were the days - man do I ever miss the character and the drive of the 93 and 94 Leafs. Gilmour, Clark, Cujo, Zezel, and of course Burns... you gotta love it! As a teenager, I'll never forget it.
@MrJackMeOffski He's coaching Kingston in the ohl i believe, We offered him a coaching job but he left for the ohl because kingston was doing so bad,
Not to mention that his final contract offer from the leafs before he left had a clause that he would become a coach when it expired, but he wanted to keep playing afterwards so he turned it down then left, and with it all of our chances at a cup till cujo came along anyway but the leafs did something similar to him too,
Doug Gilmour: Drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the seventh round of the 1982 draft. Gilmour was implicated in a nasty civil suit involving sexual misconduct and a thirteen-year-old babysitter. He was quickly traded away to the Calgary Flames in 1988.
He was more or less traded to take the public heat off St. Louis and improve the team's public image. A shameful hurdle that Gilmour never get over. He apparently paid the childs family $1 million in an out of court settlement.
@CrazyHorseRunningBat this is the truth ... canadians are so lame that they look away from anything bad that one of their beloved hockey players does wrong!
@jmans i don't usually comment on stupid petty ass comments like that but man are you for real? we're not 'looking away' from shit, give us some proof that dougie did something wrong, the girl's parents probly found a good opportunity to make some money. even if that bullshit was true, the bigger crime would be gretzky's high stick ON DOUGIE before he scored that game 7 winner. BTW, gretzky is canadian you fuck.
@CrazyHorseRunningBat ANYWAYS....he was one hell of a hockey player....now stfup bannok ass bingo bitch...don't you have a welfare check to go pick up?
SEXUAL CHARGES. A civil lawsuit claims that star St. Louis Blues center Doug Gilmour had sexual intercourse repeatedly with a 14-year-old girl and seeks at least $1 million from the NHL player, his wife and the team. It also alleges that the Blues, negotiated payments to the girl and her family, were secretly attempting to trade Gilmour, 25. The suit charges that Gilmour's wife, Robyne; Blues President Jack Quinn, and the Blues ''knew or should have known'' about the sexual abuse.
I remember that wrap around goal on Curtis Joseph like it was yesterday - I know exactly where I was and what I was doing when Gilmour lit up the red lamp. Gilmour rocks! I'm glad that I was able to follow a player such as him while growing up.
@MAXIMONT gretzky tripped him on a breakaway that very well could've been the series winner in the 93 series with L.A., Fraser didn't call it and late in the 3rd the golden boy gretzky assists on the game winning goal.
@RightMeow69 It was a no call on a high stick and Gretzky scored on the following faceoff. obviously you are a poor leafs fan if you do not relive the '93 playoffs in painstaking detail every spring wondering what it could have been like if rules applied to everyone (and kerry fraser wasn't terrible).
@Towers45 yeah climb off your pedestal before you judge me buddy i was 3 years old at the time, but hey i'm sure your much more of a fan than i am because your older and have mouth on you.
@Towers45 all i know is gretzky cost em trip to the finals my bad sorry i don't like to cling to depressing what if's, if you're actually reliving this moment every year you are one sad fan.
Gilmore and Clark were the best.. why break that up for some lazy swedish meatball that eventually had to be lead by Gary Roberts or would have never had won anything....
I've lived in T.O my whole life. Loved hockey and hated the leafs my whole life. But Doug Gilmour is, without question one of the greatest, most complete players the game has ever seen!! In his prime, only Gretzky was a better playmaker, a very select few brought his heart and determination and nobody gained the blueline better. In that double O.T winner vs STL he lost 11 pounds!!
Gilmour was a true legend that I was priveleged to watch.
I never liked Hockey, there were no Sharks in SJ when I was in the bay area. I played NHL 92 for Genesis and around that time the leafs were good, so I became a fan -- I remember Wendell Clark hit this goal from like center ice and I was like WTF, then Gilmour had the puck behind the net and they were like Gilmour is the master behind the net the goalie is screwed. I ran outside and started screaming when they won. I never did that for any other sport. Hockey rox nuff said ditto for Gilmour
yea it was...before Bettman started fucking things up and men could be men on the ice. Wish time would stand still after 1995. Devils won the Cup, 26 teams still and political correctness hadn't polluted society yet.
And to think, we got him back for only a single shift only to lose him for good, due to a fluke knee injury... Leafs fans got robbed. But at least we have the original memories. DOUGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love it when in the playoffs a huge goal is scored and you can see the camera go up cause the cameraman is celebrating, like in this video around the 2:20 area
If Kabby was going to get the C, he would have by now. In an odd turn of fate we will make the playoffs, and Kessle will get the C to rally the troops. Remember, you heard it fist here on youtube.
i think we'll make the playoffs too but not with kessel as C. sorry maybe i'm being harsh but i feel the C needs to be EARNED. he's only been here a couple of months and i don't think he deserves the C based on that. past leaf leaders played here for a couple of years before getting the C and it should be the same case with kessel. i don't even like beauchemin or komisarek getting an A.
I'm far from a Leaf fan, no offense to the team but I consider Gilmour like a hero on how he contributed to Toronto's team and at the end of his career in Montreal.
5:18 "Go, Doug, GO!" so epic...he's one of the reasons I still root for the leafs, hoping that our next captain will be as much a stand up guy as Doug Gilmour
I agree... i think that shot of the fans sums things up. A couple years before Doug, people would come to the gardens with paper bags on their heads... after Dougie, fans were excited about everything... we beleived we had the best player, we believed we had a chance at the cup. It's great he'll always be remembered in Toronto, but he doesn't get enough credit for his role in Calgary's 89 Cup, or how good he was in the 87 Canada Cup
@paranoidandroid3232 I think out of the prospects we have he's the closest to a Gilmour as far as style of play, but I don't think he'll ever be as loved in Toronto as a Gilmour. Not many players can lift the team as much as he did. The closest I’ve seen to it in Toronto was phaneuf last season.
That you for posting this amazing video....Dougie - My favorite Toronto Hockey Player All Time...Toronto Maple leaf needs another true hockey player like him who plays with his heart and soul, who also always gives his 120% to the game....and Sundin who.....
There are gritty hockey players with integrity and heart, who show it all, play hard, have the will, emotion and are what makes Canada a hockey nation and GOD BLESS them! You Doug are one whom all should celebrate for bringing it home for us... love the video! Thank YOU for this, for you Doug for being gracious, humble, true to your heart, family and fans! May others learn from your example, remember those who gave to the game, took it for the team and the love of the sport without selfishness!
Awesome video! Hopefully, if they show a video package tomorrow at the ACC for his number honouring, it'll look exactly like this one. Great tribute to a great hockey player. Thanks for sharing!
