"The former manufacturing plant and headquarters financed by a controversial government loan to the now bankrupt Solyndra LLC is up for sale and could attract high-tech companies looking for new U.S. location." --Reuters, Feb. 23, 2012
Well, that was a fun little charade, now, wasn't it?
coal, its external cost is 4.5 cents per KWH, however when taken in account of its hidden costs, the health effects of burning coal, the real cost is 8 cents KWH
coal contributes to 120 billion$ in health damages alone 2005
In US Solar Power ranges from 0.7 cent KWH Virginia to as high as 24 KWH Hawaii
You could argue that solar is much more expencive, and is why it only provides 1-2% of our energy needs, but as technology improves, this is about to change drasticly.
@SereneiBE Believe what you want. Contact me again in about 3 years. The Chevy Volt will be history. Only the .02% of people using solar energy will still be using solar energy. The earth will still be the same climate with minimal fluctuations as in the past 2000 years..and "green" socialist agenda's will be a thing of the past. Everyone is on to the global socialist agenda..the MARKET will determine the direction of a FREE country and green will again be a color and not a socialist agenda
@SereneiBE $120 Billion in health damages alone in 2005. PROVE IT! Just saying it or repeating it doesn't make it fact. Its loony socialism talking....not science or facts. Pure Socialist PROPAGANDA.....and you young lady are all over it. Hook, line and sinker. Some day when you grow up....and you realize that NOTHING you said back when.....was fact. Pure Propaganda. Nothing else. I challenge you to show me some FACTS proving your $120 Billion in health damages. Not just PROPAGANDA
@BorakOBummer Sure, from coal fireing plants? allow me to give you more infomation on the health effects of coal. according to "lungusa.org" coal fire plants emit all kinds of harmful pollution into our atmosphere. they release arsenic, heavy metals, lead, mercury, doxins, and many other chemicals known to cause cancers.400 coal fire plants around the US release 386k TONS of these toxic pollutants.
amoung other things, pollution from these coal plants cause acid rain.
@BorakOBummer This isn't propaganda, there is a pretty wide agreement that coal fireplants are extremely bad for our envirorment and our health.
CNN - "soot from coal fire plants kill an estimated 13,000 Americans prematurely, and are responsible for 100,000,000,000 $ in healthcare costs. " My 120 billion might be slightly off, but it still costs BILLIONS.
July 29 2011.
don't believe me? thats fine. But we have to get off coal, even nuclear is a better replacement.
@SereneiBE Prove It! Just because you say it.....or because the LIBERAL Media says it....doesn't make it true. PROVE IT! Where do you get your facts? Coal produces over 45% of American Energy. Whats your alternative? Wind and Solar produce about 2%. So the other 43%? Where is that to come from? Hmmmm?
Until you come up with the answer....the rest is just THEORY. WIND AND SOLAR AREN'T ENOUGH!!!!!!!! Where's the PROOF they are bad for the environment. Show me 1 study! Show me!
"wheres the proof that they are bad for the envirornment."
you are detached from reality.
You must be the only one on the planet who doesn't know coal is bad for the envirorment.
If you truelly care about your own education, google "coal effects on health" you will find plenty and plenty of studies which point out coal is VERY bad for the envirorment and health.
although in some areas wind solar can be very cheep, the "average" pricing is still above coal and oil.
But renewable energy has been getting cheeper and cheeper and more affordable.
Again ive sent you a video, from there if you truelly want to become smart so you don't have to resort to insults and political games, I STRONGLY suggest you reseach both sides of the argument.
@SereneiBE Sure Cheaper and More affordable. Neither wind or Solar produce enough energy to keep the lights on the Las Vegas Strip. It could be FREE and still wouldn't be enough power to make a dint in the amount of energy required to power the US. You don't need to strongly suggest I research both sides of the arguement to "become smarter". I am an engineer that worked at Palo Verde Nuclear power plant for 24 years. I've done a little research. Hopefully I'll be as smart as you someday.

@BorakOBummer Murcury, LEAD dioxin, ash all that BAD stuff the burning coal releases has been PROVEN to be extremely toxic.
If you don't believe me disprove me. Eat a chunk of lead, eat murcury, eat all the bad stuff that the studies have found in coal and prove me wrong. see what happens.
@curingaging00 Sure, thats a really good arguement. Eat a chunk of lead or mercury?Oh I could disprove you all day long. Better things to do. Have you heard how bad carrots are? Yeah almost 100% of people who ate carrots prior to 1900 are dead. People that have eaten carrots continue to die every day.People over 80 that have eaten carrots are dying much more rapidly than younger people.Yet "Big Grocery"continue to sell carrots and the Media is silent! @SereneiBE YES! BINGO! Yes Germany is a socialist community. YET to this day Germany has FAILED to embrace a Market Driven system where NEEDS dictate the demand rather than GOVERNMENT dictating. @BorakOBummer Wind power too holds alot more potential then today.

USA has many windy places which can use such wind turbines. type in "New wind turbine design could triple energy production."
@SereneiBE Sure.....Wind.? WHATEVER!!!!!! Sure windmills could triple energy production of a NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!! REALLY?????????? Do you REALLY expect me to believe a windmill would create more power than and NUCLEAR POWER PLANT?????? GROW UP YOUNG LADY!!!
PLEASE! I'm not a rocket scientist but to tell me a pole with a propellerer in the wind creates as much power as a NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. HOW STUPID ARE YOU???????? You're drinking the KOOLAID!!!!
@SereneiBE You ever been to a nuclear facility? It makes your hair stand on end about a mile away! @BorakOBummer Those new prototype for wind turbines the japaneese have been working on will be cheeper then the power generated by the fukishima power plant.
according to MMN.com EVEN here in USA, in Wyoming, TWE Carbon Valley Project, wind pricing is already lower then coal and without any government subsidizing. $80MWH VS the $90MWH coal.

when solar was first introduced to the public, only the rich wealthy and powerful could afford them, nowadays, I don't have to go very far to see a middleclass neighborhood with many solar pannels.
The reason why they arn't very compettitive in the gobal market is cause they still lack substancially in cost compared to other forms of energy, but who is to say with additional reseach they aswell as other forms of energy can't eventually become competitive against oil.
@SereneiBE Wrong! when solar was first introduced to the public. ANYONE could afford it. The Government paid for it. Another form of CONTROL. Of course back then the big scare was "The new ice age" Same loons promoting the scare as those who promote global warming.....er...now just climate change (have to give them climate change). Geothermal with more reseach would work.

another example KWH PV and Solar Therman costed between 55-90 cents per KWH by 2000s it was between 7-25 cents per KWH. These in year 2000 dollars.
@BorakOBummer The future population of 9.5 billion according to UN estimates combined with both china and india both having substancially higher standard of living and taking in account of many other countries which will eventually climb out of poverty, this "coal and oil" won't last very long, in 2050 the energy consumption by then could double current energy consumption. Thats the point in reseaching alternatives
Nuclear, Geothermal, Solar, Wind Tidal and more will provide the replacement.
