  • jo and susan were really young

  • Fab :)

  • u heared the dub versions??? clowns.

  • u heared the dub versions\\\\\\\\\\\\\\//

  • 1:30 Clapping fail but at least she has a sense of humour about it!

  • Those girls are fascinating aren't they. Is it me or is it hot? Or they are twice my @?"?*?! age?!

  • Classic...

  • imagine if we had a tv show that allowed pop artists to play album tracks these days! Just wouldn't happen now.

Don't mention Jools Holland, that show is just for muso snobs.

Reckon music and the way it was distributed was far far better back then, nothing other than farty little twats and r&b is shown on the mainstream telly anymore. polished arty trained acts with no history, here today forgotten tommorrow.

RIP music culture, there will be none of this nostalgia in 20 years.

  • @stinkycricket SPOT ON MY FRIEND !!!!!! nicely put :o)

  • I like this groups music, but I kinda hate how some men would wear earrings. Some men in Spandau Ballets group do it too. What are they trying to do...reach out to their feminine side in public?

  • look at that hair fab.I wish the Iphones plebs would go away.

  • A few minimal notes. A synth and a bass line. That's it. Genius.

  • Los 70's hehe

  • @Tinofj 1982

  • I love how knackered Joanne looks in the end. She's like, "Thank God this is over!" However, Susan is flaunting her good looks off! :)

  • @senorverde09 It can't be easy to swing that fat arse around for 3:31!

  • @christo792 You sir, have made my day.

  • @senorverde09 although Joanne is still my fave, from the 80's, now it would have to be Susan.

  • funny..still love it!

  • DARE ... 30 years old 30/10/2011... still an absolute CLASSIC album

  • @placebohead68 Yes, an excellent album with this track, Seconds, Open Your Heart, I Am The Law being other standout tracks for me

  • The girls made the band much more attractive!! = ]

  • Whoa, heels!

  • The hottest man alive .

  • just great!!

  • This was when the group were at their peak. At the time, they were at number 1 in the singles chart with Don't You Want Me, in one of the most fiercely competitive Christmas charts of all time, as they saw off Cliff Richard (Daddy's Home), Abba(One Of Us) and Adam and the Ants (Ant Rap). Don't You Want Me is one of the UK's biggest selling singles of all time........

......oh and Dare was also doing rather well by then!

  • RIP Martin Rushent.

  • is he wearing stiletto heels?? yikes!

  • 'Do Or Die' SHOULD have been a single along with 'The Things That Dreams Are Made Of'... Actually... what The Human League should ahve done for 'Dare' was to make a DARE Video compilation with video's and artistic direction for the whole album on VHS. Legendary! Do Or Die just KILLS me, ADORE!!!

  • Is it me or were things just better back then?

  • Phil @ 0:11 "Jo, are you gonna start playin' the fookin' keyboard line or not? IAN, get back to yer spot!"

  • Joanne please marry me ~~x~~

  • They look FANTASTIC.

  • Great even now 2011

  • They were so cool!

  • Joanne Catherall

  • Top Group Top Music beats the shi- out of all the x factor plastic shi- we have to listen to

  • joanne catherall stunning and them eyes wow!!!!!

  • I think the voice at the end is Peter Tomlinson. He was an ITV announcer and had been on Tiswas.

  • unique version of awesome track.. it's sync'd, so this mix of it exists somewhere.. even in mono, it's TEH HOOOOOLY GRAAIIILLLLLLL

  • Still love wanking to those sheer tights all these years later.

  • Joanne Catherall...PHWOAR! She was my first fixation to start stirring my pre-pubescent mind...

  • Cumbia Inglesa.

  • @AdrianPaoletti Jajajajaja gran comentario! Totalmente, cachaca inglesa!

  • The "Calypso" version!!! Eat this, KanYe.

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for the 6 thumbs up. Their new song called Night People is out at the end of November. You can do a search on You Tube to hear the live version.

  • damn girls are sexy lol hehe

  • Absolute gem of a performance.

The whole package is just awesome. Phil, the girls, the sound, lots and lots of energy and a really exciting performance.

  • fab shoes Phil...

  • @thedallas89 Cause he wears Makeup and dresses like that? It was a common thing to play with gender roles back in the day. And it still irritates people in 2010.

  • @thedallas89 This was the 80's you twat fuck off and read the history books

  • @davejohnslade can you not literate without foul language? children look at this!

  • @thedallas89 Tosser

  • Good for Phil, he looked so cool in his high heeled boots. Superb performance.

  • Is Phil wearing high heels :O...anyways Love his Hair!!!

  • they dress terrible, they have almost zero talent, the birds are proper ropey, they can't dance and can barely sing, so why is the whole package so fucking sexy brilliant?

  • Here is the human league doing something very few modern "musicians" can. Play live and sound better than the recorded version!

  • Excellent

  • Roland Jupiter 8...Classic!!!!

  • oh wow -- WARNING WARNING -- ~ 1:35 -- "white folks" trying to clap to the rhythm!!!

  • @ctyankeestxvi Are you suggesting white folk have no rhythm?

  • All I want for Christmas is a young Joanne and Susan at the same time!

  • the best human league upload ive seen to date, thanks so much, this is a gem.

  • Loveeeeee it!!!!!!

  • love the way the audience is facing away from the band. so cool.

  • anyone know who the keyboardist in the navy blue shirt is! never seen him before!

  • The girls are really cute!

  • i loved it then and still love it now.

  • The Human League - fabulosa

  • This is wonderful - I can't recall seeing the Human League ever looking this... well, "Human League". A real gem - thanks immensely for posting this

  • It's like they came to the television studio straight from shooting the photographs for

the cover of DARE. Maybe they had! .

  • Thats pure Human League!

  • When they picked up those hags they became a hit and miss band mostly miss

  • the song kinda sucked but it was nice to see the Moog and Jupiter 8 synthesizers

  • @Locust1313 and a Yamaha CS-5?

  • Man am I the only one that really just likes the song? No offense to the musicians or anything. lol This one is good along with Mirror Man and Get It Right This Time

  • 1992Gilda wot the fuck do u mean these guys were fuckin megga in the early 80s

  • The beściaki po wszystkie czasy...

  • reminds me of youtube.com/watch?v=uDEJpqljvIc

  • oh my look at the guy about 2min into the video playing the keyboard man does he look high as a kite geeze i know i work on pianos and organs for a living and back then they were high as a kite but still a nice video tnx for posting it early 80s is classic todays music just sounds like bull shit parden my mouth but it's the truth live on 80s people .

  • I always liked the way that Phil Oakey Looked. I found him to be Mysteriously Sexy.

  • It's a shame that they weren't more recognised in their decade, we'd kill for this kind of talent now

  • @1992Gilda More recongnised? They were one of the best selling Uk groups of the 80s!!!

  • @spikeman14 Not so in the U.S. my friend.

  • @zapkvr

Who cares about the US. USA in 1981/1982 had SHIT music compated to the UK!

  • @TheNouveauxdecadence I'll bet if you had asked them, the guys in the band would have LOVED to be big trhere. It is the biggedst record and msuic market in the world.

  • Anyone know who the guy in the blue shirt is playing the Yamaha synth at 2.12? All the other mk2 Human League personnel are there but this guy is not one of them! Phil and the girls are obvious, Ian Burden is playing bass guitar, Jo Callis is playing the main riff on the big Roland (nice hamming up to the camera at 1.58!) and Philip Adrian Wright, wearing a black Adam Ant T-shirt, can be seen playing a small synth 2.47. So who was this other member?!!!!!!

  • idk who it is but he sure makes me laugh everytime i watch this video .. i just think there were too many synth parts for them to do it live and accurate to the album so they grabbed someone.

  • @vVSDO2Cc It looks like Phil is singing live but I'm pretty sure none of them are playing the instruments live! Jo Callis' left hand doesn't seem to correspond with the correct parts, plus he's playing different parts later on! Ian Burden is playing bass when the track has synth bass lines. Adrian Wright was never a keyboard player (he was credited with projections and visuals on early albums). Plus the mysterious blue shirted member is playing polyphonic chords on a monophonic Yamaha synth!

  • Still they didn't quite catch it ....Did they?

  • my guess is they recorded the song live

a day or two before the show and then lip synced to the recording during the show

  • jo always looked better than sue, but eddie gray looked , and could play better than any sheffield do or die er. we are leeds, come and have a go if you think your hard enough.we will sail past you into the prem lge. stu says hello.

  • TejMulen? How old are you? Maybe 12 or something?

  • Yes, this is quite better...I wish I could find it on cd

  • @TejMulen Jo was the brunette one? right?

  • what means MILF???

  • @wickedwetcat MILF = Mum i'd like to Fuck and @Offthelinegt - I couldn't agree with you more Suzanne grew up into something pretty special (she has amazing "assets" already in this Vid :-)

  • @TejMulen uhhh .. she looks great man, are you into anorexic chicks or something?

  • I really don't understand...I thought this was a playback performance (because of the "insecure" start of the keyboardist at 0:22) but then I heard the album version and it's slightly different...I don't get it

  • This couldn´t be a live performance because as you can see the crowd is clapping - do you hear any claps in the music? No. Do you see any microphone near the two womans? No. but they sing auditable, right? So it -is- playback.

  • Yes but then, why recording a track where phil's voice fails around 1:25? The girls are recorded, but I'm not sure phil is

  • Phil is definately singing live and this does sound different to the recorded version.

  • the girls were fucking hot chicks

  • Joanne is uber sexy

  • this is so punk!

(judging from the rest of Dare! list)

  • god this HAS EVERYTHING!!!!

  • if only they knew back then... turning that sine wave down a few octaves would bring a huge dance bass sound. oh well, i'm sure they'll get it with their next album. ;D

  • The Human League just got signed to UK's recording label Wall of Sound! New material (songs, videos, album, etc.) expected sometime in 2010!!!!

  • Music is now dead..

  • This dark, minor-key song seems to hail back to the early days of the Human League, pre-girls.

Hahaha, music keyboards with circuits, real transistors, and a large cookie-sized IC which can handle literally KILOBYTES of information, hee hee...

  • phil's voice fail @ 1:27

but still, its a great song

  • So?

nowadays it would be autotuned out!

    emphasis on human!

  • He does struggle with that short mic!

  • Great Song !!

    Thanx for sharing !!!

This connection of "knowledge of song-writing" + also

"performing this sound, music+track" is very seldom to be seen today !!!

    Best Regards !!!

  • I've laways thought Do or Die was one of their greatest hits ever. The synths are cool, the beat is superb and bass riff is simple but effective.

  • Watch this and look at the pop crap we have at the moment

    at least these have tallent

  • @fishbone342

TOTALLY! it is SO depressing! ... This is THE BEST period of MUZIK ever!

  • @fishbone342 I don't agree. There is talent now, if not more, just different.

  • I want that Adam Ant T shirt!

  • I still don't know which of the two women is the most atractive ...

To my opinion, the blonde one has nicer legs...

But somehow I'm appealed by the brunette's held back charm...

    Those were the days ... mhmh ! ! !

    souvenirs of my puberty....

  • the instrumental version on their album League Unlimited Orchestra is the Max!

  • I listen to this track almost every day because the synths are so cool in the intro. Awesome track.

  • THANK YOU ever so much for posting this! They look and sound awesome, I almost passed out the first time I viewed this...I LOVE HUMAN LEAGUE!!!

  • send me the video, i would like to see this

  • how the hell do you get that xylaphone style synth @ 0:12! lol.... I want it now!

  • that chick iz a spunk

  • Cool!

  • great stuff...and the check out the rhythm of the girl sitting in the front at about 1:30...priceless!

  • Great theatre and awesome music. They set the standard in the 80's

  • Well, those "dogs" can bark up my tree anytime.

    Wanker.

  • I don't think this was a single. I remember smuggling a portable TV into my bedroom to secretly watch this when I was about 10 years old.

  • The line up at the time was:

    Phil Oakey

    Suzanne Sulley (the blonde one)

    Joanne Catherall (the brunette one)

    Adrian Wright

    Ian Burden

    Jo Callis

    Hope this helps

  • The brunette was called, um... cannot remember.

  • Joanne Catherall

  • Nick Rhodes?? Are u kidding? btw - i'll take both girls and phil can sing in front of my bed !!!!

  • I'll take the one on the left. The one on the right looks kinda like Nick Rhodes.

  • after i have had her:-)

  • adrien wright

  • awesome!!

  • it's susan sulley

  • Who's the blonde in HL? She's hott.

  • omg that pompous voice-over at the end is hilarious!

why have that on a pop show??

  • Well, I guess it was meant to be hilarious, considering it's a comedy show!

  • oh, okay, I missed the connection with Tiswas.

never saw OTT, I guess cos there was only one season and I probably wasn't in Britain when it was on.

    cheers

  • @davidmcn And if it didn't say so in the program guide, no one would have known.

  • @davidmcn

Yes it was a late night comedy show with guest stars and interviews with a few Music acts of the day...

Didn't last long but the format was ok...

I think if i remember rightly it was a grown up version of TISWAS a kids tv Gunge show from the early 80's

  • @davidmcn (O.T.T wasn't a pop show, trust me on this)

The voice over at the end was Stephen Fry. Honest.

  • that's cos she's female, and not underweight

  • Just loved watching this. The girls look like their havin a good time...

  • still could

  • Vraiment surper

  • perfect phil: perfect voice, perfect sight, perfect make up and of course perfect high heels

  • love those babes in Human League, meow meow!

  • All those clappers in the audience look funny. Guess that's what you do when you can't dance.

  • It's actually a Roland Jupiter 8. The most amazing synth of all time. Also a Yamaha cs-5, which was a staple for all other synth pop of this time.

  • ufffffffff que bueno es esto , los 80 siempre con el techno

  • this song applies to todats times also flolks!

  • WAAAAAY ahead of their time. Still relevant 27 years later!

  • I wonder which decade this is from

  • Love it!

    Just a few questions...

Who is the 7th member?? And also is Adrian wearing an Adam ant t-shirt? :)

  • @SynthWho My question also. Yes, that's Adrian Wright wearing the Adam Ant T-shirt. No idea who the mysterious blue shirted 7th member is though!

  • When I was 15 in '81 I drooled over the blonde...now I find the brunette more attractive....wtf!?

  • I understand you - I am the other way round - fancy the blond now (she's aged well), but looking at this i'm with joanne at that time - she's got the 80's quintessential look.

  • worry in 10 yrs when u find the guy attractive lol

  • ^ whs

  • "I'd like to leave so would you kindly look the other way

You tell me to be honest but I've nothing left to say

Just like your feet, My Goddess, my brain has turned to clay,

    An end to all resistance..."

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this album track from "DARE"! Was it ever released as a single?

  • The two synths at 2:07 one is a of the smaller monosynths Yamaha CS5, 10 or 15 not sure which one, the other thing is a Korg 770

  • Funny how nobody has noticed the 7th 'member' of the band pictured at 2:14 ? Also which synth kicks in at 2:07 ?

  • argh LOVE IT~!

  • Legs!

  • i like this one

  • Oh yeah baby, so cool!

  • he was with Joanne 10 years, but he had an affair with the blonde too?
