its not the first time I hear that the 6.4's have turbo problems. My mechaninc was telling me that the most bank for you buck power and reliability is a cummins motor. He also said the duramax is very respectable. For ford though, you should look for a 7.3 or re-do the turbos as a TRUE TWIN TURBO setup
@SuperJimrod, The Tow/Haul button is simply an Overdrive switch. Many people don't know to disengage the overdrive while hauling at freeway speeds, or thought that overdrive meant more power and as a result were killing trannys. So ford changed "overdrive off" to "Tow/Haul on" . That's all it is.
tow haul is not the same as over drive off tow haul holds in gears longer to build rpm and power and all overdrive does is keeps the torque converter locking from locking and going into overdrive gear i would know seeing as how i drive a dodge with both of the features
@tubesteakdynamo It also has a built in engine brake that knows and reacts to how much the truck is being pushed by the load/trailer and how hard you are pressing the brake. (At least on a 06 Ford.)
@tubesteakdynamo yea thats true but if you get 6 speed transmission you also have the engine braking thing and it turns the power to the motor up a little bit
@st3v3n98 lets face it... the 6.4's are not a great motor, and most people know that. However , most motors these days are throwaways anyway, they don't build them like they used to !
@cabbagepatchkid77 My dads friend blew two turbo hoses pulling a 13,000 up a mountain but other than that he hasnt had any troubles with his turbo, but it is a dog.. Gotta put the pedal to the metal to get it to go anywhere.
not a TRUE twin turbo... called sequential.. has one turbo that spins another to create LOTS of boost. But yeah theres 2 turbos in there, just working with each other instead of off of each bank of cylinders.

what, are you just astounded by how much power these things really have ? LOL stock this thing puts out more at the rear wheels than most tuned 7.3's without serious mods ! Gotta love it man ...
i dont like the 6.4l their junk ...no offense , i wish ford could've stuck to the 7.3 , classic powerstroke
