  • Dell's technical support is the worst I have ever heard. It is actually so bad that people don't believe you when you tell them about it; literally you have to experience it firsthand. I will never buy another product from you ever again in my life. Nice business plan btw. Alienate and piss off all your customers. That'll be a plan for the future, won't it?

  • It is called the Dell shuffle... I do computer tech support for a company that sells several brands of computers. I am constantly contacting different manufactures to help my customer get warranty support. Dell support shuffles you from agent to agent so the call-center company can charge Dell more time on the phone supporting the Dell customers. The "different" departments are all on the same floor in the same department.

  • 1st problem: You dealt with DELL.

    2nd problem: You called DELL, be abused by them.

    3rd probelm: when they refused to cancel the incorrect order and ship the desired monitor, that was your que. Should have stopped doing business with them. Should have told Dell, if they ship the incorrect item you will be refusing the package & payment. And if they did ship the incorrect item, simply refuse the package. Remember, if they dont deliver and get your signature they can not charge you for anything.

  • Dell shipped me a Studio XPS 7100 completely broken and on several callbacks told me that there was absolutely nothing that they could do. It took me over a week of non-stop phone calls to finally reach someone who could help.

  • I had to phone Dell twice, because of a laptop I got as a christmas present from my mother was faulty. I only had it about 6 months before it started breaking. There customer service is ridulous...NEVER AGAIN.. :O it still angers me to this day..

My Mac and My hp will outlast any dell.

  • @mariyuso yep i own a dell an acer an HP a gateway and a Mac. the Mac is far better than all of them combined. but if i had to pick an oem i would pick HP. the high end workstation hp's to be specific. the ones you don't see on hp's main website. and as for monitors. apple makes great monitors but they are to expensive. the best monitors for your money are not from oem's but companies like AOC or veiwsonic. companies that make nothing but displays and screens.

  • That's why I NEVER buy from Dell directly, too frustrating dealing with their useless customer service department. I only ever buy Dell monitors and usually go through a reputable reseller like Amazon who actually know how to treat customers.

I bought my Dell laptop in February and in April my heatsink fan, the mother baud and something else went out and they are not compensating me,no matter how much I continue to fight with them..I've filed a complaint against them with the BBB. DELL SUCKS!!!!!!

  • The reason those reps kept asking if you wanted to keep the monitor is because they were sales retention reps, basically their job is to stop you from returning stuff.

    this is a growing trend recently, and yes it sucks.

    I have dealt with musiciansfriend, newegg, tigerdirect, asus, xfx, seagate (tech was a little rude till i put him in his place) and many others I have NEVER gone through the hassle that you went through returning something.

  • I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop and you can't even replace the motherboard. I also have a Inspiron 1440 laptop, and the touchpad gets hot just through regular usage and also I've had tons of problems with the Ethernet port and Wi-Fi card not to mention Dell computers run Windows like shit compared to custom-built PCs or other OEM computers. WTF are you talking about Jon?!!? Dell's products and their customer service are horrible!

  • Used to work for Dell at there TMC facility about 95% of the people who bulid there computers are from staffing services and straight from the street mostly recent high school grads once there 9 month contract is ended they bring in new people and poorly train them to build there computers one trainer for every 20 people who begin learning how to bulid there PCs never buy a Dell PC

  • I build me own pc's now but years ago(15) I bought a Dell Dimension. It was a fine PC the downside being a non standard motherboard so upgrading to any great extent was a no no. I then bought a Laptop 2 years ago and a Dell Monitor(U2311) this year. Anytime I needed to ring Customer Support I found them to be very capable and was never kept waiting for long. Things in Dell may have changed as it was 12 - 14 years ago I needed to ring Cust Support but my Dell experience was a good one.

  • Sadly when it comes to Dell customer service, you really have to put up a fight to get what you want. Yes, it's pretty sad. I went through a nightmare with them a couple of years back with a laptop that had well known issues they werent acknowledging and like you said, I never want to have to go through that again.

  • I bought an extended service contract for my Dell computer. I can prove this. When I call them for tech support they say there is no record of my purchase. I have been hung up on numerous times and once one of their techs went into my computer and uninstalled a bunch of stuff. My computer was so messed up that I couldn't use it. I finally did a factory image restore myself to fix it. I will never own another Dell computer.

  • Jon, I absolutely agree with you I was going to buy a Dell 10 Mini v and decided against it. Went with an HP Mini 110 instead, however I later found out that HP Mini 110's aren't as easy to hackintosh :-P but i'll leave Windows 7 on it then, that's fine, just because I don't want to deal with Dell, ever again.

  • SERIOUSLY AVOID DELL They sell you their junk then within a year your warranty runs out, they charge you $230/year just to talk to you and all of their customer service are in INDIA and poorly trained, bad accent and you can't even download your pre-installed software because their 1000 Indian departments keep losing your account information. I was on the phone for 3 days and paid $175 for a problem that could've taken 10 minutes to solve.

    I have owned 2 Dells, my sister owns one, my parents own one, 2 of my old roomates owned them, my girlfriend owns one, and multiple friends own them. Out of the 15 or so people who i know who have had Dells, I (alone), have had to replace bad hardware on 9 of them. 8 of them were hard drive issues where the people lost all of their data (within 6 mos of purchase), 1 issue with a mobo, and 1 issue with the power source. All had to be replaced and customer service was NO help.

    My laptop was fixed in a total of two weeks.

    I've owned a Toshiba laptop before the laptop I currently have. It ran fantastic and I agree their customer service is great. However, I still paid $1000 more than I did for my current laptop (and they are comparable in specs, according to the year they were made). A Toshiba with the specs I have would cost around $1500-$2000.

    I know, what I meant was that the specs of the new laptop are much better than the old, but are equivalent in terms of their years released. Like saying Windows 7 now cost as much as Windows XP did when it was released.

    They are always SO kind to me, and they don't have hard to understand accents.

    I am never transfered and they replace my products that I have broken without any second thoughts.

    I spoke with one today, and I was on the phone for like 45 muinutes but that was my fault, I was trying to work my phone on a freaking pc lol. The man on the phone was extremely patient with me.

What do they expect you to do if the monitor has a crack in the screen, like some of the new iMacs had? I'm sure they would have sorted that out, but they don't seem to care too much about how much they mess you around on the phones though.

  • HP has good customer service. I had a question about one of my old computers. (that they didn't even sell anymore and that didn't have warranty anymore. ) I had to go through the normal computerized phone line, but you have to do that everywhere now, and I got an individual on the line who helped me with my problem even though the computer had no warranty on it and they had no obligation to help me. Dell is bad overall, their products are defective, stop working, their drivers suck.

  • In my country we have 14-days of fee-free return-rights by law! Returning stuff can still be a hazzle.. but at least we don't have to worry about restocking fee. Its really just a matter of sending it back with the label "Return" and let them figure out the rest. Being in contact with customer service can be the real measure of a company's character.. it appears Dell is shit!

  • I called them about my order status and I was in the right department right away and I got the problem fixed quickly. For small stuff, they're fine. I can imagine, though, if something seriously goes wrong, you're in trouble.

  • I had a PC from Dell that had just about everything go bad on it. They had me replace everything myself over the phone. Everything from the video card to the motherboard. In the end they had to replace the PC all together. And then that PC had problems as well. The next time I needed to get a new PC I built it myself. Spending all that time talking to Dell tech support taught me all I needed to know.

  • @jac70j I agree,my laptops hard drive messed up I got a new one in 2 days,but the monitor had messed up also so 2 days later Dells tech calls me at work to set up a timeto fix,I asked him to come to my job to fix it,2hours later I had a new screen AND keyboard,no add.charge.PLUS I got a callback the next day to make sure everythings peachy.Thanks Dell,Great customer service.

  • I agree with you. Dell makes good products, but customer service sucks ass. Emailing them is such a hassle for me! My warranty has expired and dont get customer service. While other companies, i can contact them. EVEN though my warranty is expired. I think Dell needs to have a organized customer service. Instead of transferring from one person to another then to another. And allow people with expired warranty to email Dell. Overall, Dell products are good. Customer service sucks ass

  • I bought a PC from Dell about 2 years ago, first 3 days there was a problem, i called dell and no problem they fixed it, with very sincere service (he sounded Caucasian)...yea a few months ago, my pc began to act all funny, i called Dell and they wanted to know info, i gave them info, and they said my warranty had passed, So at this point i thought they would ask me to renew it or something, but they just hang up.....Dell is about to crash on the market if they dont stop this madness =)

  • @origamiartist2 Yeah, look at the Asus forums, plenty of disgruntled customers on there. IME EVGA is up there with the best or may even be the best, excellent customer support with a lifetime gaurentee on most products once you register the item.

    At it has been working great for 2 years now, with out a single blue screen of death, or any hardware failure.

  • yes they have terrible service i had a laptop witch for some reason would not charge, after waiting 15 minutes going for person to person a woman said i had to buy a new battery and extend my warranty for 50 dollars gay i sold the laptop bought an acer aspire 5532 329 on sale bestbuy very fast an good fuck dell.

  • i do think the computers are pretty cool... but i think there could be an improvement. i have my mac for a few months now and nothing has happened to it yet. no viruses, freezes, or any problems. but with my old dell it froze real quick and it just had a bunch of problems. this is why im a mac not a pc

  • You can't just assume that all computers freezes, because your old dell did. I've had my Sony Vaio for a year now, and I've never had any problems at all. I haven't had one single virus.

  • Dell makes Amazing computers, I have an Inspiron 530 myself, but I have to admit that their service is one of the worst ever. First, I bought my dell on Dec 26, 2008, and the computer arrives almost one hole month later ( Jan, 22 2009 ). My expierenc'e with samsung for example have been outstanding, I ordered a printer and it came in 4 days only. So that proves that I agree with you

  • I totally agree with you. Dell makes great products. I ordered a Dell Studio XPS 8000 Desktop and it is an amazing computer. I had to contact dell support because when i ordered my computer it was suppose to come with wireless installation and that was missing. Dell was just wasting my time transferring me to all these departments and not giving me a solution to my problem.

  • you think thats bad? I have to get two hardware pieces replaced on my defective dell. it took two hours simply to CONVINCE them it wasn't a Windows problem. Now they have to maildrop parts, and send someone out to fix my less than a year old dell. I miss my own computer, this is a family members.

  • I'm A Mac. The only non-Apple item on my desk is my monitor, and it isn't even made by dell. it's an HP and i hate it because it is only 15in. However, Dell's products in general suck. Sorry about the experience.
