There was no hope for the dance floor when this song played. It always seemed to take us away right when evening was at it's height of frenzy; party music/mutant disco to the max!!!
Such a great song. Glad to see some Material here. Thought it was lost to the ages. If you like the theme, try KMFDM Strut (tho I like the disco balls mix better).
Bill Laswell - Michael Beinhorn - Nona Hendrix: Still top of the list after all these years, edgi, raw - you don´t find these kind of music anymore nowadays
Hi, didn't Nona record I Don't Want To Lose Your Love, original by The Emotions? Was it with Material? I'm sure I had a 12" of it and can not find it listed anywhere in her bio. Tx!
I agree this was a darker type of dance song with Nona providing angry sounding, driving vocals. The DCA Club in Philly played this in 81 to a jammed dance floor. This was truly a unique song and is still a classic. I like the reverse-sounding notes during the instrumental-only parts.
I recall going to a club when I first became legal age and the club was playing this song--I instantly loved the dark quality of it and when I heard that voice I was like "that sounds just like Nona Hendryx!" I had no idea she'd put out a new single. I love the weird sounds in it and I love how Nona sounds.
