Great Stuff!! Learned a lot of Great Old Tunes from this!! Lost today. I feel sorry for kids who've never seen this sort of thing. Sat Morns were a Great Time!!
I remember seeing these on TV as a kid and not quite getting them. I didn't realize they were meant to be shown in a theater, for adults. Imagine being in a theater full of people singing along and laughing and having a great time. But that was a time when going to the movies was an event; you dressed up and were on your best behavior at all times. We could use more of that attitude today...
@younghippo I'd say some point after they went colored. Then I think people began associating Disney cartoons with kids (as opposed to Betty Boop and Felix The Cat). Could also have stemmed from the lack of physics in Looney Tunes cartoons. It'd always been that way, but adults realized gravity existed in the real -- aka "adult" -- world.
Anime partly brought cartoons back to adults, but I think Don Bluth played a part. I respect him the most out of all the Western animators.
@younghippo Ever seen Watership Down or Plague Dogs? Their both here, in full, on Youtube. My grandma was talking about this kind of thing yesterday. She mentioned that her grandmother, that's my great great grandma, I suppose, used to laugh the loudest when The Three Stooges came on before movies. Wish I coulda met her, she used to play the piano for the silent movies too. Coolest job ever.
Like OMG me and my whole grade have to sing this in chourse right now its pain but some one in my class told me to look da song up on here so i did and i could not stop loling but go job any way :) :) :)
This was made back when going to the movies was really a treat. Not only did you see the movie, but you got a lot of short films before it, like a newsreel, a cartoon, and something like this. Nowadays you have previews, reminders to turn off your cell phones, be quiet during the movie, about refreshments in the lobby, and now they do ads for TV shows in the theater. I wish they'd get rid of the ads, and bring back the cartoon shorts and sing-alongs. Would make going to the movies more fun.
@matrix86 One thing you have to remember is that a lot of the cartoons made during the time this was made (1930s and 1940s) were geared more towards an adult audience. Adults were more likely to see a movie in the theater than a kid would, hence most of these being shown along with the newsreels and other similar items. People complain about the violence in the classic cartoons, but they fail to realize these were more adult-oriented, whereas most cartoons today are kid-oriented.
It wasn't really a kid's cartoon, they showed these in cinemas before movies to get the audience geared up. They weren't really made for children to watch.
Sid Raymond was the voice of the turtle who said follow the bouncing ball. He was also the voice of Baby Huey as well as Katnip from The Herman and Katnip cartoons.
Wow, that was the most nightmarish thing I've ever seen, can you imagine being really drunk and watching that? It'd be like a bad LSD trip or something ;-)
This cartoon would never be allowed in today's ridiculously politically correct crap of a society.
