@creamgravy1 You have to activate this feature under File -> User Preferences -> Addons -> Rigging: Rigify (4th to last option) check the box and save the preferences (and maybe do a restart of Blender) ...happy rigging!
How to you change/edit an envelopes size/range at one end of the bone only? I cant stop my rig from deforming the rib area under the arms when i animate arms flapping! side ribs get squished into the body! Advice would be great please ;)
@Jjannaway3D Sure, I just took an actual screen shot. It shows the error message too, after I clicked the generate button. How can I send you the file?
In my experience if you curve the fingers in the modelling process... just like you put a bit of bend in the elbows and Knees... then when you rigg the fingers you will automatically place the finger bones in a curved default setting and that will solve some of the problems above...
I don't have a full character, I only have hands, like in a FPS game and so I used the rigify, but when I have placed the bones where they should be I hit GENERATE and something happens but I don't see those orange lines that you have and I can't move my model like you do after generating those bones on your model.
hey nice tutorial. but i keep getting this error. it says "bone heat weighting failed: failed to find solution for one or more bones" what does this mean.
@prince94845 sorry, when you try to open the model? You have to import it because it's a .obj file. You can do that with File > Import > Wavefront(.obj)
@jesuslessed yes, select any of the bones on the legs in the properties panel (N) you'll find an ik/fk slider, slide it all the way to 1 and the ik legs should start working.
@phillippi2 sounds like you haven't skinned the model to the armature or are in edit mode for the armature. I skin the mesh to the armature using automatic weights at about 10:30
im pissed because i tried to do rigify for a sora model and its not wanting to stick to the character for some reason can anyone help with this problem.
@princekiry2 you can model your own characters to your specifications if you want. There are websites like turbosquid where you can download other models, or even just hit up google. You can import .obj and .3ds easily into blender.
Little help, please, kind sir. I followed what you did in your tutorial, but when I try to pose it, one bone will affect another bone. For example, if I try to move the shoulder, the entire arms moves and then part of the leg on that side of the body starts to get affected by it. Pretty much, none of the limbs work properly and the entire body gets contorted. Only the fingers seem to work the best, yet they are still far from what I intend. Thanks in advance.
@KearoNasanam Hard to say exactly what your issue may be. Might be that you accidentally parented some bones together or even set ik on all of the bones. Try again with a fresh file without hitting anything else. You can send your file to me if you want me to have a quick look at it if you want, jjannaway@gmail.com Good luck!
@Jjannaway3D i am amazed by how quickly you responded. I'll be sure to send the file to you. I'm not sure if this would contribute to the problem, but I have the arms down instead of outward like how the model in the video is. Then again, that wouldn't explain as to how the head gets messed up.
@MisterBojanglezzz hard to say, what version of blender are you using? Works fine for me in 2.57b. Make sure you have rigify enabled in user preferences like I show you at the start of the video.
@Kakutachi sounds like you don't have rigify enabled, I show you how to do that right at the start. You might have to save your file and close and open it again to get the checkbox to work
@Opeystat there are two controls in the same spot for the feet. If you right click twice you should select the ik control. Make sure you turn the ik constraint on in the n panel.
@Opeystat I think that's because when setting up the rig I put the ankle where the ankle is on the model. If you want the control on the floor try putting the ankle on the floor. I prefer the controls a little high, makes it harder to loose the control through whilst animating. Good luck!
@gunhugger16 it is still in beta, the latest official release is 2.57 release candidate 3. 2.5 is mostly feature complete, it is a little unstable but it is still very usable. 2.6 will be the first 'complete' release, though as I'm sure you know blender will probably never be 'complete' and new stuff will constantly be developed.
@neverhoodyn yes, once you hit generate the rig is always created standing on the center of the world. It is also good practice because in a production you'll be linking to lots of rigs and it helps massively to always know exactly where the character is going to appear once you link it into the file.
Hey Jaimie. thanks for making this! The only thing that would make this easier to follow along is posting the link to the CG Society page with Proton's model pack. Awesome tutorial bud. Cheers.

@antisonicteam you should probably rotate your model to face the opposite direction before rigging it.

Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong, or do you need more information?
